This type of thread is timeless. The alternative is to make a new thread about the same thing every few months.
That said, Legacies of Dondoran and Hero's Realm are two exceptional games. Ara Fell was the first RPG Maker game I ever played. Or was it Final Fantasy : Endless Nova? I don't remember which was first.
Mind you, I haven't played that many :| I promise to when I finish up some lingering IRL shit.

Ara Fell was actually the first 2k3 game I played too. The first general RPG maker game I played was KNight Blade: Howling of Kerberos. Loved every second of that thing.
Now I think my list includes Alter Aila Genesis, Legend of the Philosopher's Stone, Omega Cerberus and The Heirs of Techatl.

That Hellion caught my eye. Must check it out!
Romancing Walker popped up in my head. I remember thinking it was one of the better. Also I remember Kindred Saga being really mindblowing when I first got to play it. Oh yea and what was that basketball game?? Can't... remember...the name.
EDIT; I completely forgot! Yume Nikki is among my favourites. I also really like this one age-old game from Don's board that was sorta like Kid Icarus except with a demon. It was a side-scroller made in rm2k where you'd be flying around and shooting some critters with different guns.

I love me some Alter A.I.L.A genesis and the original too. I also like Final Fallacy an old rm2k game that was on the old Gamingw website.
Starless Umbra. The long demo that used to be available some time ago is still the only long RM game I actually played to the end! :o

Posting just to say Exit Fate.
Last Scenario is also great. SCF's shump/Touhou clone is pretty nifty too, but not as wonderful as LS/EF.

but seriously if you guys don't download LS/EF and play them right now, you're seriously missing out. They're free, lengthy and unique.

I have been meaning to go back and try Exit Fate again at some point. I broke the game early on, preventing me from progressing, decided I would start over in the morning but never got around to it.

I'm gonna go ahead and say for a second time: Exit Fate, lol sure it may have elements from the Suikoden games such as the many..many.."MANY" recruitable characters, but it's just so friggin' awesome at its core, that it should've just been called Epic Fate~ xD

Barkley, Shut up and Jam: Gaiden (Part 1) :) I like the game, though I don't really love it.
Exit Fate and Last Scenario are clearly some of the best English RPG Maker RPGs in recent times. They got the difficulty, challenge, and great gameplay. Good stories as well.
There are so many more enjoyable ones that I've played, but I don't wanna mention them all over again...A few of them worth mentioning, though, are Dhux's Scar, Romancing Walker and a few of the best Japanese RPG Maker RPGs out there, namely Seraphic Blue and Nocturne Rebirth (not only for the gameplay, but the stories as well).
Oh, and not forgetting Alter Aila (original and Genesis).

I always really enjoyed Wilfred the Hero. The art stuck out really well and the combat was exciting. It really nailed a quirky, oddball story about frogs and a bunny and a hero... like an RPG Maker Earthbound.
