DISCUSSION ISN'T DRAMA.

About this game profile thing... maybe people aren't subscribing to many games anymore? Maybe we should make a "subcribe to any game you have the slightlest interest in" campaign?

This is what I do anyway, though it gets kind of out of hand. My "Notices" flashes like mad.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If someone gets offended by someone else, there's roughly a 99.9% chance that the person who feels offended is in the wrong.
Yeah, now go try it out in a bar.

In the interest of self-preservation I would probably not tout my ideals in a situation where I am likely to get the shit beaten out of me.

I don't believe in pulling punches with criticism and prefer to be honest but there is a difference with being too harsh.

Yeah, this. I don't feel the need to babysit my comments. I usually just comment whatever I think on screenshots and stuff, not every comment should be some wealthy paragraph of info where every complaint is elaborated. let me browse in peace!

I like drama. I like discussion. I love constructive criticism. That's what makes me love this site so much- I don't have to wade through 'OMGGEEESSS' as much compared to my old haunts, things are more direct. I know I've got a long way to go improvement-wise and discussion, I think, makes me acknowledge where I can improve.

I don't know where you pulled this statistic from, but you're completely wrong. If I get offended by some asshole's comment, it doesn't automatically (as you suggest) mean I'm in the wrong. His comment could have very well been uncalled for, nonconstructive, or straight-up douchebaggery. A direct comment doesn't mean it's a good comment. (By good, I mean that it pointed out an actual issue and was constructive about it).

Blending the forums with game profiles seems completely backwards to me. The forums are not game profiles, and the game profiles are not forum topics. Putting them together would be counter-intuitive. The thing you described, hali, is pretty much what happens already. They just have to click a different link. The one that says Games. I am not sure how more intuitive than that you can get.

The issue is more about the usability of the game profiles, rather than where they exist.

But that's the thing, WIP. They don't click that link. They click the one for the forums. We can be unhappy that they do this and wish it were different, or we could take it into consideration and put things where they're more likely to be found.
I haven't really had that problem, hali. I feel as though my gamepage gets most of the attention I want it to, and I feel that I haven't really been neglected other gamepages as well. I don't feel as the forums are a BRAINWASHING FACTOR that somehow mutually excludes me enjoying both aspects of the site. Sure, more ideas to make gamepages more central is cool, but blending the forums and the gamepages doesn't seem necessary. I like both. Separately.

Yes they do click that link, hali. The game section on the site gets over three times the views as the forums do.

Oh. What you said before didn't seem to suggest that, but I'll take your word for it.
RMN Game page views for Eden Legacy 1 = 19911
RPG Revolution Forum views for Eden Legacy1 = 815

RMN views for deluxe edition = 4895
RPG revolution forum views for deluxe = 873

Looking at these stats I'd hafta say the game pages are by far accomplishing their goal, and I'm guessing you're all having similar results.

I thought this was about comments and discussion, not view count. But yeah.
Honestly making your game/gamepage/blog/whatever interesting enough to get comments and discussion is the responsibility of the gamemaker. As the statistics show, the views and exposure is there; but the author of the work needs to cultivate user discussion and participation on his own. I put a lot of work and thought into inviting people to discuss and comment on my game and on my blog, and I think it pays off; I'm very satisfied with the user discussion my page gets. I always encourage everyone else to do so as well, it's not hard, it just takes a bit of effort.

Prolly, I wasn't paying 100% attention, but they are directly related.

My thoughts on discussion on game profiles is almost purely about the visual design on them. They work pretty much just like a forum topic when it comes to discussion. They even look the exact same, when you look at the profile comments vs. a forum topic.

The distinction between game profile and forum topic will continue to grow larger and more apparent.
The way comments are integrated into gameprofiles is a million times better then expecting people to post feedback inside of a forum topic buried in page 4 of Game Discussion. The problem with most games not getting much feedback or discussion is because there's a set of "regulars" here who are actually somewhat active and all have accounts, but are either game developers or just hang out on the forum for the most part, and then a smaller set of people who actually play and comment on games, or for that matter pay any attention to gameprofiles that aren't theirs at all. It's more of a general person who stumbles across here's apathy to signing up for an account and participating in commenting on and reviewing games that seems to cause a lack of discussion. I guess the player base that is attracted to here just isn't big on doing anything but playing?

Also, to tie this into the topic more, the only drama that happens is caused by that subset of users that are active on the forums, because the people that are active on the rest of the site aren't very active aren't active enough for drama.
