THE FINAL FANTASY XIII TOPIC

I cannot wait until the day this comes out and all the skeptics completely change their mind about the game and don't base what they've heard off of amazon.jp reviews (the same people who raided Dragon Quest 9, they are literally scum).

If anything you will check the game out because of what it does different. It does a lot different. And this is a good thing.

this is hilarious

I hate change.

Who doesn't? I'd much prefer the old, turn-based battle system than FF13's new battle system (or god forbid, that atrocity of battle system FF12 has... >.> )

I'm gonna beat you up rockman, then we'll see what's really funny.

I've been reading some reviews, and most are stating the linearity of the game being the main issue - the lack of villages, npcs, and minigames.

While I enjoy those bits in RPGs too, especially in the likes of such as Suikoden for example, linearity isn't necessarily a bad thing, if the story is epic and draws you in - which is what most of the FF 13 reviews have been stating, too.

Many reviews stated that FF 13 is far better if it's considered as other type of game, than traditional RPG. Some also pointed out it's pretty much dungeon crawler-like as most of the gameplay just takes place in dungeons, with only story bits in between.

It doesn't make me think it's going to be bad game, still - just different, once again.

The reviews also promise 60-80 hours of main story line + 64 optional missions. They're also stating that the game does get a bit less linear in midway point, while it's still supposed be more epic story-wise on the second half. Now that doesn't really sound so bad.

A final, hopefully illustrative comparison: FFXIII is sort of like that really hot chick with the amazing body who may be fun to hang around but doesn't grow on you that much. Infinite Space, 2009's best original RPG by my count, is like the awkward girl with the thick glasses and bad skin. She's got a chip on her shoulder and you have to get over your initial impression, but once you do, you realize that she's the coolest and most interesting person you've ever met, and ultimately she becomes not just a potential conquest but a lifelong friend.
Can't wait till this comes out, because unlike some people I wasn't expecting this game to be the best in the series so I don't mind.
The story looks quite gay to be honest though but the battle system looks superb and I'm gonna look forward to playing as a female main character for once!

I'm getting this on 360 unfortunately I just hope the graphics don't turn out terrible, because if they do I'm gonna cry.
For those that haven't seen this yet, this here is the DRAMATIC FF13 TRAILER

The plot of Final Fantasy XIII, taking place in a world known as Pulse, revolves around the fal'Cie, mechanical beings of godlike power created from crystals residing inside them. People who are marked by the fal'Cie for greater purposes are called l'Cie. Each l'Cie has a Focus, a goal the fal'Cie wants him or her to fulfill within a certain amount of time; however, the fal'Cie do not explicitly say what the goal is. L'Cie gain the ability to summon Eidolons, but this ability comes with a price: if a l'Cie dies before completing his or her Focus, fails to tame his or her Eidolon, or fails to complete his or her Focus within a set period of time, he or she becomes a monster known as a Cie Corpse. If a l'Cie does complete his or her Focus, the reward is not much better: permanent transformation into a crystal. For this reason, being chosen as a l'Cie is seen as a curse.

Some 1,300 years ago, a fal'Cie named Orphan constructed a paradise for humanity: the shell-like city of Cocoon, which floats high above the surface of Pulse. Then Orphan created life forms and machines for Cocoon's inhabitants to use, and humanity flourished. Over time, after disaster destroyed Oerba Village and wiped out its residents, the people of Cocoon began to fear for the safety of their world, worrying that it would be cast down from the sky into the hell that they saw Pulse to be.

Although most Cocoon citizens have never seen Pulse with their own eyes, they have been told that it is a dangerous place that has strange effects on those who venture down to its surface. Consequently, anyone who is discovered to have visited Pulse is immediately subjected to quarantine and exile by the theocratic government of Cocoon, known as the Sanctum. The Sanctum enforces this policy with its strongest military branch, which is called PSICOM.

As Snow leads the resistance group Team Nora in an attempt to stop the purging of civilians, the mysterious Lightning fights her way past PSICOM soldiers with the aid of Sazh to find a Pulse fal'Cie, Anima, who turned her sister, Serah (who is also Snow's fiancée), into a l'Cie. Through a chain of events, these three, along with two exiles, Vanille and Hope, are forced by the fal'Cie of Pulse to become l'Cie, and with that become enemies of humanity with the Focus of bringing about the downfall of Orphan and Cocoon.

Thanks, I really hope Infinite Space actually comes to America. Sounds very interesting.

If anything you will check the game out because of what it does different. It does a lot different. And this is a good thing.

The only thing that looks different is the battle system; which is all fine and good if you want to stick an olive fork in your eye every time a cutscene pops up... Which would get painful after awhile I'd imagine.
I love the english trailer to XIII. The song is great, the voices are great... and it just gives me a very good feeling.

I've seen people say they were not going to buy the game because of that one song in the trailer. I have to question if they're sniffing glue, or at least SOME kind of drug. I know that we all have our own opinions, but that's just childish (I. M. O)

Oi. Also, can not wait for this game. Well... actually, yeah, I can, but still! I can't wait to get it.
ff13's battle system is pretty cool...and acrobatic :x
I don't know how anyone can stand that song.
It would have been epic if they composed another heavy metal song like otherworld.

The battle theme is the only good song in the whole games soundtrack... well and the chocobo theme.
But is it just me or does the battle theme really feel out of place...I don't know....to me it sounds more like a final boss theme or something.

I heard theres no victory fanfare T_T can someone conform this for me?
I love almost every song I've heard from XIII's soundtrack, especially the final boss theme (both of them) and...well, near all of the battle themes! That and the rest that I've heard, which haven't really been that much apart from those in actual gameplay videos.

I didn't really think that the battle theme WOULD be what it is, though. A very... epic song for regular enemy battles. I thought it'd be a boss or something, but I thought wrong!

And no, no victory fanfare.
no victory fanfare....

That freaking sucks the victory fanfare was cool couldn't they just put it after you killed a boss or something?

I don't mind change but they could have at least! put in the victory fanfare.
"You think if you die it's gonna be sugar candy and rainbows?"

Square was so right to bring a black character back into FF.
But c'mon man squares racist they made him a coward and he has a chicken living in his hair.
I definitely know ONE thing for sure. This FF has the most horrible names I have ever seen. It seems as if they found some random word generator and just ran with it :\

Having a signature is too mainstream. I'm not part of your system!

exactly what I was thinking
what are you talking about I want to name my son Hope -_- and my daughter vanilla -_-.

But seriously even if they are just code names they could have at least made them cool ones like Solid Snake or something not Snow.

After watching that trailer I really don't have any good expectations for the story at all(it doesn't even seem like a japanese game anymore) though the game play looks great to me still...I just hope it's as challenging as people say.
This is probably the best composer they've had. No victory fanfare kinda sucks but they've done a good job with tying environments together with music. For example, there are several open fields and wilderness areas that are based off of the main battle theme, but are very mellow and soothing. It's also probably the biggest soundtrack of the series (4 discs).

Here's some gameplay that isn't shit. This boss has a really high break percentage and it looks like that's the only way to kill it. He goes into battle in a defensive class (you'll see why when the monster attacks), and then switches to break the boss down and eventually attack.

also the game can't handle a monster that big so the camera angle is worse than the usual (which is still bad).
/\
I have no idea why but that just looks so boring to me.
I'm gonna stop looking at gameplay videos now there starting to feel boring.
Apart from reading the character names, I haven't seen ANYTHING about this game. Not even one gameplay trailer. I like to be surprised, rather then go in already knowing what to expect.
