The reviews should explain why, if or why its not fun.

Yes, in theory but this topic is about creator intent and ambition, the review is (theoretically) about the finished product.

If someone has a REALLY FLAWED IDEA it's way better to find out now than at the review stage.

The problem with this is that just like trailers are better than movies, some games can sound good on paper and turn out awful due to bad design choices.

Hey CRAZE!

What kind of questions were you planning on asking?
My current project is fun, at least in my opinion, because of the following:
-Extreme character customization, you can choose which stats a character becomes good in, and what magic spells they learn. Built-in limits prevent powergaming by maxing out all stats.
-A snarky main hero that a lot of people should be able to relate to, and if not, his conversations and asides when examining things should make you chuckle, at least.
-Change party system allows you to switch in and out any of the 24 playable characters in the game. Choose the ones you like, or the ones you hate, or choose characters that hate eachother's guts and watch the shit hit the fan!
-Party banter system and interjections make sure that a player-selected party member will always have something to say. He may strike up a conversation with another party member, the main character, or even interject his opinion into dialogue the hero is having with an npc. This ensures character development beyond what is normally seen in an RPG with so many main characters.
-Huge world to explore.
-an epic "save the world" storyline, in a not so typical world.

There's probably more I can add, but I'm kind of sleepy, so I'll leave it at that.

I don't know... I would guess my games (in my own mind, mind you) are fun because it usually deals with a lot of twisting and turning that the player (normally just me) has to try and keep up with. I enjoy mystery books and military (so action I guess) books so I try to incorporate those things into all my games.

And just for you Chaos: I suppose WHY this makes my game fun is because if any of you have ever read a Tom Clancy or Hardy Boy (when you were younger or whatever) or have read Lord of the Rings and (obviously) watched FF7:AC, then your getting these four worlds mixed into one. Therefore, I am appealing to practically 4 different groups of people and am expecting these four different groups of people to be playing my games (yeah right, I can't even get them out onto the web half-way finished!).

I suppose another thing that would make my games fun is that there's always a good story plot... Not everything is going to be a good decision, whether you like it or not, you might have to sacrifice a hero you love just to save another one or just to continue on in the game (hey, its a life in that RM game of yours, don't forget that they have to make sacrifices too!)... But, other then that, I agree with Deckiller, fun is subject to each person, so its hard to say what group I would be appealing to apart from what I have already stated.

Can you choose character race, class, name or gender?

ehh, no.

Perhaps extreme may have been a bit too strong as a descriptor. The player is allowed to change statistics, and skillsets of the heroes to virtually anything they want, but name changing or race changing isn't possible, because these characters are all hardcoded into the storyline of the game. Perhaps I should reword it and say "as much customization as you could ever hope for in a game about a finite amount of set characters". But that really doesn't have the same ring to it, now does it?

Exactly the point I was making. : )

I would hope to at least be able to change a character's name even if there were a finite amount of them. (I'm not saying this should be a feature in every game.

So how about "some customization"? A "lot of customization" would be acceptable too.

Sorry, I'm pretty srs. bsns. about customization, bowb. : )
I guess Ebon Scape has three things going for it, Story, Graphics (I can map, yay!), and Music, though in midi form, the midi's really kick a$$. Though, I think the most important thing is story, which I think I put a HUGE amount of attention into, I only hope others think so.
