EDCHUY GAMEPLAY BLOG
Posts
I liked having some sort of a blog while I was doing the RS! X feedback. So I decided to create one dedicated to the games I have, am and will play. Unlike that project and other similar threads, I will pick and choose to play a game on a moment's notice. I invite anybody that has comments for this topic to do so freely.

During the last week, I had a chance to finish playing the demo of Legionwood 2:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/1417/
Dark Gaia has since taken it down, so my guess is I was one of the few lucky enough to play it. Too bad his fellow developers focused on his use of RM2k3 graphics on a RMVX, similar to the project that has become Craze's Diablocide X:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/1955/
The good news is DG is that even though L2 is on hold, L1 will be finished. I'll provide him some L2 demo feedback when I get a chance to replay it.

Last night I pretty much finished the demo, although I consider it a complete game (episode, anyway) that I completed late yesterday was Linkforce's Carpe Diem, Episode 1:

I still have a sidequest pending in the last town. I am thinking of writing a review for it, but I will have to play it again once I get a chance to do so.

Yesterday, I was also finally able to download completely the newest demo (now that it's hosted in MediaFire, 2shared sucks!) of dezz123's Faith :

However, since he wrote something about a patch to fix a few bug, I withholding playing it until it is issued.

I decided I'll be playing Deckiller's Carlsev Saga: Episode I:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/2023/
There were quite a few new recent releases to choose from, but the fact that it's a complete game and has political intrigue (hopefully reminiscent of Notes on the Second Mellynd War http://rpgmaker.net/games/837/ ), which is not a common thing seen in RPGs, won me over. Curiously, as I was writing this I got a PM from Deckiller himself since he wants me to provide some feedback, which I will happily provide most probably in the form of a review.

In addition to looking out for the patch to Faith, I look forward to the complete version of ShortStar's EpiQuest:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/1986/
It should be uploaded by tomorrow assuming there are no issues incorporating Craze's optional sidequest cave.

Thanks for looking forward! :-) It means a lot.
As for waiting for Craze. I am not waiting, if Craze or anyone else makes it, I will put it in the game for Version 2B or whatever :-)

I'm not sure I understand. So are you taking requests to play games or are you just keeping track of whatever games you decide to start playing? Also, will you be reviewing all of the games you play?

My guess is that you might be thinking that I would model this after MaxMcGee's playlist or Fallen-Griever's review thread. I'm not sure of their particulars, but I want to establish something of my own here.
For now, the thread will be for me and whoever is interested to keep track of whatever game I might be playing. Given that there's quite a few recent releases available now, I'll try working through them in an order determined by my particular interest in them.
There might a point in time that I don't see anything recent and worthy, so that I might ask people to offer their suggestions, especially if they would like somebody else to try their game and provide feedback on it.
I won't necessarily give a review to all I play, unless I think it merits one. I'll definitely try to provide some feedback to the developer otherwise as I did with RS! X.
It was quite a coincidence that Deckiller asked me to play his game, which I had already set my mind to do since last night. Also, given that he said that his game would take around 8 hours long, that ought to make it worthy of writing of review for. The first hour or so I have played so far makes me think this will be the case.
I hope this is clear enough.

I'm glad you like it so far! Feel free to message me at any time if you're stuck or if I somehow inserted a bug while tweaking, heh. I think it should be all set, since I had no issues on my LP run aside from some sprite changes.
Late last night, I finally finished playing: Deckiller's Carlsev Saga: Episode I. It took me about 10 gameplay hours according to the clock in the game. I will be writing over the weekend a review for this one!
I was hoping that the demo for Episode II would be out this weekend as well, but Deckiller let me know that its release will be postponed until next weekend. Since the patch for dezz123's Faith hasn't been posted yet, I'll continue to hold back playing that demo.
I will thus play the complete version of ShortStar's EpiQuest. I played the demo version a couple of week's ago. I would like to play it again, right from the star to see what kind of changes have been made. I suspect I will review this one as well.
Another complete game I have downloaded is mongoosezxc's Awesome Quest:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/1965/
I'm glad that quite a few complete games have been posted recently in RMN. Most of the time, it's mostly demos. Not that I have anything particular against demos, but most games get stuck on that status for a while.

Demos are usually all that a creator's attention span can muster before they either A) quit. B) have a new idea C) continue with life outside RPGM
This is excellent. This is what I meant Max McGee's playlist to be like, but I just haven't had the time.
The last thing ShortStar said is right. Shit, it's true for me and I'm one of the complete-game-makingest guys around.

I agree with this. Worse yet, are the project that are just vaporware. I would suggest developers read this article written by Neok to keep themselves interested/motivated:

Perhaps I'll eventually will do one for gameplayers as well, since they also give up easily! (Unless you are playing something like Zero's Impossible Fortress, which, by the way, I haven't even bothered to try.) It's crazy having people writing reviews of games that haven't exactly finished. I, for one, wouldn't do it.

Yeah, MM, thanks for the head up. Hopefully I will be able to refine this topic in time, but for now, it'll have to do. Glad you're in the completed games club. I think your issue might be managing too many projects at the same time. I imagine that, though, might be advantageous to not get bored on just developing one. Especially, having to playtest over and over your game must be somewhat of a chore. At least you can choose another project at any time. In addition to playing games made by others. I definitely respect developers who choose to give the light of day to try other people's work.
If they are not interested, then what they are doing is not interesting. RPG Maker is more like a game than a game. Like any game, you will get tired of it.
I have been played EpiQuest pretty much non-stop since the weekend. I never got inspired to write out the review for Carlsev Saga: Episode I, but I think tonight I need a little break from playing ...
Well that is a good sign you have been playing it since the weekend. Do you mean since the weekend as in Saturday or as in Monday? Everyone needs a break, otherwise their brain melts out their ears.
That would be Saturday. Writing a review is definitely more work than playing since it requires more concentration, but unlike playing you can really take your time to get it right.
