Don't you want your old pal DD back????

i dont get it what is going on
Do you you mean while playing the game or how I decide in advance which games I'm likely to like?
I intepreted this as "how can you tell WHEN YOUR OWN game is bad", which would be a useful and insightful topic of discussion.
I know a game is bad when I load a save game after a while and abso-freakin-lutely no idea wtf I am supposed to do next. And this is especially true when I have just started a game and 5 minutes into it, where the F* am I??
I know my game is bad. The question is how can I trick you suckers into playing it?

you know it's bad when there's no lighting effects or it uses RTP graphics

How do you tell if a game is bad?

If you made it.

But all joking aside, I know a game is bad if I'm not having any fun at all after wasting an hour of my life on it. If the game doesn't draw me in by that point, I'm done. With all due respect, this topic is very "meh" because of how SUPER subjective it is (beyond the obvious "shitty production values," etc.). A lot of games can be bad even to the majority of players, but a minority of players may still dig it, making it good.

Maybe if you defined what you mean by "bad" this discussion can actually go somewhere. Maybe.

That's a shame. Your game actually looked pretty cool.

Actually, watching players play your game, like watching them as they record their playthrough and state what they're thinking as they go in some kind of video watching game playing event, can work wonders on revealing whether your game is 'bad' or not.

It's very difficult for the creator to tell whether they've done something wrong because they're the one who made it and they only have their own perspective to work off of. To really see the flaws in something's design, you either need a very practiced eye, or a pair of someone else's.

For example, watching the first few LT's of YDS told me that 15+ minute intros REALLY SUCK. And slow walk speed REALLY SUCKS. And I'm pretty sure there's a topic buried somewhere in these forums about RPG Maker pet peeves like those. But such things can also reveal more complex problems like improper game balance.

That is indeed true, but here's where 'practiced eye' and 'uncommon sense' come into play. If something is designed poorly and the creator doesn't recognize it, it may only take one player noticing it for them to understand it's a problem. And if something comes up that the creator didn't think needed fixed, they can evaluate why it is they made this choice in the first place and act accordingly. You don't need a mountain of opinions to improve a game's design. Oh, it surely helps, but even one little gripe can make a big difference for other players.
Yeah I guess so....

For me I judge games simply by two things:

Gameplay: not fancy scripts e.t.c but generaly is it enjoyable? will I come back from school tommorow and play it? Also dose the gameplay or style compliment the plot or general game? e.g it would suck playing a game with a good battle system, well thought out level design ( the works ) only to reach the end and the boss monsters a joke or to begin the first level and die hopelessly from a bumble bee sting -_-

Story: For an rpg game this is important ( unless we're talking wrpg's then gameplay's the main thing ).
If I feel like the dialoge is weak, the characters are unreal and *the plot is sooo ripped thats a big -.
( *unless it's suposed to be a fan game then the plot can be ripped )

But then again we're all learning so I try not to judge rpg maker games since if it's not that great most likely it was made by a newbie. Everyone needs to start somewhere. I however use this to harshly judge commercial games since those guys are supposed to be proz and especially because I've spent money on a game that I'm very harsh towards them, if games where all free or indie I won't even complain nor judge.
