..:: Top 10 List of Favorite Films of 2008 ::..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_in_film

What were your favorite films of 2008? What were your least favorite? Why? Are there any movies you'd still like to see, or any movies you'd recommend to avoid?

TOP 10:
10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
9. Hellboy II: The Golden Army
8. Tropic Thunder
7. Quantum of Solace
6. Get Smart
5. The Forbidden Kingdom
4. The Dark Knight
3. Iron Man
2. Kung Fu Panda
1. WALL-E

I watched these movies - AVOID THEM! (they sucked):
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Righteous Kill
Max Payne
Twilight
Seven Pounds

I still want to see:
10,000 BC
The Happening
Hamlet 2
Eagle Eye
Bolt
Bedtime Stories
Revolutionary Road

I've also watched (and they were pretty good):
27 Dresses
Mad Money
Rambo
In Bruges
Jumper
The Spiderwick Chronicles
Leatherheads
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
The Incredible Hulk
Hancock
You Don't Mess with the Zohan
Religulous
Wanted

FINAL NOTE: I also just watched Shoot 'em up for the first time last week. IT IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!
I actually didn't see very many movies that came out las year. My list is something like:

5. Iron Man
4. Kung Fu Panda
3. 5 Centimeters a Second
2. Wall-E
1. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE

...which is a little pathetic. I'm not even sure if Five Centimeters a Second was released last year! But anyway, Wall-E was excellent and if you haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire by now, you really should.

10,000 BC
The Happening
Hamlet 2
Eagle Eye
Bolt
Bedtime Stories
Revolutionary Road

I just watched Bolt, It was actually pretty good.
Bedtime Stories was cool too, even though it was rated G I thought the comedy was good for the entire family.

Ugh, are you kidding me? Maybe it is just my dislike of ADAM SANDLER HUMOR, but that movie was pretty fucking awful. =[

I don't really have a "list of favorites," but there were quite a few films that I recall enjoying: (Favorites bolded. <3)

The Dark Knight (I grow to dislike this the more I watch it, but hey.)
Quantum of Solace
Iron Man
Cloverfield (I strangely didn't remember this being '08)
Walle-E
Hellboy II
Burn After Reading (I'm not sure I fully understood this, but still enjoyable!)
Revolutionary Road (Fantastic.)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Incredible Hulk (Decent?)
Slumdog Millionaire (I thought this was a tiny bit overrated.)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (People expected far too much from this film. I think it was enjoyable for what it was, really.)
My Favorites:
-Happy-Go-Lucky (You absolutely MUST see this movie)
-Slumdog Millionaire (Pretty good, though the above movie is better imo)
-Gran Torino (I cried ;_; If this is Clint Eastwood's last movie, which, judging by the look of him, just might be, what a way to end a career.)
-Ghost Town (One of those movies that leaves you in a good mood.)
-Role Models (This one took me by surprise. It sounded like a generic raunchy comedy but it was HILARIOUS beyond all means.)
-Let the Right One In (Great twist on the typical vampire gimmick.)
-Be Kind Rewind (Ever since Eternal Sunshine I've always liked Michel Gondry.)
-Wall-E (Of course, only the emotionless could hate a Pixar movie.)

Honorable Mentions:
-Marley and Me (I cried even more than Gran Torino ,,;_;,,)
-Cloverfield (I guess. Still like Blair Witch better.)
-In Bruges (I like how this movie makes you laugh and a minute later want to staple your eyes shut.)
-Zack and Miri Make a Porno (Of course, Kevin Smith is a genius. Elizabeth Banks I've liked ever since seeing her on Scrubs, and while Seth Rogan somehow seemed to make his way into every movie this year he still retained that quirky charm of his.)

Okay:
-Hellboy II: The Golden Army
-Step Brothers (AKA What I thought Role Models was going to be like but thankfully wasn't.)
-Tropic Thunder
-Iron Man
-The Dark Knight (Cue angry mob. Superhero movies just aren't my thing. Fun fact: mi padre helped out with the film, he and a bunch of other bomb technicians blew up the hospital.)
-Burn After Reading (Always nice to see Brad Pitt shot in the face. Also why I liked Fight Club.)
-Hancock (Started out strong but, well, I've never seen a movie fall apart so quickly.)
-Baby Mama (Completely innocent, completely predictable, but still pretty decent.)

Want to see:
-Man on a Wire
-Take-Out
-Doubt
-Tell No One
-The Wackness
-Horton Hears a Who!
-Son of Rambow
-The Wrestler
-Milk
I heard Burn After Reading was disappointing.

Unfortunately I haven't really watched any fall films. (I think the last one I saw was Let the Right One In)

Also. There's not a whole lot that jumps at me from this year. The Dark Knight was of course fricking awesome and the previously mentioned Let the Right One in was pretty damn high up there of movies of the year for me.

Other films I really liked over the year was Be Kind Rewind, Doomsday and (which is technically a 2007 film but what the hell)

However there was a bunch of films I just didn't get to see. And my principle goes that I download movie that I don't really want to see but want to see for seeing sake. Which means the films I actually want to see go on a to-get-on-DVD-list (unless they're still running and I manage to get a day off work to go to the cinema). This is probably an incomplete list: Son of Rambow, Happy-Go-Lucky, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Hamlet 2, Wall-E, In Bruges and Slumdog Millionare (which has a March release date over here)

Movies that were good and fulfilled my expectations:
Hellboy 2

Yeah... that's probably it. Most anticipated films disappointed somewhat (Indy 4, Get Smart, Quantum of Solace, Tropic Thunder, Iron Man). Of course it might be that I had too much expectations. But none of them really left too much of a mark.

And then last. Films that you need to avoid:
Meet the Spartans
Disaster Movie
The Happening
X-Files - I want to Believe

When I say avoid I really mean avoid. I watch a lot of shit. And a lot of it has redeeming factors. Not so in these cases. (Except perhaps the laugh you'll get out of the Happening) As an example of otherwise shit movies I've seen that I find more redeeming than these: You Don't Mess With the Zohan, Mad Money, Postal, Baby Mama, The Love Guru, Meet Dave and The House Bunny.

Then there was a lot of average. A LOT of average.

EDIT:
I'll make a special shout out to the musicals of the year which I actually caught in the cinema: Mamma Mia! and High School Musical 3. Of the two I'd say Mamma Mia ranked higher. If only because I noticed after I left the cinema that I couldn't hum a single song from HSM3. Of course Mamma Mia has ABBA's classic music going for it but still. You should have at least one hummable tune...
I haven't seen that many this year, but I'll say WALL-E. For some reason Dark Knight didn't drag me in as much as I thought it would.

And then last. Films that you need to avoid:
Meet the Spartans
Disaster Movie
The Happening
X-Files - I want to Believe
I was skimming over the post at first and missed that header line, I was like "...wuht?" :P
Wow, I feel woefully inadequate when it comes to movies watched. Let's see, order of enjoyment in 2008:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Quantum of Solace
3. Cloverfield

Oh wait, that's it. I didn't go to the movies much last year. >_>

It's like toothpicks against a tank

Omg you cannot forget "No country for old men"! That is a movie!

Did that come out in 2008?
No, that was 2007. In fact, it won Best Picture 2007. But, yeah, great movie.
Only watched a handful and out of those I liked The Dark Knight and Kung Fu Panda the most.

5. Iron Man
4. Step Brothers

However there are alot of few who got clsoed on the top-ten:

11. Get Smart
12. Dark Knight
13. Pineapple Express
14. Eagle Eye
I thought 2008 wasn't a very notable year for movies, although there were a few good ones. (I haven't seen stuff like Revolutionary Road and The Wrestler yet thought, I'll do that this week probably.) I'll post up a list with maybe a couple of reviews later.
man. looking through this i realize i haven't seen any new movies this year! out of the ones that have been mentioned, forgetting sarah marshall was the best one i've seen. i want to see 10,000bc.

why was everyone obsessed with dark knight? it was a let down, imo.
