w-what. Time to get working on Muse - -.

Do it. That's one of my most anticipated games.

The HUD values such as HP/SP and limit are non functional yet. That wouldn't take long to do but I just haven't gotten around to it since I was doing other planning.

Invisible person, because their sprite is not done. I'll have some customs for the enemies as well, that'll be later. Basically you can walk a few steps, attack, open the menu and use an item/spell/limit or end your turn. I want it to be something pretty simple, but that works better than the old game did and without the bugs.
@Ocean: Heh, I remember playing the original wayyy back. It was really confusing mainly because of the overly done maps. Good to see you've made it more simple.
I'm about to make an underground city, tardis, I might use these pics as a guide for how it should look.

Haha, yes. I've received a good amount of feedback on the game so I'm going to address those, and have some beta-testing (something the original game didn't have other than me) and peoples opinions on the system before I continue the game.

i love you tardis

@ALL "IT'S TOO DARK" COMMENTS:
I'm adding an additional light source or two to the map, so that will lighten it up a bit more. Also, I've brightened it up a bit since that screen. It'll be much more visible the next time I post a screen. ;)
That said, you're underground. It's supposed to be a little bit uncomfortably dark.
For all you blind folks out there, here's an overlay-free screen so you can see some of the detail in the map:

@Ocean: God damn that's awesome. I love your art style, it's so vibrant. Your sprites look almost... Edible. Like Willy Wonka edible. And that's AWESOME.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume those face graphics are custom too?

@Drakonais: I didn't know I was an expert on underground cities. The only thing you really need to remember is to make it cramped as hell, and use some varying texture on floors/ground.

@tardis: I am blind tooooo. That being said, it's a lovely map, I don't see too many people using the FF6 vector town sets (or maybe I don't notice it) so a plus for that. Almost makes me feel like going up and going pipe walking there. Excellent job though!

Yep, facesets are custom drawn for me. The one on the right is temporary until I get the faceset to replace it. :3 Glad you like the graphical style!
@Tardis: It looks sooooooo much better without the darkness. I think you should be very very gentle about how you darken it.

@Darken: I find your post at least 12 different kinds of ironic, based on your username. I'm experimenting with some different effects to make the all-encompassing darkness a bit lighter.
I enjoy being able to see things.
I have to agree, Tardis. Your work is excellent, and I really like your light overlays, but function is top priority in any game. Darkening is ok, just be subtle with it.

People will understand that you're in the dark, gloomy underground without overlays or darkening effects. That last screenshot you posted proves that; it looks quite fantastic. Use of colors alone can achieve this effect. which is also shown in your screenshot; the colors are very muted, browns and grays are highly prevalent, and contrast/saturation is pretty even throughout. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the more drastic differences in color and contrast: the player sprite (which is good), and the window light.
don't listen to any of this people as if screenshots were the same as a running game or something
I think the light-overlay that you had Tardis was fine :(. I know it'll look better in-game ;P.
Also, I should have mentioned this in the last page, buuuut... You're indoor maps for this underground town have white lights, whilst the exterior maps have yellow/orange lights :(. Though, I like the gloomy feel that the yellow/orange lights give off, so perhaps change the colour of the lighting in the indoor maps?
I can see Tardis' screenshot... Only because my color calibration is overly light and washed out at the moment (Due to a fresh install, and me without my Spyder color calibrator).

Unless you want the player to be unable to see anything, tone down the darkness. With this screenshot you're going for subtle lighting, and that's fine; but as it is now; all it looks like is photoshop paintbrush blotting.

This is how all lighting effects should be executed.

Duly noted. Keep in mind, that screenshot was to give my co-creator an idea of light sources in the town. The full overlay will look much more professional.

Dem germans...

The screens I wanted to post yesterday. In the second one there's a new ability from the ABS: "Body Stroke". It works kinda like the dash ability in God of War, and it has an extra knockback effect on the enemy. It's good for situations where you are stuck in front of the enemy. I also want it to be an option for switching between melee and ranged combat (you knockback the enemy and then you start shooting at him), but I haven't yet implemented ranged weapons in the system. :)

PS - I know about the mapping glitches in the second ss. I'll get to that next time I'll be home.

Your screens always blow my mind East... That is 100% fantastic.
