OBAMA HATE TRENDS

post=125681post=125671I like Canada's system - We don't so much get a choice on who will be Prime Minister, but we do get to choose the level of support for each of our parties. Everyone votes on their local guy, which boosts support for that party - then depending on that influence the parties are assigned a number of seats in the House. The parties themselves get to elect who will lead them, and the party with the largest influence gets to have their leader be prime minister.
How is it that many other democratic countries have multiple parties splitting the vote? Canada has 4 (or 5, if you count the Green Party), Germany has around that many, etc etc... The USA seems to be an anomaly in this respect.
This - however - can backfire, as so many votes can go to the other parties, it can occur that all the other parties combined will have a greater influence than the ruling party, and if they can agree they can stop the Prime Minister's legislation.
Exactly what occurred just recently. Harpers minority government, aye? And then they called an election because they were getting stonewalled in parliament and unable to do anything - and the election resulted in a minority government again, but with a few more reps on the Harper (conservative) side.
There hasn't been a majority government in Canada for some time, sadly. What's SUPPOSED to happen is that only stuff that everyone can agree on gets passed, which would be pretty centrist in theory
In PRACTICE, however... Well, welcome to our hell, States.

My dad and my girlfriend really hate Obama...
I do not hate him so much, but I like him less than everyone else in my generation.
It is a slippery slope.

I will agree that special interest money has corrupted the US government in tremendous ways, and why we will never see universal health care.
If you really want to fix the US government, then the money needs to be removed.
post=125556post=123993Thought I'd weigh in. This stuck out to me. You made me think of george carlin. If I don't vote, I'm not responsible for putting that man in office. Fuck political process. Its a protest of how perverted the system has become, where you are left to choose between two candidates that have a few differing views, but sustain the same overall views and principals. Think Zeitgeist Addendum.
It's people like you that make Democracy not work. You have absolutely no right to complain at all if you do not vote.
George Carlin was the fucking shit, man. My hero.
Since we hopped on the healthcare topic, I just wanted to point out to our friends down south that Canada does not in fact operate on a socialist healthcare system. It is a public insurance option, which we like to call universal coverage. There is private insurance. We aren't socialists. The only difference between our healthcare and yours is that everyone here is insured, they cannot be denied coverage, and there is accountability. If someone was ever denied their universal insurance and died as a result, instead of having a private corporation getting away with murder, we would hold our provincial government(s) responsible (public insurance is administered on the provincial level). Additionally, people who make certain brackets of income (forget the specifics right now) or whom don't file their taxes, are billed for their health insurance.

My whole family HATES Obama, myself included, (not hate, but dislike) mainly due to the people he's been associating himself with. I don't remember too many names, but the guy who wants to sterilize everyone, the guy who wants animals to have lawyers, Hilary Clinton, they really make me question what he's thinking. But hey, I don't consider myself politically in-the-know, so I guess that says where I stand.

Maybe you should consider educating yourself before making judgments; stop watching Fox News while you're at it.

I don't understand this at all. "the guy who wants to sterilize everyone"? "the guy who wants animals to have lawyers"?
As for Hillary, well, I think she makes a good Secretary of State. It's a good role for her.

Also, the reason why people throw around the words communism and socialism like they throw around the words "dead babies" is because they don't exactly equal long-lasting, successful governments, though I'm not saying it can't be done. Venezuela is a prime example of what a system like that can do to a country, although that's probably less because they're socialist and more because their leader is a friggin' idiot.

Such failures go both ways.

Animal lawyer guy (what??) really sucks and Hilary Clinton is even worse (I was done with her for life after she backed Jack Thompson) but I think "sterilize everyone" guy (again, what???) might be onto something.

I'm sorry. These sound like slanted, biased pundit statements, and doing a quick google search, I'm right.
Moreover, shit like this doesn't solve issues or problems; they're designed for people who want to hate the candidate to hate the candidate, as opposed to hearing what they stand for. When you vote for a candidate for bullshit like this (Hi, I'm Scott Brown, and my stances are "Yay Trucks!" and "Baseball is cool!" Vote for me!), you get the bullshit representative. If people informed themselves of the issues and vote how they truly feel, then we wouldn't have the shit-style government we have.
Here's a big surprise: When government doesn't work, republicans win; since it's, y'know, their fucking platform.
I can get into a diatribe about what the word "socialist" really means in reference to Obama, but I think I'll refrain.

Yes, careless typing is funny; let's move on.

I agree, though at this point; it's all a wash until you get the business interest to stop funding these campaigns.
Gee Golly Jeepers, I might not hate the fact that Obama has a half man, half dog as a "lawyer guy" or anything(Seriously, who the hell are you talking about); but what happened to that whole "changing the game" schtick we heard so much about?
