STRANGER OF PARADISE FINAL FANTASY ORIGIN

What are your thoughts on the new Final Fantasy game, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin?

I really don't like the generic looking protagonist. I heard that he might be so dull looking because its meant to be an Isekai but I don't care. For one I don't think I want an FF Isekai for two that's not a good enough excuse for this guy's design or the game look in general.

If a game is called Final Fantasy Origins I want that to look like a 3D version of a Yoshitaka Amano painting. Doesn't that sound lovely? Why can't they do that?

Anyway gameplay wise its hard to say I didn't see much gameplay. It might be fun.

Feels more like an edgy "reimagining" movie of the original Final Fantasy right now. I have to agree through, your Amano art idea for a FFO would've been amazing.

I guess we'll see in time though. I am worried about Dragon Quest 12 taking this apparently darker turn because of this though. It's one thing to constantly muck around with FF, but DQ of all series?

At the least, I do think the pixel-art remakes of FF1~6 could be cool and more up my alley.
I anticipate it to be all similar to the horrible ios remake of 6 they put on steam.

As for FFO, I expect them to completely ruin what they had going with FF1 and the Dissidia series of stories. I wouldn't be surprised if I feel obligated to make changes to Final Fantasy: Sky Warriors as a result (if I even decide to acknowledge this FFO as something canon, that is.)

It really seems like the people at Square Enix haven't a damn clue what they're doing. The only game that looks like it's got good management is FFXIV.
Watching the trailer, The game is made by Team Ninja.
The characters' running and weapon attack animations do remind me of the ones in the Ninja Gaiden games that I love... but the cool ninja moves and brutality are missing here.

The setting and enemies look interesting. The playable characters, not at all.
I would rather choose a party of 3 or 4 among the 6 original classes and play through the game as them even if they were silent.

In any case, it looks more like a reboot than a remake of the original, so the FF1/Dissidia story can still be considered canon.
the rumors of the game being "faithful" to the amano art-style sounded really cool

then i saw the game
It might be a decent hack 'n slash, but I think making this a remake of Final Fantasy 1 was a horrible idea.

Fans of the classic games want stuff like this:

Not some guy with a gruff voice talking about how much he hates Chaos for three minutes.

After seeing the trailer, I'm mostly "meh" about it. It's probably too early to really judge what to expect from it, though.

Frankly, I'd rather hear news of FF7R's release to PC, or maybe Episode 2. Unless the plan is to not release on PC until all the episodes are out? I dunno. Square-Enix could go either way, and probably still make boatloads of cash.

I wonder how this game could affect FF16's development, which is likely it's own five-to-ten-year plan? Or whatever.
yet another action game. Not interested. With the origins name i was expecting a lot more Real final fantasy roots deal. like a 16 bit/ octopath sort of game, not another ff15 all graphics 0 gameplay deal again.

I don't understand the need to remake every turn-based game as a 3D action-adventure. I get that improvements to technology have enable developers to take a property from 30-40 years ago and present it the way the creator had originally envisioned (this was what Final Fantasy IX was compared to Final Fantasy I back in the early 2000's) but completely changing the concept of the game and trying to present it as a new version of a classic is just getting so overdone these days.

Could have made a stand-alone spin-off rather than remaking Final Fantasy I. Did Square Enix really need another Final Fantasy game to begin with? XVI is in development, VII Remake is in ongoing development an release, what does yet another title add that people weren't already getting from the franchise?

I’m more confused about it more than anything (although it’s been a while since I’ve played the original Final Fantasy so my memory of it might be a little bit hazy); sooo…is this like an alternate timeline where the Warrior Of Light and his companions disappear when travelling forward in time and, while they’re gone, a bunch of other wannabe warriors basically see to it to eliminate Chaos only to end up failing in the end? Is that what’s going on???

I mean…it’s interesting, out of all the possible Final Fantasy games to make a spin-off for they decided to choose the original out of all things. I never saw that one coming.

And I don’t mind the main protagonist and how he looks and sounds (kinda looks like a younger Luxord from Kingdom Hearts), it’s just the other two characters seem a little bit outta place, especially that one pink-haired guy that acts and sounds a little bit too much like Reno there, lol.

Yeah…I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase it on Day 1 or anything like that. And like Marrend, I need a little bit more information about it before I decide to buy or not - but I don’t think it looks THAT bad...just a strange choice to make a spin-off for.

Wait, is it NOT a spin-off but a remake instead???

If so, okay lol, then I'm even more confused.

Same, I'm surprised there wasn't any news, or even a small trailer, for Part 2 at all. I guess they're not ready yet.

Yeah, I think they might be spreading themselves out a little bit too thin with this; should be focusing all of their attention on getting the rest of Final Fantasy VII Remake done and finishing Final Fantasy XVI off. This should have been something that they should have announced down the pipeline once one or both of those games were fully completed.

I also feel bad for Nomura, he’s got SO many projects on his plate to do now.

This is going to sound cynical as all get out, but, I can't get this thought out of my head. The news I hear about Marvel Avengers is that it's certainly not doing as well as they thought. Maybe they are looking to use this game as a kind of cash-grab to make up for the shortfall?

*Edit: Then again, given that the Final Fantasy franchise has tended to be slow-burn entries that take five+ years to develop now-a-days, this thought can be probably taken with a grain of salt.

*Edit2: Also-also chaos can be a powerful ally.
Pretty sure this isn't like an actual remake or whatever, just as The 4 Heroes of Light isn't a direct replacement for FF1. More of a interpretation or re-imagining. Kinda like how Batman isn't always the same or will be someone's take. Kingdom Hearts does that with FF characters too. Really it seems like it takes place only in Garland's (spoilers: CHAOS) castle, so it has less to do (or even has less going on) with FF1.

This is really just on par with Other M where it's a weird collaboration with Team Ninja and I'm not even sure how this came about or what the point is, but it's probably not gonna pan out well and feels a bit dated and probably is going to be forgotten about. Least it's good for the memes.
Another thing that annoys me is this main guy Jack who already kinda annoys me will probably end up looking more like the Warrior of Light by the end of the game if I had to guess and I just don't like that sort of personality put on the Warrior of Light.

Also, I agree with Avee about using the old school job classes and also that this game is not necessarily cannon.

This was an interview with Nomura about the game. Should maybe clear a few things up, but I dunno.
