RPG Maker VX graphics=awesome. RPG Maker VX music=not so much. RPG Maker VX crazy Earthbound-esque battle backgrounds=wheee! RPG Maker VX monsters=eh...

It looks really good, so far. I hope they'll have character-sets for monsters like they had in RPG Maker XP, though...
Hey, I've been directing RMXP.org members to this site for RMVX information.

I just wanted to let you guys know and I can take that out if you want.

No way, Despain. The more traffic here the better.
VX looks pretty sweet. I have been looking at it for the last little while. Thank god they made events for doors and chests etc. automatic.
First sample game released on Famitsu. It's got graphics from REFMAP and some pretty nice scripting to go along with it. Titled Material Quest 0: Blacklion (title gleaned from the titlescreen and the folder; no idea what the kanji says; presumably the prequel to the two Material Quest games made for RM2k to showcase REFMAP graphics).

Looking through the site a little further, I see games that are made with RPG Makers dating back to 1992 (the Dante 98 in the "Other" section). So, they're still using RPG Makers from 15 years ago.

I guess that means the Virtual Console thing is mainly for America and overseas, or for systems such as the NES/Famicom that aren't made in Japan anymore. If RPG Maker 98 is still being used (and possibly sold), does that mean the Super NES (Super Famicom), Genesis (Mega Drive), Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, and PSOne are still being used over there?

This seems to run against the technologically advanced thing Japan is known for.
Hmm... I dunno, the one thing I can see that I'm not too fond of is the first person battle perspective.

Doesn't sound like to much of an issue, I know, but I'm really keen on the classic FF style side view battles, it's why I use RM2k3 instead of 2000. Well and cause 2k3 is pretty much better anyway. ^.^; Nyaaah~!

I haven't seen anything saying whether that will be optional, and of course it probably won't be. I didn't mess with RMXP at all, but wasn't that also first person?
So sadly, I really doubt it'll be a third person perspective. *sigh*
Other than that, I actually like the almost chibi appearance of everything. I think it's cute as hell and I can't wait to play with it, even if I don't do any serious project with it. (depends on if it's any good.)

Oh and sorry I've been gone so long, people. Exams. Ugh. x.x

The default battle system in a scriptable engine is such a non-issue that no one even bothers. It isn't like RM2k/2k3 where you have to make clunky workarounds to have custom battle systems....in fact, I wouldn't even call what you do in XP (and by extension, VX) "custom" battle systems. They're just battle systems.

...there's probably already a third person battle script out there for download on the Japanese fansites. If there isn't, there'll be one soon. There's very little one will have to do to adapt one from RMXP, it's looking like.

The only issue I can see with first person battles is that the RTP's battle resources are designed for them.
The battle system was returned back to RM2k... well I'm expecting to have more delicate battle system but it's not there I guess...

Anyway, is RGSS used in RMXP the same with EMVX? I'm doing my project in RMXP and I thought to continue it at RMVX when it comes out next February.
Refer to Shadowtext's previous post. I mean, come on--it's just like XP's battle system, but this time you're actually able to decide the names of each character's skill categories, seperately. And there's no bottom battlers, as well. But since you can script the whole thing, the default battle system is a nonissue.

The only thing I'm kind of worried about are the weird flashing textures in the battle background. They look pretty awesome, but is there any way we can just use traditional backgrounds instead?

I'm sure that is easy to change. Though I like that it is one less material to worry about.

I have been doing some stuff in RMVX RGSS lately and it seems like a lot of the old features that are replaced or changed, such as having your hero sprites at the bottom of the screen, are still in the codebase but are just deactivated. There are suspicious lines of code with commands like hero_battlers=false and such that suggest to me it would be pretty easy to restore the RMXP-style battle system.
and by RMVX-style you mean RMXP-style?

Modified.
It seems the RMN RMVX site is down...

When is this coming out, again?
