There's all sort of genres out there, but every other RM game is Medieval, Sci-Fi, or Post-Apocalyptic.

I'll just suggest a simple premise:

ESPIONAGE

Let's all be spies and secret agents and shit. I wanna see gadgets and tricked-out cars and rocket packs and all that.

So? Do we have the next big genre? Discuss.
Personally, I'd rather see more Steampunk.
I concur with ST.

But espionage could be cool. The only problem is it requires being creative with systems.

I couldn't care less about secret agents. We need more robots.
I think what we need is a Pre-Apocalyptic game.

Like where you are there to try and stop the ultimate badass from destroying the world, and the villain succeeds, and then the game ends.

That's pretty depressing and probably wouldn't be too fun. How about the villain succeeds, and the game goes on and you stop him?
How about preapocolyptic where the bad guy destroys the world and the hero gets sent back in time to where the adventure began to stop the end of the world now that he knows how it happens (or at least one way)

Not all endings need to be happy.

How about a game where the hero tries to save the world from a villain but ends up destroying it himself because he was actually the villain. :o

How about Final Fantasy VI?
Yes, I am aware of the similarity, however it is still a good and relatively fresh concept!

Have you been talking to BlindMind by any chance?
How about a post apocolyptic game revolving around curing the infected and bringing the world back to peace, and in the end you must make a decision whether you sacrifice your life for everyone else, or if it is your friend who must do it?

cough cough.

No, but I like games that have weird plot twists like that. My project actually started off with a similar storyline.
I think espionage is more of a subsetting. Like you can have medieval espionage, sci-fi espionage, postapoc espionage (well honestly I don't really know how you'd have postapoc espionage but I'm sure it can be done. I guess it sort of depends on the postapoc...).

I was going to start an espionage themed game a couple months back but then I realized I have way too many fucking projects as it is.

An espionage game is not really suited for rpg maker(im assuming that is what most people use).

I see no reason why not. Especially if we are talking about the grown up version of RPG Maker, VX.

Haha this is exactly type of game I've got in planning as sequel to Ascendence, which is steampunk and sort of industrial.
Tho it's not actually so obviously in the way you described, but "preapocalyptic" to say at least.

Other than that, lack of games for these genres might be partly because of resources though?

Yeah, for XP and VX at least.
