TIPS ON HOW TO COMPRESS MUSIC FILES?

mp3? make it mono instead of stereo. halves your filesize, and most songs aren't adversely affected by it.
What I did was to reduce the bitrate to 64. It about halves the size of the file, with no big difference in quality. I used Audacity to do this.

if you think 64kbps has no audible loss in quality, you clearly do not have ears.
128kbps is the lowest i'd go. definitely go with mono if you don't require panned audio though.
Just use Ogg files, problem solved. a 64kbps ogg is the same quality as a 128 or higher kbps mp3. ok, so there's SLIGHT loss, but you will never notice it unless you use really good head/earphones
clearly misread the topic starter however
still thinking?
post=123610also try to think of a format that has consistency of timbre, low file size and supreme looping skills

Maybe I don't. But I keep comparing the 64 bit to the original, and there's close to no difference.
If you wanna check, see my game Marvel Brothel -.-

128kbps is horrible already...
Also upping the speed by like 50% and then slowing it down 50% in the RM editor seems to do well. Is there any downside to this trick?

It kind of makes the track sound fuzzy in my experience.

sound quality goes down the drain.
