Yeah I'm not a big Star Wars fan either. I just like the look of that graphic, kinda enhances the map.
It's actually apart of that chipset.

I didn't even know it was from starwars until someone commented on it.

Not sure if you should submit the reviews to the site unless you play the complete game.

I think if something drives you to want to stop playing, that says something about the game.

I think as long as you are honest about when you quit and why, there is nothing wrong with this.

I think 2 hours should be more than enough to get a feel for how the game plays. If it takes longer than 2 hours for you to introduce the core mechanisms of the game, then you need to consider that you'll have a hard time grabbing the audience's attention.
I disagree. Several of my favorite games -- like Persona 2 or Shadow Hearts: Covenant (though they're not the only examples), had really slow starts. As I recall, it was close to or over 2 hours before you were allowed to do anything in Persona 4.

But like I said, I appreciate the review although it is incorrect. =D

I don't think there's anything wrong with submitting a review if you point out where and why you quit playing it. I do think that such reviews could go unrated so the actual feedback and criticism provide gain the relevance they deserve. It would be different if most of the game (let's say at least 60% of the game) had been played.

Being in a commercial game doesn't make it right. I like Persona 4, but I don't like it's start. If shit is long and not-gameplay, shit is shit.
Oh I agree with you, but my point was that if I had judged the game based on those two hours, I would've been severely missed informed, because once the plot picked up -- it got really good.

But that's the beauty of freeware games I suppose. Since you didn't buy them -- there's no reason to be patient with them force yourself to keep playing them, heh heh.

Agreed. Most commercial RPGs take more than 5 hours to fully reveal their systems and storyline. And Yeaster's right -- peoples' attention spans are far shorter for indie games.

Imagine if someone made the equivalent of FF13 in an RPG Maker program. Nobody would make it to the Vile Peaks.

I think reviews on incomplete playthroughs should be unrated, as edchuy said.

Why? If you didn't care enough to continue, isn't that an issue with the game?

I like the AT-AT graphic. (Or is that an AT-ST?)

it's an AT-AT from yoda stories iirc

i could go into detail as to how it can't really be an AT-AT but that is not for this topic

I think it depends. Perhaps this game just wasn't his type to begin with.

Personally, I felt that the plot moved at a quick enough pace -- but even so, there is still only so much you can reveal in two hours without the player feeling completely overwhelmed - especially for a game of this size.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If that's the case, then sure, it's a legitimate issue with the game. But if he's specifically decided beforehand that he's only going to review the first two hours, then that's different. I would not expect many modern games to fully reveal their systems in that amount of time. It's common and helpful to introduce things to the player gradually, both to prevent the flood of information from being overwhelming, and to ensure that the game continues to stay fresh as you play through it.
considering he kind of got stuck in one of my early minigames, I'll concede that I probably would have stopped playing if I'd been stuck there as well.
But had he not been stuck in the minigame, within the two hour limit, he'd have seen a number of the things he mentioned as being shitty about the battle system being remedied as the game went on (skills, magic eventually, extra PCs, etc). But, whatever.

I'm playing the games I review for a minimum of two hours. I don't suddenly look at the clock and think "well, I guess that's it." If it holds my interest, I keep playing, but if not, I don't force myself to keep going. The difference between modern and indie games in this regard is that if you buy a console game, you've already invested something in it and you feel an obligation to play it in order to get your money's worth. Additionally, they can usually make up for a lackluster beginning with attractive graphics or music. It's especially important for indie games to grab the player early on because there are hundreds of free games out there and if the player doesn't find the game to be worth their time, their attention will wander to one of the many other games out there.

Sai is at least two hours into my game right now (I think) AND he got stuck (which is a auto-rage-quit for a lot of people) but rather than clipping it there and writing a review he asked me how to proceed so I definitely feel like he is giving my game a fair shake.

Also I think 2 Hours is pretty reasonable amount of time to play something you're not enjoying (although maybe it should be a percentage rather than a flat rate, i.e. playing two hours of a five hour long game is more of a good faith effort than playing two hours of a thirty hour long game).

Aye, it makes sense. And I think most RPG Maker games are rather on the shorter end - Vindication is about the same length (and about the same density of cut scenes and special events) as the world of balance in Final Fantasy 6, but I understand that puts it in the minority. And even with how long my game is, 2 hours is plenty of time to get a feel for most of the major aspects of the game, though there are certainly twists later. I wouldn't have asked for a review of my game if I thought it was really going to be a problem.

Hey Sailerius, you still going? Reviewing games for poor shmucks like me was really cool and I'm hoping this didn't dry up!
