Alright, but to be serious, yes, I don't like when the games look similar. Other than the ones who really don't care, no one would argue that they love games looking alike. But I find a few reasons why I still wouldn't mind people using rips or default graphics. For example, a first game would benefit more from just playing around with the program rather than focusing on graphics. A tech demo, especially of the battle system would be fine as default graphics or placeholder graphics, as the emphasis is on the gameplay there.

But if you want people to make custom graphics for their games, you have to remember that a lot of people don't finish their games or get past demo state in the first place. Making custom graphics on top of that isn't going to help. People, with the real rare exception of a skilled artist suddenly joining the game making scene, will not be able to produce pro style graphics when they start. They should be encouraged, given CONSTRUCTIVE cricitism, not mocked for not being pro. I would like more people to make custom graphics for their games, but if they're just going to be picked out and insulted for it, then why would they bother? People have to start somewhere. I'd rather give advice for how people can improve and how to go about making the graphics they want to.

Also, custom graphics and gameplay are not mutually exclusive. Working on one doesn't mean you must ignore the other. I've played boring games that have really beautiful graphics, and I felt no urge to continue. Graphics are not a replacement for fun, but they could really help define your world, make it stand out, have a unique atmosphere, and be able to use the ideas for which sometimes their doesn't exist a current graphic of. Like different settings.
RTP is sterile-looking. I will critique custom graphics if it imitates anime and ends up looking like RTP. How about we stop copying anime and try to develop our own styles? That last screenshot that you posted is definitely not ugly, but it is unoriginal, and anime style. The facesets are a huge giveaway.

The creativity comes more with experience. Once they have more experience making the graphics, then they could more easily have control over exactly how they want it to look like. Learning various styles help you better define your own, and you have to start somewhere.

The facesets are free graphics by Gozaru for indie game makers. I'm not going to complain on that one and instead be grateful to the author.

Style is something that comes to you after having so many experience in different art forms. Also what exactly do you meant by anime, anime is animation unless you meant the japanese style with huge eyes for facesets

Anime is anime. It is an artstyle. Stop nitpicking. That style looks highly anime-ish, but it still looks nice. Show me the characters, and I'll tell you for sure. I believe that game makers on RMN and GamingW do not even dabble or attempt to create an original style for their games. Outside the, uh, "art form" of anime.

"Hey, here's my game, Final Fantasy 7 remake 1,000,000!"

"Hey, here's my game, Tales of Delatia."

"Hey, here's my game, Terra Saga X."

I guess the unoriginal, cliche, overused artstyle(s) matches the unoriginal, cliche, overused names of games.

Oh Jesus Christ, it's that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles artstyle. It's like cabbage patch kids mixed with Lucky Star.

I don't want realism. How about more cartoon-ish graphics? Like, uh, Mario, Earthbound, Kirby, or as opposed to copying things, you can make your own artstyle. You could make it look like anything. I mean, seriously, there's an infinite amount of styles someone could develop.

Also, why does my argument translate to you asking me to draw what i critique? Does a movie critic make movies? Does a game critic make games? Does an art critic draw? We all have a license to critique. What is a "Kinetic Cipher"? Seriously, it sounds like nothing.

Yes, drawing huge-eyed freaks with no other features on their face makes your game creepy and ugly. Those charsets are okay, though. I think they should dabble more in the cabbage patch kids style than anime, though.

Because you're demanding something without knowing any knowledge about it's process such as make your own style from the very beginning. It doesn't work like that, that's why I'm saying you try it yourself and then tell us if it's as easy as how you make it seem and how fast do you think someone would get to that point of making their own style. Not everybody likes cartoons.

Anime is a cartoon. You watch anime. You play anime video games. You eat pocky. Not everybody likes this Japanese animation that has become a cabbage patch/anime artstyle. I wouldn't want to use a main hero that looks like he was plucked out of a garden filled with cabbage.
The mana artist is commendable for pixel art not art style, \which is why you fail. That's why I even included the map AND charsets. This is judging from the list of links you gave us.

Because that's the artstyle that pursued them to start drawing simple as that.

You gave no points. You were whining about how I do not like unoriginal game art and style. They sort of hand-in-hand. I must admit. I do have a bit of a soft spot for games that are completely in RM2k RTP. Such as Romancing Walker and Bob's Big Adventure. The thing is, that those games are so old, that it's acceptable.
