Umm... you have a project?

I posted something I was a team member on. It's no big deal and really shouldn't have made a big splash, but it had a reasonable amount of effort (resources etc) put into it and it was sad to see the virtue of the forum structure cause the game to get buried in a day or two.
The biggest issue we are trying to correct with RMNv3 is visibility.

People will be more apt to:
  • View a game page
  • Read a review
  • Make a blog post
  • Submit a screensho
  • etc...

...if they know that people will see it.

Two of our more popular threads - the Screenshot thread and the Game Making Drive thread - will become an official part of the site. We hope to create a Screenshot Repository, where all newly added screens would be viewable from a central place (with perhaps the most recently added screen viewable on the front page). So, if someone posted a new screen for their game, it would also show up at the top of the list in the Screenshot Repository, where people can (also) comment on it or whatever. It would act a lot like a Screenshot topic, but cleaner, as comments would be associated with the screenshot, and not quoted and scattered across 3 pages of a thread.

Using that same concept, we'd make a Blog Repository, where new blog posts would centralized in a common area for people to see, read and comment upon.

People have mentioned that the Random Screenshot leads them to view games they otherwise would never have clicked, so these two concepts are like an extension of that.

Any other suggestions on how to increase visibility of games, articles, reviews and tutorials would be appreciated

Nobody told me! Wow, that's a great honor!

What is a Game Making Drive thread?

The Repositories sound like a good way to get me to do more site-related stuff. Good ideas!

Oh that thing. I thought you were actually doing a charity or something for games.
Now this has probably already been anwsered but I'm a little confused by this part of the original post.

RMN3

  • Manage the people on your game team. You will be able to give other people access to your game.
  • Game testers are also part of the game team. You will be able to add testers to your game. You will be able to mark special downloads for your game as "tester versions" and they will be able to see these.
  • Faster and simpler tools to manage your game. The control panel has been redone to be faster and give you all game access in a single place.

So does this mean that RMN3 will help support game teams between people of the community? Also how would something like that work?
I think it needs more organizing as resources on RMN is a mess. It's hard to tell if you're already planning this but I thought allowing other members to add tags, having more sub-categories within the game engine might make things more tidier.
hmmm im late to this topic, but it sounds cool! it'll definitely promote the mainsite more rather than just the forum. people can comment on it, right? so there's no huge loss. that'll be cool to have an rss for games...

WIP: In RMN3, can you make it so that sig images completely touch eachother, without that small gap between them? It allows me to make cooler sigs.
Hmmm... Less talk, more make game, eh?

I wanna see how this is gonna work. It IS a different approach, and it could be productive!

On the other hand, it sounds like it may be harder to get players this way, and honest feedback from actual players. I think this may end up rewarding the people it wasn't intended to reward!

Well, it seems like once you have completed a game, that game is doomed to obscurity simply because you aren't making updates on the game itself anymore. People will possibly switch to updating a game frequently, but making miniscule changes bit by bit, thereby delaying the completion of the game to get more players.

This system could end up rewarding the people who put minimal work into their games simply because they'll update more frequently, and not the guys who work extensively to produce a quality game but rarely make changes to it.

Well, that's kind of how it works now with forums, so this new setup isn't any worse in that regard. One advantage that the new setup has is the ability to filter Completed games only.
Yeah, but at least with the forum, if you were a seriously talented gamemaker, you could draw attention to your game with a thread (which usually gets answered quickly enough)

Now it's like same deal, only tougher for the GOOD game makers. Although I like the filter for completed games. THAT is definitely a good idea.

After reading this again I am very excited about RMN3.
Isn't there a way to keep all of the games that are made? ???

well yes there is but it's much better to clean up the database by removing games that the owners don't update/work on anymore.
