NHL 2021 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS / POOL PREDICTION THREAD ~ KENTONA'S REDEMPTION ~
Posts
Playoff Update:
Yanni Gourde’s short-handed goal in the second period was the only goal scored tonight as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeat the New York Islanders in Game 7 and move on to defend their Stanley Cup Championship against the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals starting on Monday!
The only ones who managed to get any points tonight are both Addit and Kory_Toombs as they both manage to pick up 2 Points each for predicting that the Lightning would win the series. They also both managed to successfully predict that the Lightning would win the series in seven, too, so they both manage to pick up 4 Points on the night!
And for the second straight year - congratulations, Addit! You somehow managed to pull the exact same BS from last year and earn yourself the Connor McDavid Award! (Even though you don’t really like Connor McDavid...) You will receive the reward at the end of the duration of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Also, sadly, with the Lightning's victory, UPRC now joins Kory_Toombs in the basement as he’s now officially eliminated from contention as well... (But they both played great!)
As we reach the final homestretch, there’s still plenty of left to decide here, as Kentona still has a chance to share the first place prize with Addit if he can happen to score a perfect in the final series while Addit cannot pick up a single point in the process, so the redemption still has a chance to come to fruition!
Also, it’s anybody’s guess who’s going to take home the Ashamed Fan Award for last place, as UPRC, Kory_Toombs - and even Kentona - all still equally have a chance to win it.
- It’s going to be interesting!
You will receive your reward at the end of the duration of the Stanley Cup Finals!
Thank you for playing!
- The Bracket, Leaderboard and Thread have now all been updated!
- THIS IS IT, LUIGI!!!
This is it, as I’ll need everyone’s picks in for the Stanley Cup Finals - were tears will be shed and dreams will be shattered – by Friday, July 2nd @ 5:00 P.M. P.S.T., 8:00 P.M. E.S.T. before the start of the Tampa Bay / Montreal Game 3.
Stanley Cup Finals:
(2) Tampa Bay Lightning V.S. (4) Montreal Canadiens

I can’t believe that I won again - this is insane...! And the exact same BS too from last year with me having to pull a miracle straight out of my ass in order to win! (...And somebody else screwing up along the way.)
It was a close game, though, despite the fact that the Lightning carried most of the play. I honestly thought that the Islanders were at least going to make it into overtime and make things interesting, but - sadly, they could not...! (Oh well.)
Welp… Now that Tampa Bay got the job done for me I can finally rest easily and go with…!
Canadiens Over Lightning In 6
- DO IT FOR THE REST OF CANADA AND THE REST OF YOUR FALLEN COMRADES, MONTREAL! COMPLETE THE MAGICAL STORYBOOK ENDING THAT THE FLAMES, OILERS, SENATORS AND CANUCKS COULD NOT DO BEFORE YOU! - SWEEP THE LEG...!!!
Which means…Kentona, you’ll have to go with the Lightning in this one, either in 4, 5 or 7 to have any chance of sharing that sweet, sweet Connor McDavid Award with me. Otherwise, the redemption process has failed and you should be ASHAMED of yourself! AAASSHAAAAMMMMMEEEDDDD!!!
Don't worry, Bettman's working the phones and pulling some strings even as we speak! WE SHALL GET OUR MAGICAL STORYBOOK ENDING!!!
(...But for who, though?)

I'm rooting for Montreal and as We all know NHL is rigged and loves a great story.
Don't worry, Bettman's working the phones and pulling some strings even as we speak! WE SHALL GET OUR MAGICAL STORYBOOK ENDING!!!
(...But for who, though?)

I'm the last person to realize that the only 4 people to participate this year are all from Canada. 1993 was the last year a NHL team from home won it, it's about time to bring it back.

…Is it sacrilege to say that I was voting for the Kings to win it over the Canadiens back in 1993? (I was a dumb kid back then.)
But, yeah, hopefully this is the year that a Canadian team FINALLY manages to win it for once! I’m so tired of them being so awfully close, like the Flames, Oilers and Canucks were (twice...), only for them to collapse or get screwed over by the officiating in the end. Besides, the Lightning WON it last year... They don’t need another cup in order to, “grow the game more in America,” so to speak.

I'm picking Lightning over Canadiens in 5, so that means that Montreal will win, UPRC.
- YES! Oh thank god.
With Kentona's latest seal of approval - they can't lose! It's practically in the bag.
Damn it. Montreal played much better tonight than they did in Game 1, but that last second goal in the second period, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopping everything, seemed to be the Habs’ ultimate undoing tonight. Shame, though, because I thought that they deserved a much better fate.
Also – don’t look now – but the redemption of Kentona is starting to gain some traction again! All he needs is Tampa Bay to win in 5 Games (which is looking pretty good right now) and he’s got himself a championship! (Well...a share of a championship, that is.)
I swear, though, if Kentona manages to blunder his way into tying for first place overall in the end, after having such a massive lead and almost completely blowing it - I’m going to laugh my ass off.

Uhhhh… At least they scored more than 1 goal this time around…? (…Hoo-ray...???)
I guess the North Division really WAS all that terrible in the first place (...and Vegas, lol).
And UPRC...! You can’t throw in the towel just yet! ...And you’re not supposed to play that song until the fat lady “officially” sings!
But, maaaannnn...it's going to be a rather LOONNNNG mountain for Montreal to climb now.

Also, why couldn’t they get more than 3500 fans in the building tonight, but, yet, they can have over tens of thousands of fans gather outside of the arena with no problem?
Pfft. So dumb.
Pfft. So dumb.
So today could be the last day of the Stanley Cup Playoffs should the Tampa Bay Lighting manage to pull off the sweep. I kinda hope not, but with the way the Lightning have been playing, thus far - this might be it.
If it IS it for Montreal, then both Kory and UPRC would then tie for last place and would both receive the Ashamed Fan Award, while Kentona would miss out on tying for first place by TWO messily points, so he would get nothing (lol).
- We'll see how it GOES...!!!
Edit: And no rioting if you happen to lose tonight Montreal! That's "our" thing!

Holy shit - they did it!!! Montreal manages to live for, at least, one more day (…barely).
And, wait a minute - do you know what this means, now? The redemption of Kentona might ACTUALLY become a reality, should Tampa Bay win their next game.
My god… It’s actually happening! The prophecy is coming to fruition!!!
(Lol.)

Playoff Update:
The Montreal Canadiens magical storybook run has officially come to an end, as the Tampa Bay Lightning manage to win their second straight Stanley Cup (their third in franchise history) as they win it on home ice in front a packed house in 5 Games. Lighting goaltender, Andrei Vasilevskiy, manages to pick up the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP: the first goaltender to win the award since Jonathon Quick in 2012 for the Los Angeles Kings!
Kentona was the only one who managed to pick the Lightning in this one and picks himself up 2 Points - which then doubles to 4 Points total because he also got the correct number of games right as well. Kory_Toombs also picks up A Single Point for predicting that the series would go five.
And with that - we have one winner and one loser to announce:
First off, Congratulations, UPRC! Thanks to Kory_Toombs’ single point at the end, you managed to finish in dead last and earned yourself the Ashamed Fan Award! Which is odd, because, from this person's perspective - you have nothing to be ashamed OF, including your favorite team - as it was all just a matter of numbers...
And at long last - the redemption of Kentona has FINALLY come to fruition as it took him until the final hour for him to finally break the curse and win himself a share of the Connor McDavid Award! (- Bout time!)
Both you and Addit will have your names engraved on this year’s championship banner, as, for the first time ever in RMN Stanley Cup Playoff Pool / Prediction History - we have more than one winner this year! So both of you will share the honor!
And thus concludes the NHL 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs!
See you next year!

Kentona FINALLY did it. He’s FINALLY a champion...! (Sort of.)
- THE REDEMPTION OF KENTONA IS, FINALLY, COMPLETE!

Oh yeah, definitely for sure. It’s a shame that we didn’t get more of a larger turnout this year, and even last year was pretty miserable as well.
I think what I’m gonna try to do next year is try to make an announcement, or try to promote it on our Discord Channel and see if anybody there (including newcomers) would be willing to come back to the forums in order participate for next year’s pool, since a lot of forums users that used to be here have moved on to that. I would also like to make an announcement on our social media page about it too, and what not, but I don’t use Twitter, Facebook – or whatever the hell the kids are using nowadays. I mean, that could always change in the future if I somehow manage to get into the social media game like everybody else has, but, from where it stands right now - that’s probably not going to happen. (But you never know, though.)
- We’ll see how it goes for next year. I’m hoping that now that everything is going back to normal with the regular divisions again, and having the playoffs actually start on time properly instead of late into the summer, that maybe more people will participate next year when things FINALLY go back to normal again.
