WHAT VIDEOGAMES ARE YOU PLAYING RIGHT NOW?
Posts
I've been playing through the second act of Dragon Age 2. I stopped playing the game for over a month due to time issues (work, school, etc.) but have picked it up again recently.

you could also conclude that it satirizes both parties as fucking stupid (which they are) which is what i thought was the obvious conclusion
i was wrong apparently
No you're right both sides get burnt pretty bad. The whole thing is done from a left wing nut perspective.
Watch the Let's Plays if nothing else it really helps with the steep learning curve.
I am playing through DQIX and I just discovered that I was a victim of a sequencing problem. >:|
I was wondering where the fuck I had to go to save the Abbott of the Alltrades Abbey because I wanted to change classes. I had talked to everyone in the abbey, and then spoke to the chancellor (or whoever it is) at the abbey and he said "You should talk to everyone". Well, I had already done that. So I started wandering around on the field, came across a tower (no one mentioned a tower in the abbey), but couldn't open it. So then I found a village, killed a whale, then I saved a doll from a cave, killed a demon in a stone city, got a ship, and rescued a queen from her pet lizard (plus just general meandering in my ship). All the while i was wondering when the hell i was going to come across some clue as to where the abbott was.
After finding the magic key, I started revisiting old places looking for doors to unlock and talked to the chancellor again (hoping that something I did flipped some trigger and the abbott could be found now) - he said the same thing about talking to everyone. So I figured wtf I'll talk to everyone AGAIN. .... And stumbled on the sequence i was supposed to take.
So I climbed that tower and saved the abbott and found my "first" fygg. Yay.

I think that's where I'm currently at in DQIX. I looked everywhere and talked to everyone, and I didn't know what in the hell I was supposed to do. Then I put it down for a while, and pick it up every now and then. Though... I'm still not passed that one part! Ha ha. So who exactly do I have to talk to? D=
Just playing a weird indie game called Twitch Dash from Jonny Comics Inc. You have to use your burps to help defeat your enemies (though others can be killed off by just burping).

author=EphiamYou have to talk to the main man at the Abbey and he will tell you to "talk to people around here". After triggering that hidden switch, you THEN talk to the barmaid and the fighter in the basement (and maybe a few other people), and THEN after you leave the basement What's-her-face fairy will trigger a cutscene and THEN I think you have to talk to the main-man at the Abbey to learn the Bow action.

I think.
Something like that.
It is a rather retarded and convoluted sequence to something that is rather critical to the story. Very easy to sequence break!
I had that problem back when I played DQ9. I started what Kentona did and killed the big fish boss of the next town first then came back figuring I missed something. Instead of bashing my own face in more I just asked the Internet.
Then I saw what I had to do to unlock classes, realized I wasn't having much fun, and called it the day.

Yeah....I am getting to that point. Almost all of them depend heavily on luck (and tedious grinding).
I hate it when the developer makes it obvious that something is just pointless grinding and luck merely to pad out game length. Xenosaga 2 not only had brutal fights, but designed its "puzzles" in such a way that even if you instantly knew the solution, it required the maximum amount of running around possible within the room. at least the battles weren't random...
A lot of people seem to think playing brutal grindfests make them RPG badasses, but that's the worst logic I've ever heard.

I've found that people find fun in a game based on what the game clock says. It's some sort of desire to get the "best" bang for your buck by having an experience as entertaining as molasses crawling across the floor being soundly beated by granny armed with her walker. Instead of having a good time playing a game they ultimately want a long one.
I used to be one of them :(

I don't like short games though. It's not really a good time if its too short.

Imho depends on the genre, Flower for the PS3 or Portal 1/2 were extremely short games, but still one of the best games I played.
However in RPGs, I like length too, if the rpg was only let's say 5 hours, I wouldn't probably play it, cause how much content/story/epic battles/etc can you fit in such a short time? I like to build up my character/s, get a feel for the world... I'm sure there are exceptions though....
Anyways, on topic, I'm kinda stuck at what to play, I'm choosing between:
-Riviera: The Promised Land
-FF5 Advance
-Lufia 2
-Summon Night 1/2
I keep jumping back and forth, which is bad :D I wanna stick with one and finish it, but I'm having trouble deciding which to pick :D Summon Night is great, I will finish it once I finish one of the other three games (wanna start with turn-based, more traditional rpg)
Will probably pick Lufia 2, since I can't find anything that bugs me about that game, unlike the inventory system in Riviera, or ATB in FF5.
EDIT: GreatRedSpirit, love your avatar, cuteness overload :D
Summon Night is good, but the second is better if purely for the additional aesthetics. not everything is grey :P

Terraria, everyone needs to fucking get this. (Karsuman why aren't we playing together :()

L.A. Noire dear god oh yes
I want to get that game, but read in a review that it had a piss poor ending. Still looks pretty slick though.
