36 DAYS LEFT - THE COUNTDOWN TO BRAWL
Posts
Megaman would be pretty awesome, but since all he can do is absorb powers--like Kirby--and charge shots--like Samus--I can't see how his move set would work without rehashing others.
Magus, from Chrono Trigger, would be an absolutely insane secret character. Chrono's not too bad, but considering how many sword-wielding characters there are in the game, it's tough to imagine him being any different from, say, Link. Magus, on the other hand, has a scythe, Elemental Field spells, the all-powerful Black Matter spell and the ability to create black holes. Think of the possibilities. Create black hole, draw enemies in, slash away, hover into the sky, create another black hole, fall to the ground and shoot Dark Matter at enemies being drawn upwards. Wicked.
He also has a really great theme song.

Megaman has a slide, and dash, and that weird teleport beaming ability. Plus he (as X) has a headbutt, dash, mid-air dash, Dragon Punch (look it up!) and a Mega-crazy charge. I'm pretty sure they can create a unique moveset for Megaman.
And would he absorb other character's powers, or would they bring in select powers from the Megaman games? Like, Crash Bomb or Top Spin.
Besides, a crazy underwater Megaman stage would be a blast to play on.

Maybe he gains powers when he blows them out of the ring? Maybe he could switch between powers, somehow. That would make him a whole lot more versatile than Kirby.
A crazy underwater Megaman stage would be great, so long as they include a miniboss that pops up roughly halfway through the battle. A giant water snake, or something.
You could make an entire fighting game based solely on Megaman characters, really.

You forgot the Hadouken Fireball (or whatever it's called).

Megaman is EXACTLY the type of character they want to have in SSB!
He's a popular iconic character from the early days of the NES with a host of moves and abilities, a well-defined universe, and a cartoonish art style.

Unfortunately he's probably only going to make it as an assist trophy.
Another Assist trophy that I would like to see (even if it there's only an infinitesimal chance of it happening) would be Will from Illusion of Gaia. (He could come out as Will and use something like Psycho Dash or Slide, then change into Friedan and use his Dark Friar, then finally change into Shadow and finish with his Phoenix Attack then dissolve away.)

Why just as an assist trophy, though?
Andross spits wierd pixel things. The Devil turns the stage into a side-scrolling nightmare. Mr. Resetti talks a lot. Lyn uses her crazy slash attack from Fire Emblem, where she goes all invisible and hits the enemy around fifty times. What would Megaman do, jump over to the side of the screen and shoot a charge shot? Since Megaman doesn't really have a finishing move like these, it's probably more likely that he'd be a challenger.
Will from Illusion of Gaia would be a pretty good Assist Trophy. While they're at it, though, why don't they add in the protaganist of Terranigma? He can use fire rings, and can use multiple types of melee attacks. For his Final Smash he could unleash Yomi and turn all the characters into stone, or something.
I still stand by Magus as a secret character, whether or not brandonabley can make black holes come out of his butt.

I think Megaman as just a blaster would be boring- charge up shots like Samus, maybe a bit quicker and weaker, and the slide as down + B attack... But what WOULD be cool is if he took others' powers like Kirby, only he took them after defeating them. You could then use charge shots like Samus as well as others' powers. Maybe up + B could even be used to switch between the different gained powers, losing said powers when he dies once. Megaman would gain a very unique playstyle, as Megaman's strength would depend largely on the variety of characters in the fight, the player's ability to swap between characters' powers, etc. Megaman would potentially have the most flexibility and thus the most power, although the player would have to work harder than Kirby to gain the same powers, and in the mean time would have weaker powers... plus it would be difficult to do color swaps for multiple Megamans unless different characters were used, like a Protoman, Bass, and someone else.. I dunno. Hey, just, Megaman is cool.
ALSO, the news post for Tuesday indicates the crappy nature of the Smash Ball at last- matches become fugly capture-the-flag games as regular gameplay is diverted into beating up the ball or the person who grabbed it. They put in at the bottom that the Smash Ball can be turned off entirely, but nothing about just making it a quick pick-up. I like the idea of Pity Final Smashes, but not Smash Balls needing to be damaged. It's pretty dumb; I'd like to see all the Final Smashes, but I won't use them in regular matches :\.

You know how Samus (to a great extent) must stand in place to charge up her blaster? Well, what if Megaman was able to move while charging his? That would be pretty awesome, especially if he was able to charge his blaster up to different levels--normal, charge, super-charge, three bullets, bullets in all directions, etc.
It would also be nice if his absorbed abilities were different from Kirby's. Say, if Kirby just takes on the character's powers (i.e. getting as sword from Link, thunder abilities from Pikachu), Megaman takes on the abilities and incorperates them into his blaster. So instead of Megaman getting a sword, he gets a blaster that shoots laser swords that split, and instead of getting thunder abilities, he gets...thunder abilites. Or something.
Maybe his powers could be based on boss abilites from the series?
Both are pretty interesting ideas. Actually, if Mr. Y's idea was used, I think B+Down would be more suitable for the switch, not B+Up.
Also, I think the Smash Ball is a bad idea for final smashes altogether. I would much prefer it if, maybe, it would be distributed in some form without needing an item. The ball is a cool concept, but in game, I can't imagine it making much sense...
Well, on the downside, I don't know if Nintendo would be allowed to put in megaman, since he belongs to Capcom. Then again, Snake made it...
Here's hoping for Megaman!

Megaman should just have a long list of different gun options that you can switch to and from by pressing B-Down. I think I've said this before.
Megaman would be a super sweet Brawl character.
So would Banjo Kazooie.

Ha. I didn't even think about Banjo-Kazooie. That would be rad.
