post=114332Makes more sense to me. That is because I think that gameplay is the most important thing in a game. And second to it has to be graphics and music because without it the game is only goign to be 1 and zeroes and nothing else. I think the setting, story and the character can't be built around everything else.
To be fair, I think a game should have their priorities as:Gameplay > (Graphics + Music) > (Story + Setting + Characters)
Karsuman and I develop the game's setting, basic plot and themes before the gameplay. That way, we can better integrate those into the gameplay, whether it be via name (Marlowe's passive skill "Things I Have Seen") or actual effect (purposefully making the ability to revive rare and costly (feats gogogogo) so that the player was forced to rest at the Ogre's Mug more often).
I develop the game's setting, basic plot and themes after the gameplay. That way, I can better integrate those into the gameplay. That is, if the game I'm making even has a story.
I come up with a plot, then design the gameplay and then write the specifics of the story. I usually write the dialogue on the fly.
I only did that one time and it ended with a finished demo. Now that I know way more English than before i should try to do that again.
I would say VX. The way it seems is that if you're aiming for a Dragon Warrior NES style game, then you're better off. Think about it. Generally in VX the characters take up exactly a tile (well, pretty much). That seems to be exactly like an old NES game, if I'm not mistaken. There are scripts in VX that allow for infinite tilesets, so don't worry about that. And about the whole form and arrangement of the tilesets in VX, don't bother with that either. Just make a tileset from scratch, unless, you don't want to. In that case, it's fine, it's just that's what I do.
