I posted this suggestion on GW, but I'll post it here as well.

I think what heavily influenced the vote is, people are going to vote for what they know.
A random example:
Let's say 4 games are up for a certain category:
Game A
Game B
Game C
Game D
and let's say that Game C is the best game to ever grace the internet.
Now, let's take a random voter. This voter only visits one area of indie development, and has only heard of Game A. So chances are, they are going to vote for Game A, even though, if they knew more about Game C, they would prob vote for C.

One suggestion I could make, is to provide an example of the games that are nominated. So if the award is for graphics, link to a couple screenshots, or if it's for best demo/game, a link to the game. Perhaps have a field in the nominate category option to post a link to such things.
People are inherently lazy, but if you make it easy for them, they might actually take the time to look.

Not to discredit what won or anything, I personally have no complaints with the winners (besides being utterly surprised that Valdis Story didn't cream me in Original Graphics)

I support this (even if I don't take part in the Misaos anyways). All candidates for votes should have some sort of link available to the game so its easy for people to see what else is available if they don't know.

If this was available, feel free to throw potatoe bombs at my face until I scream in agony and die on account of how completely blind I am.
You know Volrath, I always tried to get you to post here when it was just blossoming. You shoulda given it a chance back then. :>

I'm proud that a lot more XP games got nominated and voted for. I don't like the accusations of Misao Rushing though. RMXP.org is a big community, and their one-sidedness is about as plain as white bread. But that comes with the territory of the Misao Awards. It's a shame that anyone had anything negative to say at all. But that's all behind us now.

Goal for next year's Misaos, have something worth nominating.

Everyone has good points. I'm split on it because:

1) 2006's misaos were so small. Only like 30-40 votes per category... this time around is was a lot more votes, which is a good thing, REGARDLESS of which community they belong too.

2) However, I strongly believed both Rise of the Third Power and Hero's Realm would sweep this year's misaos. They have far superior design than any XP games I've tried. Although admittedly, I've only dabbled in most of them... but really that's because only R3P and HR caught my attention enough to actually keep playing. R3P got shunned for the most part. And we all know why, no need to beat that dead horse.
Hero's Realm swept the categories it got nominated in... (3/3 baby!)

Rightly so. Balance, old-school, and customization was what your game was all about. LoD2's customization would rock you though!

R3P won nothing! It's like my favorite someone else's RM game.

Not true. It got Best Specific Cutscene for the assassination.
Was there even a Hero's Realm release this year?
Actually, there was a significant release. It just happened to have happened before the 2006 Misaos (which took place in June or something)

Blame WIP for doing the 2006 Misaos so late.
I think R3P did so poorly because...

A) I sort of said, "Here's some half finished game I gave up on! Have fun!", which doesn't exactly make people flock to it...

B) When I released, I went up against LotPS... so bad timing on my part.

C) The first dungeon is too long!

So I sort of shot myself in the foot. But thanks for the support, guys! I'm glad it was still appreciated, despite all that.

A long time. I believe kentona has some sort of a life and can't dedicate 50 hours a day to RM*. :<

BL: The dungeon was too long because you copied it from one of your other game's early dungeons that I am 99% sure was a mid-dungeon in AF2. =D

This is the sad truth.

I haven't worked on HR in earnest since June 2007. D: :'( :'( :'( :'(
I haven't worked on my game in months. This is due to family matters that i have had to deal with. Hopefully i can get something out by the next misao awards.
Sorry to hear about that.

Welcome back to the forums. :)
