Unedited RTP? My eeeyeeeess!
I could point out many things wrong with that map but that's not the point. It's easy enough to make one cool town with RTP but when you have to make 10 it becomes a bit of a challenge.
Because it's so much easier to make 10 custom tile sets.
Who said it would be easier? Making a game isn't easy. Nobody expects you to have full custom chip sets but you could atleast try to improve by mixing tiles or something.

I did. I'm not a pixelist, either.

best post in the topic, but I think that RTP can be used impressively and look great. It can be repetitive if all games used it, but... most games here DON'T use it, so it looks good. (Thus Rudra = bleh.)
from AznChipmunkIt's almost like...overuse of any graphics makes games look samey! What a shock!

RTP tends to get a really bad rep because it's the one graphics set that every RM* user has access to, and it's also the most likely thing a newbie is going to turn to for their frrst epik gmae. Does that mean they're bad graphics? No. Does that mean you can't make a good game with them? Again, no. Does that mean there will be certain stigmas attached to the game, along with a potentially non-plussed audience? Sadly, yes.
You can use them if you want, but there are always going to be people who complain about it or ignore your game because of it.
