MASS EFFECT 2

I especially like (as in, actually like, no sarcasm) that Shepard uses his hero status shamelessly as leverage in various conversations, no matter what way you've developed him personally. He's not insecure at all in his status and ability.
Zaeed: " I'll come with you, but how do you know I won't shoot you in the back?"
Shepard: "xfd u kiddin me"
Well, Liara was going on and on about the Shadow Broker when I offered her my sweet sweet, galaxy saving embrace, but Miranda and dat ass...

How could you cheat on your romantic intrest from the first ME, I'm appauled.

The choices in ME1 blew. Ashley Williams; a loud, obnoxious racist military woman, or Liara; who's genericness is matched only by her uninteresting dialogue. I liked Liara better in ME2 because she threatened to flay some guy. I like flaying.
Fun Fact: Liara's threat to that throw away character is exactly what Matriarch Benezia said to you in the first game before you fought her.
I think one of the things I like most about this game is that I 'feel' like a hero. It sounds corny, but it's actually one of the most immersive feelings ever. Both the male and female Shepard give off a very 'heroic' vibe and it's easy to give a shit about the game world and what's going on because the game does a very good job at it.
I could of articulated this way better than I did, but hey.

IMO the little background things are what makes this game so awesome. The adverts, the background conversations, all pure gold.

dat physically impossible ass
uh, not that this is integral to mass effect 2 or anything
I've only played a small amount so far, but the game is really good. I've been incredibly impressed. Garrus and Jack ftw. And Miranda. And Joker and Chakwas and Mordin are cool, too. Grunt was a cool idea... OKAY I JUST LOVE EVERYBODY
Mass effect 2 is a fantastic game. It's not much of an RPG and that's a shame, but I really couldn't care less about that if the game is THIS good.
I agree that details play a main role in ME2's awesomeness...they make you feel part of the game's world, not only someone who is watching space opera. Bioware is a master of this, no wonder their games are so popular, although Dragon Age was a big disappointment for me, but that's off-topic.
My favourite character was (in both episodes) Tali and it was nice to see that she finally got a romance option. I also liked the rest of the crew, they were all very good characters. Okay, I hated Jack from the moment I heard of her (and that was way before the game's release) but not because she was an unintresting character.
All in all, if ME2 won't be good enough for game of the year, then this will be the YEAR OF LEGENDS(c).
