Nah, I know what you were trying to say. I was directing that more to people who DO think something is wrong with it; there were some attitudes like that earlier in this very thread!

I don't think theres anything wrong with a guy having a bit of muscle, but when it's the World Wrestler kind of look, it's too much, and people probably see it as unnatural.
Though I understand why you would defend it, it's just.. when it's so much muscle that legs start chaffing and stuff, i get the feeling that there's a limit before it isn't about being healthy anymore.

To get to that point requires a lot more than just working out and watching what you eat. It's an obsessive lifestyle and just as dangerous as others.

Looking your best is great. Unfortunately, most people don't have the best personality to back up their looks.

As an aside, let me clarify that looking like the guys on those extreme muscle magazines is well, extreme and does require a damn near obsession, sometimes steroid fueled obsession, to obtain. Too much. If you want a mental picture, having a body like the dudes in Men's Health/Fitness is as good a goal as any.

I didn't mean to imply there was. I just meant that just being fit/looking good isn't a big enough draw for me to invest the time and effort to workout.

Quite the opposite for me. It's not that looking better is my motivation entirely, but as you can tell from the earlier pictures, I'm one skinny kid! So I decided that with the incredibly small amount of fat that I have on me, it would be fairly simple to start looking fairly muscular.

Also, being in good shape, and feeling that extra muscle just makes me feel a little bit better about myself. I mean, I know I won't ever be as ripped as some guys you see on tv, or even as muscular as my friends at school, I'm just saying that it feels good to know that you are improving your body, and getting a little bit stronger each work out.
I'm getting in shape so I can do things that I couldn't do otherwise. Longer hikes, rock climbing, long distance bike rides, etc. I'd hate to want to plan a big trip or do anything and realize I can't do to my lack of fitness. I think in fairly similar terms with other aspects of life. It's all to increase freedom and possibility.

Feld, while your (probably unintentional) slightly condescending attitude makes me take everything you say with a grain of salt, I did do internet research on most things you said, and what I got out of it was that it wouldn't hurt to also do some free weight exercises. A lot of sources I've read straight up disagree with you about walking and jogging, but the rest of what you said seems fairly valid.

I definitely don't mean to sound condescending, and for that I apologize. However, I stand by my statement that machines should have very little, to almost no place in a real workout, and I'm willing to back that up with sources and information myself. I don't mean to sound like a dick! I just want to make sure that my information is backed up and presented correctly and intelligent, and that I can respond to any criticisms or rebuttals.

Huh? Everyone should walk and jog. It's a great fitness habit to have.
Participaction! Everyone should walk.

Jogging can do some real work on your shins, though. I can attest to that.
Walking and Jogging are good for you and whoever says otherwise is flat out stupid.

Also, I can attest to machines really not doing much for you. Just bench, squat, and clean, + plenty of dumb bell excercises (which you can work anything with those if you know how) and you'll work pretty much everything.
If someone did nothing but squat their entire life they'd be stronger/fitter than the majority of people. Squats; that is, correct, non machine assisted, heavy squats are hard as shit, but it is the single most rewarding and hard hitting exercise the gym can offer.

Do it like Zack, and you will be able to fight Sephiroth in no time.
I must've misread your post Feld about the walking/jogging thing. My bad.

Jogging I think is potentially dangerous, but I've had zero problems so far. I'll research free weight shit for netx time I go to the gym.

Is there such a thing as going too much to the gym? I go 3 to 4 times a week as it is right now.

Zack did it the punk way without any weights.

That's a good frequency. As long as you don't overtrain, you should be fine! To directly answer your question, there is such a thing as going too much; when you go more often than your body can recover.
I'm from Surrey, although I tell people I'm from Vancouver. It's what we do.

Tomorrow's exercise is... surfing! It kills my arms every time, but it fun times.
Hey, I used to live in Surrey! (Near the newton wavepool)

And I'm pretty sure S4D lives in langley or something

Speaking of exercise, I was at the gym on Friday and did standing calf raises. Something like 340lbs.

Anyway, I could barely walk yesterday. I had to walk on my toes so my calves didn't stretch out from putting my whole foot down.

It was all fantastic.
I increase my Strength stat by at least three every day.

B-)

To be fair, even most ugly and average people have terrible personalities.

Just so everyone knows, having powerful legs is a requirement of being Admin here at RMN.
