Like?! Cliches?!

IMPOSSIBLE. But seriously, come on, are there any common plot conventions in RPGs or video games that you happen to enjoy, especially when they're pulled off or presented in a stylish, well written, or engaging way? I know it sounds like an unthinkable thing to like a cliche, but I made this topic with the thought in mind that if you were to find a plot convention that you enjoyed when told well, perhaps that would help you in your games when you find yourself writing something that's been done a lot; perhaps thinking of a game that pulled it off well will inspire you.

Me? I happen to really like the 'Evil Empire' trope/cliche/convention when it's pulled off well. A powerful political and military entity is subjugating other nations by force, so the heroes find a way to stop them. However, I only really enjoy this when it's done a certain way; that's why I like the Suikoden series so much, it's not about the heroes defeating a giant imperial military organization with just 6 people, a few relics and a lot of Deus Ex machinas, no, all of the Suikodens have the main character actually building a rival army one way or the other and challenging that empire/rebellion/civil war/invading power on their own terms, while telling a story along the way. Hell, did you know that the first Suikoden game took place in a timespan of about two years?

So, what's yours?

Like?! Cliches?! IMPOSSIBLE.
I admit that I actually like the cliche romance in RPG's :-X.
You know, where it's really obvious that the main female role is in love with the main male role. I don't know why, but I just don't mind it. It actually keeps me engaged as to where this will go, etc, etc.
I also like idea of an evil empire (E.G, Final Fantasy VI, and how it was 'pulled off').
I also like the idea that the evil empire has advanced weapons and machinery :D.
I really like the fantasy cliche type rpg. Having to defeat some sort of evil demon god or rescuing a princess has always been a favourite of mine and is why i created Demon Destiny. Even though this is used in so many big titles such as final fantasy i never get bored of it.
I'm all for gameplay, as long as a game has good gameplay, I'll play it regardless of the story being cliche.
I'd play a cliche game with spectacular gameplay, before playing a unique boring game.
Saving the world is pretty cool and a fast track to epicness. It gives a convientent excuse to check out places and raid everybody's house.

Oh, and a wacky variety of weapons is neat, practically be damned. Mixing swords and guns? Good days! (as long as they remain seperate) Some day there should be a Shatkick weapon. It'll be glorious.

Also murderious cute things.

Awww YES! I liked this most in FFX, except it was kind of 2 sided. You could tell that both Yuna and Tidus had something for eachother.
Cliches in general don't really bother me. Storytelling is far more important than the actual story being told. So as long as the story is being told effectively and makes me care about the characters and their goal, I don't really mind seeing elements of stories I've already seen pop up in other games. Originality for the sake of originality is just dumb in my opinion. As long as the story doesn't feel like a direct rip off of something I've played before I likely won't have an issue.

Cliches that I like more? Oh, I dunno. I just like playing the role of the hero that saves the world. I guess the cliche I like the most is when the hero and villain have a special relationship where they're fated to battle each other. Like Ryu and Fou-Lu in Breath of Fire IV.
I do not ever ever like cliche. For something to be a cliche, it is by necessity (and the definition of the word as used today) tired and predictable.

HOWEVER, there are many Tropes that I enjoy quite a lot! It doesn't matter if a plot or genre point is used as long as it is handled correctly. If something is handled well, it will never appear "cliched" and always familiar.
you have to collect X number of ancient magical whatevers in order to X and defeat X

I suppose if I had to pick one cliche to like it'd be this one, especially when the game gives it an interesting twist (Paper Mario TTYD) or it is only one part of a much larger story (Mother 3)

from a game maker's perspective, its a great way to get the charecters to visit a large number of different and interesting locations, but I think it should only be used as a plot device for a large chapter and not the whole game as LOTS of games have done this before, its not a bad cliche but its still a cliche after all
I'll take any cliche if it's presented in an entertaining way, but I've always had a soft spot for badass evil overlord characters. I've never been fond of "OMG TWO SIDES BOTH COULD BE RIGHT THE WORLD IS SHADES OF GRAY" stuff. A good main antagonist damn near shapes a storyline, and in my opinion is a requirement. Where would Final Fantasy 7 be if it didn't have a Sephiroth?!

Probably more interesting.

I'll second this
Everybody likes a cliché. Because everything is cliché.

The difference is how well you hide or improve upon one. So yes, I like every cliché as long as it is done correctly. I can appreciate when developers take things an extra step forward, whether it be with the storyline or gameplay. But seriously, that word is tossed around so much that it practically does not matter or has no meaning anymore. All games are cliché in SOME way.

I specially love the cliche My Ship is better AND bigger than yours :3

Sad to see the guy's still getting a bad rap on the internets...
Saving the world.

I absolutely love epic adventures about heroes trying to save the world, because you can incorporate absolutely everything, from romance to action, comedy to drama, etc.. The idea of befriending different characters with different motives/personalities/abilities, party dynamics, villains -- it all makes me wet myself with excitement.

It's hard to execute well, though. I'd like to see more epic adventures with 'set pieces' as opposed to town-dungeon-town-dungeon.
Craze

I absolutely love Forbidden Kingdom, which is a westerner's take on Chinese kung fu movies. It has an enthusiastic but unwilling hero, a silent and enigmatic roguegirl, a crazy 'old man' drunk thrasher, and a warrior-monk (healer?) clad in a pure white gi. They must stop a treacherous (immortal!) warlord and his minions. A time limit of ~500 years is in place for the immortals. One of the party memberscharacters is an immortal*.

It is an incredible movie; top-notch presentation.

...maybe I just like it because it features Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Millia Rage.

IN CASE MY POST IS NOT CLEAR TO YOU I LIKE THOSE CLICHES I GUESS WHATEVER JUST TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT

Also, I have a certain fondness for demons living in towers.
