Well, if Akuma truly does utterly suck--and he was the only character I was able to win with--then what the hell does that say about my ability, man? With fireball characters like Akuma, I can just flawlessly pull off a string of their attacks without usually ever missing a beat. I would love to improve, but I thought that I was pretty good already.

The same thing anyone else does when the reality of their mediocrity hits them like a brick wall; dust yourself off and start over. Compare your situation with how a college quarterback feels after he gets into the pros; "Whoops, I guess I can't trample over these guys like retarded children like I did in college!"
Besides, nobody is saying stop using Akuma. Hell, I can pull of a pretty good run with Dan of all people. If anything diversify, because you can only get so good at the overall game if you're only sufficient with one character. Just get better.
I'd be able to do this much more easily if had the money to drop for a 360/PS3. Guess until then, I'll have to employ the free-to-play games at Play-N-Trade.
Oh, something I randomly remembered. A couple of days ago when I was there was I randomly was able to beat some with Adon (chose to use him on a whim). All I did was randomly press buttons. I was like: "What the f*ck!? I don't even use Adon, man! How the hell did I do that?!"

Participating in tournaments and online mode works wonders. Just keep playing the game for months on end and you'll get better.

and you can still participate in offline tournaments to get better.
Well, that won't happen this summer (the Play-N-Trade thing). I'll be going back home for the Summer to work and there's no Play-N-Trade there. (Though, I will probably try and get an Xbox with my earnings)

Brought SSFIV on Monday and sold it for the same price by Friday. Did not like it at all.

Yeah, I've been hearing that Juri is cheap, to put it simply. Doesn't change the fact that she's crazy and sadistic and hot.
Funny thing is I don't fight with Akuma as much anymore. I've been improving with Makoto but she's still frickin' hard to win with against the computer (although, I can't beat anything above medium hard), and I've decided to use Adon of all people. >_____> Other than that, I use Dudley, Juri, and El Fuerte. Yes. I said El Fuerte.
Not sure if all of that explaining means much since I don't have Xbox Live and can't play against other people...

The whole "this characters cheap cuz blah blah" is just an excuse for people who suck at SF :V
Juri is beginner friendly but shes a character that has so much depth and mind games she can contend with any other character.
That is if you actually know how to play juri though.
Spamming windmill kicks is not playing juri.
