DRAGON QUEST IX
Posts
It's actually the fastest selling game of all time in Japan.
Speaking of Grandia...I really want another one of those games to com out! Gah. The third one was fun, but the storyline passed the mid-way point really began to suck. They just rushed through the whoel thing, and lost the great feeling they had going. I want the next Grandia to actually get everything done before being released. >:O
And regarding Dragon Quest IX: I think the touch-encounters and the new little thign they have going on with the battle system makes it look much better. I hope it comes out here soon D=

Don't look now, but DQ9 got 40/40 from Famitsu.
Famitsu is owned by Enterbrain, who happens to make the RPG Maker series. Notice how the engine (except RM2k3 and RM3) is heavily geared toward making Dragon Quest type games? There's a reason for that.
I'm surprised DQ9 didn't get 41/40 from them.
I don't mean to always counter what you say vid wizard, but I'm not sure if that's true. This is the first Dragon Quest game to get a perfect score, it's not like they all get perfect scores.

Well like every game from Famitsu gets 40/40 these days.
Not true. Only 10 have ever gotten 40/40. Even GTA4 which has a slew of 100s on Metacritic (DQ9 will be lucky to clear 80% there when it comes out here) only managed 39/40.
So I'm over a month late, but I finally picked up Dragon Quest IX. I'm still at the first town, but so far I love it. It's amazing how much they've changed aesthetically this game, but how they've still remained very conservative. Battles look great and are just as fast as the previous games. Graphics (and cut scenes) look a lot better than I thought they would. Enemies being visible on the world map works well.
My only complaint, and I'm not sure if it's just my DS or all DS's (or DQIX), but moving diagonal is really tricky for me. If I'm not hitting the D-pad in the exact right spot I'm not going diagonal. It's strange.

There seems to be at least 500% more female in DQIV. DQVIII had Jessica, Red, Ghostqueen, Valentina... ... ...... ...that rich girl from Baccarat... ..............and that's it.
post=94365Plenty enough for me. : )
Jessica
I think you mean IX and not IV, right? So far there's two prominent NPCs that are female, but I don't think they'll really be in the game too much. Your party is entirely up to you (I have one lady in mine), and the NPCs are quite evenly split.
I'm at the second town now. I never thought I'd care about how their equiptment looks so much. The leather hat on my dancer really doesn't look nice, so I bought the head band with one less defense point. It'd be cool to try the multiplayer, but I think it's just not in the cards right now.
I'm really really really loving this game.

Err yeah, I meant IX. =P IV had plenty of girls! Meen, Maya, Alena, possible Heroine... versus Torneko, Ragnar, Borya, Kiryl, Psaro. Also, a lot of NPCs were girls (Rose, fallen Zenithian woman, the ladycastle, etc.).
