CONTROVERSY: WHICH FF GAME RUINED THE SERIES?
Posts
On the other hand, I am psyched for FF: The 4 Heroes of Light which comes out Oct 5.
I am going to ask for it and DQ IX for xmas...
...even though I already have 16 DS games, 11 of which I haven't even played yet.

Square ruined Final Fantasy for me by making the online MMORPG a numbered game. I'm not sure why this bugs me so much, but FFXI always seemed like a spin-off of the main series, which has always been straight JRPGs. Now it feels like "oh hey, Final Fantasy 1-13 is great, except for 11 since I didn't pay 15 bucks a month or whatever."
post=153659post=153628They're not adjectives (descriptive words), they're nouns (names etc.)...post=153247Sadness. Though, the rule should be that I'm not allowed to *make up* adjectives...since that's what they did. It just didn't seem to make sense, to me, to make up words for terms that were already in use by the characters...but I digress on that.post=153237Because it sounds cooler?
The whole L'cie, Fal'cie thing...made no sense to me. If the words god/demigod/chosen/slave exists...why the need for fanciness? To make the same sound more grandiose and exotic than it is?
New rule: Kindredz isn't allowed to use adjectives for the rest of his life, except for articles. Let's see how he likes his boring, ugly world. >=|
EDIT:
Final Fantasy XII had a brilliant battle system. The "dimension" side of the battle system made it because it allowed proper use of tanks etc. (place mages behind the tanks, let them blast everything without taking damage).
EDIT2:
Actually, I supposetheysome of them could also be adjectives...
I see.

FF8 was alright. There were a lot of things I didn't dig about the narrative, and I didn't like the way they handled the characters, but to each their own.
Yeah. The characters were the fail of that game.

Haha, Final Fantasy is not ruined. Final Fantasy has remained as a well known series and the next official release will still sell shit loads of copies.
In that way, FF is like the X-Men comics of videogames. No matter the complete crap underneath, slap an X on the cover and it will sell.

Actually, they just slap wolverine on the cover. sometimes, they'll just slap wolverine on any ol' cover, even if it's nothing to do with the comic. IE: here.

Anyway, While I haven't played 13 or 11, and I'm not particulalrly fond of them, I don't believe the series is ruined.
Also, while I have not yet finished FFXII, it has become one of my favourites. (Although, to be fair, I got tired of being so underlevelled, so I used the henne mines trick to launch my party into the stratosphere)

Facts.
post=153085post=153079See, I think FF12 is a fun game with lots to do, a decent story enhanced by the game's permeating pretentiousness and great graphics.
FF12. Total garbage.
It was alright until I realised I was doing the same thing in battles after the first few hours. Got repetitive but stuck with it to the end because it wasn't too long anyway. I don't agree with the line of questioning from the OP. I hated FF VIII simply because it was a bore to play through, personal tastes I know, as others loved it.

I think this is pretty much the story of the series.
This is such a loaded question, but I'll humor it.
For me it is probably FF8. It isn't because the gameplay sucks, the characters are stock and the story is absolute nonsense, though that is all the case. It's because it feels like soulless hackery and is unengaging as all hell. They were so busy trying to make it saleable that they forgot to give it the tiniest bit of personality or character.
Ever since then the games seemed to fluctuate between abysmal storylines, characters or gameplay decisions, or some other weird garbage.
FF9 - Half-hearted attempt at bringing back the series to its roots. The skill mechanic is retarded and a waste of time.
FF10 - Some interesting mechanics but they forgot to make us care about the cast.
FF10-2 - Actually good gameplay. Too bad it is just a series of lesbian jokes.
FF12 - At least I can talk to people while grinding in WoW. Also the 'political' story just barely veils what is basically a less interesting version of FF4's COLLECT THE CRYSTALZ plot.
FF13 - I haven't played this but it looks to be more of the same horribly inane overly commercialized character cliches combined with half-baked gameplay concepts.

yeah i am still reading my way through this shit.
F-G: Do you not know how it works, or why it sucks? (Karsu would hate IPoP because it uses the same system...)
tardis: Galactic Interlopers make people sexy.

Maybe some of you have outgrown Final Fantasy. :\
In my humble opinion, none of the games are bad or "terrible" by any means, but I have grown to enjoy other things more... perhaps that's the case with some of you?

Learning skills by keeping on out-dated gear for a gazillion battles is not better than just learning generically by level up. Also, if you do grind skills at all, you will way overlevel.
Yep. Stupid.
