SCREENSHOT SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

Posts

@J-Man: Looks solid so far, but you should fix that spelling mistake in the first screen. Unless it's supposed to be a dwarven sounding accent or something, which I doubt given the look of the screen.
Lennon, unlike you I love Earthbound/Mother 3 but I see the point Veronica was making. I think he was just trying to put you down, IMO I don't really care even if the graphics are 100% ripped from Mother 3. As long as it plays good, you're doing great.

Vulture (by CAHRULL) is also similar in terms of graphics. Take a look at his Saturn house.

I don't see why someone would target you mainly. I think even Homecoming heavily borrowed graphics off Earthbound.

Anyways, I'd love to see at least a demo of your game so please keep at it instead of trying to defend your game against sulky people.

There's going to be a demo of just the prologue in the next couple of weeks, depending on how fast I do everything (Without rushing of course). Depending on people's reactions to the demo, if there is intrest in the project I'll start writing the meat of the story.

When I finish the demo and get it playtested by a friend I'll make the topic and game page, so there will be fair warning.
Quick question and stuff thingy.

I know the chipset was from Velsarbor, and I did find the chipset on Necromortis. But is this chipset completely custom? And was it allowed to be used? If anyone has an answer then that would be grand, cause if it is custom I'll be scrappin' this and using something else instead.
When in doubt, I probably wouldn't use it. I'd say that it is very likely that it is a heavily modified rip, though I don't know where it is ripped from.

Anyway, a VX town!
That cross cliff looks a bit flat on the left hand side but otherwise it looks very much like a forest town.

Lol. XD

I hate it when people make cool games like those. Makes me ambitious to use the program and try to be better to only end up failing. >_<;;

A quick (<40 sec) trailer I made for Starless Umbra.

Video of a system I took some time to prototype today. I had my general idea and 'coding' theory for it written down beforehand. So I was just waiting to try and apply it.

It's pretty much a stripped down version of Ar Tonelico's Magic system.

You choose a spell and then it charges throughout the passing turns, building up power, and then you can choose to cast the spell whenever you want.

Your spell will evolve the more you charge it and based on how much you've charged, the damage the spell does will be boosted. The amount your spell is charged by is directly dependent on the EP Cost of the spell, so you lose that much EP each turn and in exchange you gain that much charge.

My own additions are simply the choice to charge your spell even more through the command menu and choosing to release the spell and gain back all lost EP during casting.

And with that I'm off.

Skie:

That particular system (the spell charging) looks sound although your overall balance seems kind of screwy. (That whole battle seemed to take way too long for a regular fight, for instance, and regular attacks seemed disproportionately worthless).

Where did you get that awesome song???

F-G:

To be honest, I really HATE that style you've got there.

Admittedly, though, I barely work on this project; I'm still trying to get up the enthusiasm to properly start another game (aka. setting up the database, ergh...)

I know there was/is a topic for this, but do you actually set up the database/make all the maps all in one go? That sounds like it could get really tedious. I prefer to skip around and make a little of everything. Like I might set up five skills, then a couple maps, then do some enemies, then some eventing etcetera. I know everyone has their own method, though.

(Personally, I like database work probably the best, then eventing. I REALLY don't like mapping.)

YAY! everything but the systemset was made by me, by these screens, i guess you could conclude two things: i love earthbound´s graphics and i´m a terrible mapper =/

planing on a public release to this chipset though. i wanna see a GOOd map out of it ...

also showing my, kinda, new cms.

@fallen: i´d love to pla your game, the graphics seem nice, but i would just stop playing after 15 minutes, because my eyes would hurt of the contrast ::)
I love custom graphics. That looks excellent, Joseph.

Yeah they do look nice! You should really get in a custom system set asap so everything blends together because right now it sort of sticks out, but I'm sure you know that. :]

Still, very nice screen.
@Fallen-Griever:

Take out the 1 and 5 commands and set them to the left and right arrow key. I'm not exactly sure what you're going for, is it an RPG with adventure game movement? If you're going for that I suggest you minimize the UI as much as possible.

@JosephSeraph:

This is rad but I think you should make their eyes stand out more, its as if they have hole/indents as eyes. Bugs me.
