Reminder: this site does not condone piracy and talking about that shit is unwise.

Also of note: I got this yesterday and am not too far. UI is much improved over the crapfest D/P, though.

I just got it this morning. I can't wait to play it. Right now I have some work that I need to do, so far I like how the box art was lavish and pretty-looking. It's worth keeping.

this was one of the first things i noticed and appreciated- the use of the lower screen for relatively ALL menu functionality is a really nice change, and makes good use of the hardware capabilities.

Hell to the yes, touch screen FTW.

Also, GRS, I prefer the damage of attacks being based on whether the attack is special or physical, rather than just the type. It brings about greater customization of your poke'mon's attacks. Like, I have a Gengar on Diamond that has the move "Focus Blast". It's a special attack, but it's a fighting type (and fighting-type moves, if I remember correctly, were based on normal attack in the old formula). Gengar has excellent sp. attack. It also give me a way to take care of those pesky normal-type pkmn that Gengar's ghost-type moves can't affect.

WIP plays Poke'mon?! o_O

EDIT: I just got the Elite Four. Got my ass handed to me, though, once I realized I was under-leved I stopped trying. At least my Noctowl did hella great before going down. He took about 2 of Will's PKMN and 3 of Koga's PKMN before I lost.
Yeah, that's what I was saying and it's one of the improvements of DP over the last three gens. That it took until Gen4 to fix it is terrible and it shows the rate the Pokemon games are changing. Hell Gen1->2 was probably the biggest change of all of them (including in the department of actual bug testing and pretending to balance the game!)

I'm sorry but I really didn't like DP. It just didn't feel very good to me. It felt half-baked.

I am hoping they actually try to progress the game design in Gen5 but they won't.
Unfortunately as long as Pokemon sells like hotcakes I doubt they'll do much to change it. Why try out another money cow when the current one still gives you oodles of dough?

For content, here's a list of bugs (or terrible design) from the original Gen1:
Broken Loose
Leech Seed and Toxic went off the same damage calculator when they were stacked, making Leech Seed drain double the damage Toxic dealt and Toxic deal double the damage Leech Seed drained every time you reached the end of a turn.

Toxic turned into normal Poison if you switched out.

Critical Hits were based off of Speed, making fast sweepers do insane amounts of crits.

Instakill moves were also based off of Speed, making most of them totally useless because they were on slower dudes.

Due to a glitch, Focus Energy CUTS YOUR CRITICAL HIT RATE BY 75% instead of doubling it like it's SUPPOSED to do.

Criticals would ignore stat-ups from both parties rather than just the target. 3 Swords Dances would do more damage than a Critical, resulting in hilarious lucksacking scenarios.

Using Agility would completely negate the Speed loss from Paralysis. As in, Paralysis cuts your Speed in half, and Agility just gives you back your regular Speed stat and THEN doubles it. The same thing goes for Swords Dance/Burn.

If you were Frozen, you'd NEVER thaw unless somebody used a Fire move against you, or...

Haze would thaw out the enemy in addition to its intended effect.

You could use Counter on OHKO moves to instakill your enemies. You could also use Counter on a move that hit your Substitute.

Combine the previous Counter hilarity with the fact that it only works on Normal and Fighting attacks.

You had to save every time you wanted to switch Boxes.

EVERY attack in the game (except for Swift) had at least a 1/256 chance of missing.

Wrap, Bind, Fire Spin, and Clamp prevented the opponent from doing ANYTHING for 2-5 moves. Also, if you switched out while you were holding the enemy, they'll STILL be considered trapped during the switching turn.

Whirlwind and Roar didn't do anything in Versus. If the enemy stat-ups, you're fucked.

If you kill somebody with Hyper Beam you don't have to recharge.

You know how Rest restores status? You know how Burn lowers Attack and Paralysis lowers Speed? Well, if you use Rest, you get rid of the status, yeah, but your stats still stay lowered until you switch. There's a point where you just give up asking about these things.

Ghosts are immune to Struggle because the latter is Normal type instead of typeless.

If you hit with a super-effective move, the message that displays only reflects whether or not the move was super-effective against the enemy's SECOND type.

If you stat-upped too high your stat would roll over into hilariously low numbers.

Waking up from Sleep takes an entire turn all its own. Hope you like being put back to sleep, because you just announced to your enemy to do just that!

Substitutes don't protect you from Status. If somebody kills a Sub with Hyper Beam, they don't have to recharge. If somebody kills a Sub with Explosion or Selfdestruct, THEY DON'T DIE FROM USING IT.

If you use the move Substitute when you have exactly 25% HP left, you'll kill yourself.

Rage. Oh god, Rage. Damage from Rage increases, a level at a time, every time you take a hit. HOWEVER-- as soon as Rage connects, the user will stop obeying and be unable to use any other moves or switch out UNTIL IT DIES. Not just that, but it never loses any PP in Rage other than the initial 1. ON TOP OF THAT, if Rage ever misses, its accuracy becomes 1/256.

Mimic randomly mimics an enemy move. You can use this to have duplicate moves on your moveset.

Disable randomly disables an enemy move. It also builds the Rage counter.

If you use Bide, and the enemy uses a non-attacking move, it counts as if they used whatever they hit you with LAST TURN for Bide damage when you counter. This means that you can't always avoid getting countered by Bide.

Blizzard had 90% accuracy.

When a Pokémon's HP is 255 or 511 below its max HP, recovery moves will fail. Don't ask. Just don't.

Multi-hit moves use the same number for damage. If one hit criticals, they ALL will.

Alright, get this. Say if you use Fly or Dig and you go up high/dig underground-- but on the turn you're supposed to attack you fully paralyse or hit yourself due to confusion. You STAY IN HIGH/UNDERGROUND MODE UNTIL YOU SWITCH OUT OR USE THAT MOVE AGAIN. As in, the enemy will NEVER be able to hit you again unless they use Swift or you LET them hit you.

hahahahahahah the special stat

Not a finished list

hex values
Man, it is so relieving that they fixed all those gen 1 bugs.
Yeah, 1st gen is practically unplayable today.
Also the pokewalker's actually pretty neat. Went for a hike and got like 530 watts, then i fought a kangaskahn!
Also, Chuck's really pissing me off.

He was cake for me, I have a Noctowl (ie. Noctowl is flying type AND learns psychic moves; in other words, Noctowl is a fighting-poke'mon worst nightmare).

And that list is actually hilarious to read. XD

I'm kind of wondering why there isn't a 3D version of the actual pokemon game yet they're willing to risk making shitty 3D spinoffs. Hell I'm not sure why an MMO hasn't been made yet (Nintendo's internetphobia isn't THAT bad).

If that happened, I would jizz my pants.

There's been a few attempts; but they've been pretty bad. Part of the draw of Pokemon is that it's portable. A Pokemon MMO would work only if the creators would get serious about balancing the game. There's a lot of crap in Pokemon currently that isn't allowed in competitive play.

Colosseum was the only game in the franchise that I legitimately enjoyed as a game, as opposed to a platform on which to beat the snot out of friends.
I liked Pokemon XD, even if it was slower than the handhelds and whatnot. Double battles are IMO more interesting than singles and having the entire game use them was nice.
I can't find this answer online anywhere so maybe you guys can tell me. Can you In the new games. Battle Random actual people. Or is it the same lazy online as Dp? I love Pokemon I really do. However without being able to battle my team against others. All their is for this release is a ten year old quest, I have beaten many, many times. I may still get the game for the quest as it is a good one. I just can not get excited about what is for me a social game. When the is no way for me to play with other players.

I mean I remember when I got Platinum. I posted in the lets play together forum. For some battles, what I got was a bunch of my freind is borrowing my game. Or I traded it in, ect... I know Dp was not the best Pokemon quest. (That might be reserved for GS)

The bottom line is that there is no solid online battle component to Pokemon. Their needs to be leagues or something like battle.net. Something that lets me have a consistent reason to keep obsessing about my Pokemon.

Have you tried an actual Pokemon dedicated website? There are whole sites full of people just waiting to play. serebii.net has an entire chatroom devoted to it, and any other decent Pokemon site with a forum has a section for it. If you want to really get into it all, there's http://shoddybattle.com/ which is a Pokemon battle simulator that has a menu to find people ready to battle(also good for dream teams and such for lazy people like myself. Be aware though that there are a lot of competitive people and more rules than the normal game.)

As for the actual game, no they have not improved it, but I believe that the whole friend code thing is a security measure for little kids or something like that(how that works I'm not sure.)

And presuming you live in America(which I don't) there are tournaments every so often(once every year I think?) dotted around the place.
