So a new trailer has come out for FF13, and so far it is looking as deliciously FF7-midgar style cyber-punk as I could ever hope for.

Maybe its time to invest in a PS3?
FF13? Gameplay? Heh, does japan have a late april fools or something? But seriously it looks rather clunky in some areas and very flashy. Does this look like it works differently than FF12? I can't tell.
I have a 360 and it will play this game just fine. I will have a PS3 by the time this it out, though.

When I see this I get such mixed feelings. Sometimes I'm saying it's awesome, but then I see how repetitive it looks (walk, fight, walk, fight) and how the UI looks and my feelings change. But everybody is gonna buy it no matter what, and I will enjoy it! My guess is you can only control one character, it would be very very hectic if you had to control more than one!

Also I bet you that cyber-punk midgar style will leave the game almost entirely 8 hours in. ;)

Oh if you wanna know about the gameplay, it is essentially a mix of FF12 and FFX-2. If you've played Chrono Cross, the gameplay is also similar to that. Basically you will have moves that cost points depending on how powerful they are, and you'll be able to chain them. Powerful spells cost more points to cast, but you can chain weaker ones together, etc. That's the basics, at least.

edit: I can't stand those gametrailer comments.

So far not really a fan of the menu stuff. It all looks really messy and just sort of thrown on there.

I'll get this for my 360 but it just seems really uninspired from what I've seen.
Blond toque guy is very quickly becoming my favorite character just for how often he's breaking the badass stereotype. Watch the cutscenes at 21:10 and 23:00 for examples.

You're probably right. :'(

Like the battle theme.

Also, the new behemoth(?) at 9:35 is schweet.

As far as I can tell, there's some sort of "Choose your wait time" thing going on where you throw an action into cue and you wait longer, but the cued actions occur immediately once the ATB runs out.Like, you can cue Attack, wait, smack something, cue Blizzard, wait, freeze something, then cue Attack again; or you can cue Attack-Blizzard-Attack and wait for their combined ATB time, and end up with this slashing ice combo.

Also, it kind of reminds me of X-2 where character positions change over the course of battle, and XII how they move and strafe for an opening. Without any off the awkward collision of either. :D

Very nice to watch at any rate. Hopefully just as nice to play. I dunno, Square games vary from VIII's to VI's. We'll have to wait and see. :'(

ALSO black dude has gun-fu. Me like, me like.

I hope it happens sooner than that. Holy shit do those soldiers and the commander guy look retarded.
In my head I have very loose undefined half-baked concepts about what a new Final Fantasy should be like if the world was perfect, and sadly this doesn't satisfy them.

Actually, that's for the best, as it means I don't have to waste money on a PS3.

Can't wait to finally play Final Fantasy IV: the After though, whenever it's coming.
I love innovation, I don't think I said anything that said otherwise. I thought my post was self-deprecating enough on my opinions.

Maybe it's just because I haven't been de-sensitised to graphics like these due to not have a next-generation console but my God I really want a PS3 now.

Also lol at the guy with the afro speaking in Japanese.

EDIT: I'm not sure about the music so far; I was expecting something more "techy" and less dramatic.
Perhaps FF13 may not be so bad, now that they've gone back to basics... sorta. Since it seems more along the style of FFX-2's battle system which I freakin' loved. (side from the switchin' job classes durin' battle, wasn't exactly nessecary.)
This looks acceptably better that FF12. I may actually consider getting this.

It also looks like I won't hate the battle system as much, it's somewhat different from 12 from what I can tell and it's not exactly like the old style either. I wouldn't say it's a mix, but a new system entirely. And it looks to me like it's an acceptable battle system.

Also the battle music sounds outstanding.

Get an XBox. Cheaper and better.

What WIP Said. Unless you really want a Blue Ray player as well?

Anyways I heard the Final Fantasy X team is making this game.. Kinda bummed by that actually, mainly because I thought X was a piece of shit aside from it's gameplay and Blitzball.

Oh and something I noticed about this. When Lost Odyssey came out with it's turn based action styled battle system reviewers and pretty much a lot of people critisized it for being "Old" and stating turn based is dead. But when Final Fantasy does it it's alright?
I got the PS3 mostly because of the blu-ray player, I admit.

Welcome to fanboys!
This is aside, but could you imagine if the next Dragon Quest game wasn't turn based? People would riot in the streets!

Since I'm old and haven't played an FF since VII, I'm much more interested in turnbased combat. Gives me a bit of time for my old brain to think. And like WIP, I hope the game isn't "cyberpunk" for long.

I believe this has happened for DQ9 in development, but was quickly changed due to large scale conflicts. :o

But eh, it's really not surprising to see FF change at all. Because if you compare FF6 to FF7, there was a HUGE adjustment on how everything worked (characters playing almost the same, materia system, pre-rendered backdrops, cutscenes). Then came FF8 which threw out a lot of other traditional things (like a story that makes sense). When you get to FF11, yeah...
