basically i run from battles when i'm trying to get somewhere and not trying to train.

this
My policy started with like...Lost Odyssey I think?(it was more recently than it really should have been..) Is that unless I'm in serious danger of dying and there's no heal points, save point, shops, or I'm out of items(which it almost NEVER comes to that point) I fight each and every battle in each room at least once...I mean if I pass through the room a second time and the enemies are the same then I'll probably skip em.

If i do this then there should be no reason I can't be able to take on the boss on the same footing. If i do all those battles all the way to the boss and still lose because I'm just under leveled, the f*** you game, f***you.

But....the vast majority of the time I seem to be just a tad bit over leveled, but no complaints there :p.
I try to fight every enemy, every fight, unless I am encountering the reasons on the negative above.
almost never

unless there are too many enemies and my party is weak from previous battles
I never ever run from a fight in any rpg. Even if I'm out of healing items and almost dead, I'd rather take the loss in dying, having to reload or whatever than lose out on that extra experience, money, or items.

Any time I think about running, I'll remember games like Final Fantasy (the first one, for the nes) where if you started running away, it'd get successively harder to run each time, until you ended up taking longer to run than you would have to kill the monsters.

In a game where there is never random encounters (xenosaga, chrono cross, lunar, etc) I will fight everything on a map, unless it's already been shown to me that I shouldn't fight a specific enemy.

I generally end up a little overlevelled, but no complaints there, really. There have been times where I've been raped by bosses in those situations too, I take that as a challenge.
I'm too manly to run from battles. If for an reason I have to run from a battle is either because I'm bored or I want to save because I'm sleepy.
