Hello!
I used to enjoy using RPG maker a long time ago.
Now there are more new versions, so I don't know much about them.
I would like to know, which engine would be the best for making a game with a turn-based strategy battle engine, using the grid system of the maps.
So having control with multiple units, and moving them around the map. Especially if there already is a great set of scripts and stuff to use as a foundation for this system.
Also it would be important for the engine to have space for many, many switches and variables, so I can add lots of choice-based story options aand events, and change the events based on decisions the player has already made in the story. Having multiple "karma" type systems involved in what kinds of dialogue the NPCs will use.
Thanks for any input!

A few things come to mind. One is to use VX Ace, and GubiD's Tactical Battle System. I never quite understood how to customize the AI with that system, but, the groundwork for a grid-based tactics game is there. I'm not sure if the later engines have a like system, but, seems possible.
Another thing to possibly look into is SRPG Studio, or maybe Sim RPG Maker 95?
There is a game under development, called The Lonely League, made with RPG Maker MV. As far as I know, the tactics systems there are being made from the ground up. Might want to check that out, and ask the dev how they hell the they did that.

You could also check Aurora Wing, a great turn based strategy game made with RPG Maker 2000.
