PSP - WHY DIDN'T I BUY THIS EARLIER?
Posts
So, recently after an ill-gotten windfall I decided to spoil myself with a PSP - a system I was initially quite leery about buying (not only because it would add ANOTHER system I have to collect games for, but because I wasn't sure how good the games were anyway - having owned a DS for many years).
I got a 3000 as my first after some light research - some people prefer the 2000 but if you're new you might as well get the 3000. It came with Ratchet and Clank, National Treasure 2, a 1 gig card, and a voucher for "Everyday Shooter" that was supposedly expired, but worked anyway. I also bought Dissidia.
I must tell you my first impressions. I was instantly blown away by everything about the system. HUGE screen, ultra bright (I have a first gen DS, and I was fine with that screen, but still). The sound is phenomenal. The graphics were extremely sharp, and my battery hasn't even lost a bar yet. The only things I do not like is that the game loading tray seems flimsy, like I have to care extra care not to damage it; the umd games themselves look like getting them dirty AT ALL will be a huge pain in the ass to fix - mini cd's would have almost been better; and I can't really tell when the psp is in sleep mode.
One thing I was really impressed with was the playstation store having legacy psp games that you can download if you can't find them in disc form. also classic psone games. I might spring for Suikoden, or not.
I can't wait to go scrounging around the local pawn shops for all the great old psp games to fill my collection ^_)^
Here's where you come in, if you would be so kind. I'm a HUGE rpg fan, so what are some great ones for the psp, as well as some of the other classics I should look for (as I haven't followed PSP games AT ALL since it came out - I'm late to the party)

Try Loco Roco 1, 2 or both of them, they're great!
If you're looking for an RPG then try Disgaea. It costs a lot of time, though. ^,~

An RPG fan on RMN??! Whodathunk?
If I had a PSP I'd getan SNES emulator Burnout, Battlefront, Command & Conquer (PSN), Mega Man Powered Up, Metal Slug Anthology, and Theme Park (PSN)
If I had a PSP I'd get
Loco roco and patapon look good, i'll prolly pick those up. I a;ready own Disgaea TWICE, i'm not going to get it a third time, even if the graphics and sound are better
as for YOU kentona... megaman powered up, and maybe some metal slug. but THEME PARK!? really?
C&C might be good now that i think about it though.

back on my ol' Pentium 75.
indeed.
The other thing i noticed about mah PSP is that it attracts oil like nothing I've ever seen. I barely handled it for like 3 hours and it looks like a threw a pizza at it.
Yeah, I LOVED star ocean 2, so I may or may not get it (i already have it on ps1) but I'd most definately going to get first departure.
I think that one was called tales of the world? Don't know much about that one...

Was it?
I thought it was Vesperia, I'm not familar with the Tales of games.
ANd yeah, get First Departure, it's great!

Before you do anything, the best thing to do is to get your PSP hacked. It saves you alot of money.
I didn't know that such talk was allowed on this forum >,>
Seriously don't do this,Sony will just update the system and block that stuff :/

Alright, Im not telling you how to get it hack or posting any links. Just like RPG Maker 2003, or 2000. But I'm saying most the people I know have it hacked. There are also risks with hacking it. You can't send it back for warranty. Also, Sony will update the system? Im sorry but the hacked PSP has been out for some many years already, they have not updated the system at all. They just came out with a new custom firmware edition. Also maybe hacked wasn't the best word rather, giving your PSP custom firmware. Anyway you can't really do it yourself, it's not like an iPod you need materials for it.
well, I got a hacky device for my ds, and as interesting as it is, I find always having to fiddle around with everything, and only have it work half the time to be a huge pain (or not be an authentic experience, like hpow for the longest time chrono trigger anf ffIII on SNES emulators didn't sound quite right) - kind of like PC gaming and all the patches, cracks and the like. I'm not sure if that's anything like how psp things are like, but I figured it would be a huge hassle.
Something like R4 cards?
Anyway, Sony updated the system a few times to block flashcards.
Does nobody ever update it? Meh...

Well, considering that you OWN an NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3, Gameboy, GBA and a DS, you probably don't need the hacks.
Only get custom firmware if theres games you want to play on the go, like Chrono Trigger or a PSOne Final Fantasy, or if you just don't want to pay for anymore PSP Games.
Brave Story was a cool little rpg for the PSP, theres also that new Crimson Gem game, Crisis Core if you have low standards for games.

I bought a PSP a few months ago, and I could never really dig the loud sound it made when it loads.
Also, the only reason to get a PSP you need is Final Fantasy Tactics.
Due to loading times and battery issues, I'm only downloading games of the PSN now. I hope when the PSP go gets released all Square Enix's game are available.

Overall, I enjoyed Crisis Core. It did have a few flaws, but they weren't (really) gamebreaking. It was a memorable experience for me. Also, I can't wait to get Dissidia and FFTactics.
I haven't touched my PSP in months, but it definitely has some good games. Oddly enough I enjoyed Legend of Heroes, and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is really relaxing to play before going to bed. My screen unfortunatley has a tiny little peck of a crack at the bottom, which really irks me when I play it.
PSP M33 Hack is great by my standards. P,ay PSX games along with PSP games. Also gsPSP which allows for GBA emulation. Im sure it can take other stuff. It's like all the classic games. I find it great. I mean every PSP console to come out has been hacked even the 3000. Soon the PSPGo will be broken. It's the nature of things. Just like every RPG Maker to date has been hacked. BEst games on there are Dissidia, Prinny: Can I really be the Hero? and games such as Monster Hunter and Warriors Orochi.
