WORST. GAME. EVER.

What kind of rpg maniac doesn't like final fantasy?

Apparently me. Call me a "Specific RPG Maniac" :P

post=88633
I'd like to, but what about the stories you found boring? What RPGs do you like? Can you be specific?

For the FF games, I've never beaten a single one. Something about something in the game just turns me off. On the other hand, I've beaten most versions of the first 5 Dragon Quests and still playing through 7,8, and waiting for 9 without a problem. Now something about something in the DQ games is something I like. I can't really give a good reason other than I like True Middle Ages times, FF is becoming more futuristic as it gets along.
I have beaten Parasite Eve (I think it's an RPG), Kingdom Hearts, Re:CoM, and 2. I also like the .hack// series, I'm working on the first one. The pokemon series I also like. Grandia 3 is a little boring to me, as is LoTR:The Third Age. I have played Xenogears, but again, never beaten it. I guess there's something similar with all those games that makes me not like them. The Paper Mario series and Super Mario RPG I don't like, while I like LoZ, but it isn't an RPG.

The Paper Mario series and Super Mario RPG I don't like...

The Paper Mario/Superstar Saga/Super Mario RPG's sports the most fun and entertaining gameplay of any RPG I've ever played. There's nothing you could possible dislike in those games!
Well, I don't own any, so I can't really say I dislike it. From what I've seen, I'm not just interested in playing them. I might be, so I'll make that a mabye. But that's just what makes the world go round, people having different views on things.
Best part of that B video:

"A fucking chicken mask...

An upside down, fucking chicken mask!"
Now, granted, I haven't played many games that I don't like - mostly because I'm smart enough to figure out what I would and wouldn't like just by looking at the game and checking it out online. I have been wrong before though.

Ephemeral Fantasia - You have a guitar. You have no idea where to go. You have three days to complete the 'game' in until everything resets itself. You lose your items with the reset. I hate this game. 'Nuff said.

The Snow Queen's Quest - You are a boy, trying to get to the Snow Queen's castle without making a sound, or else she'll wake up and it's game over. You have to dodge monsters, plants, the ground, can't open any treasure chests for items to aid you on your journey (they creeeeeeak) and have to find your way to the castle. All within a time limit (as far as I can remember. I played it once).

This game was alright if you had a walkthrough on hand. It's pretty much impossible without one. But then again if you have to cheat to get through a game... Yeah, I never played much of it either. Loved the music and the guitar minigame though.

I seriously don't think I've played a game I'd consider the worst. Except for maybe Hong Kong 97.

You said you like DQ, and that's fine and all, but the series has way too simple of gameplay and plot.

I see what you did there.
I like FF7 (still do, probably always will). I mean, it's not the best game out there (Suikoden II, Terranigma, Lufia II, Okami and Breath of Fire II are) but it's still better than a lot of other RPGs out there. Much better.

Yes, I am looking at you Star Ocean 3/Breath of Fire V: DQ (you killed BoF, you bastards!)/Orphen/<insertnameofcrappyRPGhere>
I didn't like Super Mario RPG either - but it's no where near Worst. Game. Ever.

bzzzzzzzt

(that's the buzzer going off because you said something dumb)

Please never say "there's nothing you could possibly dislike" about any game ever, especially Mario RPG, which I've already brilliantly proven to be a sucky sucky game.

Also, I can't believe no one mentioned Mystic Quest! That game is garbage. But maybe I just hate that they put the words "final fantasy" in front of the game's name for no reason.

Wow, we must have really different tastes. I forced myself to beat Kingdom Hearts only because it was one of the only games I didn't pirate.

Xenogears got me hooked until the second disc, but I was still interested enough to finish it up.

And that is exactly how I like it :P Games are just material objects. They are just things for people to do to get away from the realities of the world, at least that's how it is for me...

I played that series at 6 or 7 years old. Usually, and I mean maybe, the things you do as a child stick with you for life. I also like the Medieval period, which is what DQ is kind of like.
Can we please talk about The Worst Games Ever and not "FFs I don't like!!11!"

Dragon's Lair is probably one of the hardest games (in a poorly designed way). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc9Hjdd6q1o

This video makes it look easy, but if you play this on an emulator you will only torture yourself trying to beat this game. I think AVGN did this awhile back, but he didn't even get past the first moments of level 2.

Breath of Fire V: DQ (you killed BoF, you bastards!)

INCORRECT. BoF took a departure from the rest of the series, that doesn't mean it was bad. Ridiculously hard, yes. Takes a bit to get used to, yes. But not bad. And if Breath of Fire 4 was any indication, the original formula was getting stale anyway.

EDIT: In fact now I want to play it again...

Out of curiosity, which have you played?

I'm not trying to "attack your statement and your legitimacy" or anything like that. I'm just curious.
I think I mentioned elsewhere that I recently downloaded FFVII, but while in my memory it was an overrated pile of poo, playing it again I realize that it's actually quite good and fun. It doesn't have any of the problems of VIII or IX.

I get not liking the Final Fantasy series, especially if you are to judge them on the GBA remakes (which are void of any sort of flair), but then to say that VIII is one of the best? If DQ is the archetype of what makes an RPG, then VIII surely is one of the worst, and V would surely be the best. However, I also got bored of V when playing it on GBA, so maybe that's why. Playing it on emulator is much better.

DQ is amazing because of it's simplicity. The areas of its expertise are areas that other games have long forgotten about it would seem: basic fundamental gameplay. It cares more about having lots of variations of monsters in an area, or slowly changing the difficulty levels of monsters, or the pricing of the inns than it does about innovative battle systems and all that. In the latter Final Fantasy games it seems that gold, HP damage and levels are something almost encouraged not to think about (started in VII when characters not used would automatically level up along with characters used), and in Dragon Quest games when a Slime gives you 2 gold, that means you'll have to battle two more until you can go to the inn and recharge your HP, so you have to stay really close to the castle to battle the easier enemies to pass a level in order to be able to face off with enemies a little further away from the castle closer to the next town. The entire concept probably seems stupid to a person who got into RPGs only for the stories.

very smart post etc
I played all main DQ games, beaten the first 5 more than once. I do like FF5, but not as much as I personally "like" VIII.

Back on topic...There is this one game called Martian Gothic: *something*. It is a shooter, sort of like the early Resident Evil games. It was very hard and I was too scared of the game at the time, so I stopped playing. Anyone else played this game?

this game? apparently the PC version outstrips the console title.
