Figures Loui Eriksson has a chance to score on a 2-on-1 and his stick manages to break, lol. I can’t believe he managed to make a slight difference in the Canucks 4-3 win tonight. Maybe he might win the Conn Smythe for the Canucks after all, lol.

But what’s up with the schedule on Thursday for the Canucks and Wild game - 11:30 A.M., what the hell!? Everybody’s going to be at work over here, no one’s going to be able to watch it. Heck, even the Islanders and Panthers game is on early too, that's dumb.

*sigh* Oh well. I guess it's time to break out the PVR and hope no one spoils anything at work!
Bread man? More like Bereft Man! Rangers let me down big time.

Good job, Florida. You didn’t get swept. Now you just need to win two more.

Playoff Update:

In a bit of a surprising turn of events tonight, the Calgary Flames manage to overcome two straight opening round playoff loses by defeating the Winnipeg Jets in 4 Games. It turns out that losing Patrick Laine and Mark Scheifele to injury was just too much for the Jets to overcome.

Amazingly, no one managed to pick up any points this time around, as everybody decided to go against the Flames in their picks and thought that the series wouldn’t go to four games, so nothing changes in the overall standings.

However, due to this result, no one can now qualify for the Brackcellent award, as everybody now has at least one blemish on their record.

I’m happy that the Canucks won (and an early game to boot! They usually never win an early afternoon game, especially a playoff one, so I was a bit surprised at the result after watching the game after work on my PVR), but I do feel kind of sad that the Jets couldn’t manage to at least make it to a deciding Game 5. But, you know what, with what happened to Laine and Scheifele, and with all of the turnaround on defence over the offseason and with the Dustin Byfuglien fiasco, the Jets shouldn’t hold their heads down too much; they played the best that they possibly could and did quite well regarding the circumstances. So kudos, guys.

Tomorrow’s going to be insane, though: six games with six teams that have a chance to clinch and move on the next round (Islanders, Coyotes, Canadiens, Blackhawks, Blue Jackets and Canucks), so it’s going to be pretty busy after the night is done. I’ll try to update the thread whenever I can if some of these series were to end tomorrow. I personally think most of them will probably go to a deciding Game 5 (including the Canucks one), but you just never know.

I’m honestly surprised that they got swept and didn’t manage to at least win one game. But, oh well.
Clearly I should've taken kory's advice and just bet on the Flames again, oh well!
I wonder if I'll get a point this year

Playoff Update:

The New York Islanders, for the second time in four years, manage to take care of the Florida Panthers in 4 Games and move on to the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Kentona and UPRC picked up 4 Points each while JDogg1717 and Kory_Toombs picked up 2 Points each for betting it on the Isles to make it through.

UPRC is now currently in the lead with 6!

Damn it, Florida! I believed in you this year and you let me down! This is why I can never have nice things.

I mean, for fudge sake - they beat you four years ago and this is how you do in the rematch!? You have the better (if not more expensive) goalie than they do. C-Come on...!

Well you did. And you managed to pick up four, actually, thanks to the Islanders.

- And it looks like it’s back to the basement for me! :)

Playoff Update:

The Arizona Coyotes managed to put away the Nashville Predators in overtime for good, as they manage to move on to the next round in 4 Games.

Kory_Toombs is the only one who predicted that the Coyotes would prevail against the Predators, as he earns himself 2 Points, while Addit, Kentona and UPRC all earn themselves a Single Point for predicting that the series would go to 4.

Also today, the Montreal Canadiens, thanks in large part to Carey Price, managed to stun the hockey world as the 12th seed in the East as they managed to knock out the Pittsburgh Penguins in 4 Games. (I bet Urinatingtree is crying in his beer as we speak.)

Kory_Toombs and UPRC are the only true believers that the Canadiens would get it done and each earn themselves 2 Points.

And with that, UPRC’s lead in the standings has increased while Kory_Toombs, last year’s champion, is catching up!

I can’t believe those crazy b*stards did it. They knocked off the Penguins. Heck, even the Coyotes managed to do something.

(Also, me right now:)

Playoff Update:

In another surprising turn of events tonight, the host Edmonton Oilers were defeated by the wily ol’ veterans of playoff past in the Chicago Blackhawks in 4 Games, as Oilers fans everywhere start to ponder, "What the hell just happened?"

Nobody picked the Blackhawks to win the series, but Kory_Toombs managed to score himself a Single Point for predicting that the series would at least go four games.

Also tonight, the Vancouver Canucks managed to get revenge on the Minnesota Wild from their last playoff meeting over seventeen years ago as they down them in 4 Games and win their first playoff series in over nine long years.

Addit, JDogg1717, Kentona and UPRC all receive 2 Points each for predicting that the Canucks would be victorious. But it’s Kory_Toombs who is the biggest winner of the bunch today, as he scores himself a whopping 8 Points for predicting that the Canucks would win in four; and because the Canucks are his Stanley Cup Pick - those points are doubled!

Kory Toombs is now 4 points up on UPRC for the overall lead. Everyone else has some major catching up to do.

FINALLY! After seventeen years of that horrible disappointment of blowing a 3-1 series lead back in 2003, we finally get our revenge against those jerks from Minnesota and send them to the golf course early. Somewhere up there, Todd Bertuzzi is smiling.

Even though I’m in a bigger hole in the standings than I wish I was, tonight is a night of celebration. F**k the Wild!

(Oh, and I'm...sorry for your loss, Kentona. I'm just as shocked as you are about the Oilers.)

Being on top feels familiar...
Last year, I was on top after the first round and never looked back.
Luckily for the rest of you, the first round has just as many games as the qualifying round, so there's a chance to catch up.

I’m basically going to have to ride the wave with Dallas and hope to god that they manage to wake up in time and do MUCH better than I had in the Qualifying Round in order to have a chance to catch either of you for the lead at this point. I still believe that I can do it, but, maaannn, is it going to be a challenge.

Yeeaahh, but you almost lost it because of Shinan and those stupid Bruins. Luckily, you managed to hold on and the rest was history (…thank god).
last time Opposite-kentona would have challenged for the crown. Based on how my picks are doing this year, that seems to be true again. Dammit.

$##!&^*% Oilers! I've never seen them play so sloppy this year! Perfect time, of course. Can't wait for them to win the draft lottery. Again. (at least they can come out on top of something)

Playoff Update:

Despite an heroic comeback for the ages on Friday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs couldn’t get it done when it ultimately mattered and was defeated by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 5 Games for their second straight playoff victory in franchise history.

JDogg1717 was the only one who thought that the Blue Jackets would get it done against the Leafs and picks up 2 Points for his efforts. UPRC managed to pick up a crucial Single Point for predicting that the series would go the distance.

At the end of the Qualifying Round, last year’s champion, Kory_Toombs, is now 3 points ahead of former champion, UPRC, for the overall lead entering the next round.

LOL TORONTO!

You have one of the greatest comebacks in playoff history only for the next game to completely crap the bed and blow it. Unbelievable…

- They BETTER not win the draft lottery again! What would that be then, 5 first round picks in the last 10 years??? Come on, give it to somebody else that actually deserves it for a change, like the Rangers, Wild or the Jets, considering that they were going to draft first overall under the old format before this whole crazy thing happened. And I don't want Toronto to win it either.

Also, we now know who’s playing who in the next round that starts on Tuesday:

Western Conference:
(1) Vegas Golden Knights V.S. (12) Chicago Blackhawks
(2) Colorado Avalanche V.S. (11) Arizona Coyotes
(3) Dallas Stars V.S. (8) Calgary Flames
(4) St. Louis Blues V.S. (7) Vancouver Canucks

Eastern Conference:
(1) Philadelphia Flyers V.S. (12) Montreal Canadiens
(2) Tampa Bay Lightning V.S. (9) Columbus Blue Jackets
(3) Washington Capitals V.S. (7) New York Islanders
(4) Boston Bruins V.S. (6) Carolina Hurricanes

So I’ll need everyone’s 1st Round picks in by Friday, August 14th @ 7:30 P.M. PST, 10:30 P.M. EST before the Stars and Flames Game 3 starts, capiche?

I’ll probably do my picks sometime by tomorrow. I gotta do MUUUCCCHHH better than I did in the Qualifying Round to have any chance in this thing. I don't wanna finish in the basement again, it smells funny!!!
