IN REGARDS TO THE SCREENSHOTS TOPICS

It's more on the douchebags that couldn't bear to ignore AFD, Mary.

WIP has made it clear in the past that I am supposed to write reviews and nothing else. The occasions where I made announcements about things such as Release Something or the Screenshot Repository were technically me over-stepping my boundaries as a staff member. As far as the site goes I have no real power, influence or authority, and considering I've only been here a few months I am not going to pretend anyone knows me, trusts me, or cares what I have to say.
This can't change over time, though, as you prove yourself more and more capable and familiar with the site, how its run, and the community? Is this a forever static thing?
Nothing is ever completely set in stone.
While I disagree with his decision to close the thread and everything, he does have a point. I remember him saying something about "I'm going to upload a screenshot something to replace this with so people don't have to make threads about it" long before they even created the last thread.
I actually enjoy long chain of discussions about something if there's more than just me who have ideas about a single thing. But it would be better to have a two-dimensional thread where just the screenshot is in the backbone and each individual line of discussion is sorted by the screenshot in question.
But what about actual videos? Those are kind of good for showing people what stuff looks like when it is actually running so we don't have to release a demo that can barely stand up and pray the user gets to the part you want them to see?

I was going to post a heartfelt defense of the screenshots topic but then about halfway through I realised that I was wrong and the screenshot topic is pretty useless for anything other than me yelling at geodude about trains or whatever! I am pretty sure I am one of a handful of people who actually attempt to offer meaningful critique, but let's not get into that. *whistles innocently*
If only there was some way to have a screenshot topic where only, like, five people could post and I could look at their games specifically. IF ONLY THAT WAS A POSSIBILITY...

If I were going to release a video, I'd make a blog post with <youtube> tags - that way people can see it and comment on it AND it'd be associated with my gameprofile. Win win win.
I will probably try to get the video stuff integrated back into the site so it hooks into the new repository system.

That's what I ended up doing.
Frankly I've seen no use for screenshot topics, really. I maps blow. I know it. They're not the strong point of my game, there isn't much point to showing them off. Some people get off on that kind of thing, and that's their business, but if all the topic will become is a derailled flamefest everytime, WIP is right to have done something about it.
Besides, a screenshot system built into the site away from the forum is a much more... 'refreshing?' idea. I think anyway.
