I think games have certainly gotten prettier, but I don't think the RPGM scene is getting worse per say. There are still lots of cool and interesting games being made if you look hard enough. I like playing some of the more UTR/overlooked games personally, because they're usually (to me) more interesting than the hyped up ones.
Then again, I could have good taste and just so happened to have picked good games, or I'm too easily pleased. Either one works.

You know, back then I thought that was the coolest thing ever made in Rpgmaker. And then we eventually find out it was a giant mockup and he only had like, 1% of the battle system done and a handful of maps.
I also remember him flipping out at Brandon Abley for calling him a shit heel or something along the lines of that!

Does anybody remember when badluck had that website with the really cool side scrolling game where you played as a flying demon? Demon's Gate or something, I forgot what it was called. Does anybody have that?
