E3 2010
Posts
The more and more I read up or hear about the 3DS the more I want to buy that thing.. Dammit Nintendo and your really awesome press conference and annnounced remakes/games. Also that Metroid looked fucken amazing!
Yeah at first I though the 3DS would be just a waste of time, but it looks damn awesome. It'll be on my E3 2010 wish list, along with Golden Sun 3, Epic Mickey, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Space 2 amongst others (Mostly Sequels). Too bad I'll need cash for this and I won't have any for a while...
post=144560I haven't read anything on it. What makes it so special?

uhhh, it's got 3D without need for glasses, three cameras (one to face you, and two on the back to take 3d pictures) and one hell of a lineup consisting of about 70 games - not least of which is a new kid icarus game. Literally everyone is going to be om this platform.
Now that another year of E3 is at its end I would like to know what the big idea is regarding this

o_O
Please tell me it's a video game related to the franchise...please...
No, that door led to a trash disposal room. Dr. Andonuts and the Mother series are a waste and have been disposed of.
R.I.P
R.I.P
I wish they would stop teasing us about the mother games. It was probably just a room where the staff could go for whatever reason. there was probably a bunch of them littered about, given nintendo-related names, and Dr. Andonuts was one of them.
ANYWAY
I got a rom of the Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light and was playing it on my DS. These are my impressions so far.
The graphics are better than FFIV or at least on par - it's hard to say because the aesthetic is different. Everything feels a bit more fleshed out that all the stuff in FFIII. Lots of solid colours, a story book feel. The fields of wheat looked really neat. I couldn't tell much about the battles.
Sound: It certainly did capture the old school feel. If anyone listened to the BGMs in the japanese site, the in-game music is of sliiiiightly lower quality than the 8-bit sounding ones presented there, but you'd only notice if you were only just recently heard them. The music is very soothing, calm, and nostalgic, like something you'd hear in a nostalig movie about pris or something. sounds accordion like i guess?
oldschoolness - this does indeed seem to harken back to the final fantasies of old. You even start the game being woken up by your mom. You aren't blasted by any fmv's or cutscenes of any kind as you begin your game. You're just going around town, talking to people. (not that I could understand them, since it was in japanese)
other than that, i couldn't tell you much. I think it's got some copyright protection, making it so you can't load saves, and it locks up in some places. I'll be looking forward to it in october, anyway.
EDIT: I forgot to mention - The inventory system is much like earthbound as far as I can tell. Each thingy takes up one spot. even individual potions. and each character has their own inventory. Also, kind of like the first saga games.
Also, when you die in battle, your ghost flies up and away. it's adorable. Not sure the punishment behind death, since you show up back in town.
Saves are handled through some wandering adventurer - I don't think you can save on the overworld. I haven't noticed any quicksaves.
I managed to find a) walkthrough b) stuff to make the game work + have english menus. I just want to see what it's like a bit before it comes. I'm totally stoked for its arrival - can't wait to buy it.

I find it kinda weird that Microsoft's "Kinect" and Sony's "Move" are already being advertised on this site, and they were just announced 3-4 days ago. Quite the big risk Sony and Microsoft are making.

Might just save my views on modern gaming. Only because its based on Journey to the West. Can't figure out why they didn't name the main character Son Goku. Probably the Dragon Ball references that would have been made.

I've been secretly excited for this, looks like a fast paced GoW. It's made by the same people behind madworld and bayonetta, the strangest thing about this game is the lack of weirdness Platinum Games tend to do.
You know, as much as I think games have passed some point of no-return in terms of genuine greatness over high production values, every year or two I'll see something or some games that look genuinely interesting and it pulls me back in again.
To be fair, usually by the time they come out I'm not as enamored with them, but I still have some faith that games will still be around for a long time, and more importantly, will still be compelling and relevant.
