FOUR HEROES OF LIGHT ~ IN SOVIET RUSSIA, BATTLES TARGET YOU

I just got the game and its awesome. it took a little getting used to b/c its kinda different from the other FF DS games.
One thing that irritates me though is that you cant select the attack target.
Selection doesn't matter; auto-targeting just makes the game faster. The crowns are pretty brilliantly designed to make you not even notice the lack of auto-target.
The only thing I think would make this game better would be a guard option that doesn't require AP instead of using boost to get more.
Natook
Boost = Guard
it halves damage and is always the first action taken in a round
it says this in the manual

This is incorrect. I always read the manual.

sometimes I read the SimCity 4 manual to put myself to sleep :<

I loved the Baldur's Gate manual, and the ones for Command & Conquer. Oh, and Dragon Warrior's manual was epic! It even had a Saga in it.
<Yunita> Even as an animal, you still know how to strut, don't you, Jusqua? You're the cock of the walk!

I am utterly in love with this game. I am currently near the end of it, unfortunately. I find it so funny how they call this a "gaiden" game because it feels more like "Final Fantasy" to me than X, X-2, XI, XII, XIII, XIII: Emo Spin Off, XIV.
The only time when I had an issue with auto-target is when my characters have a status disorder and I feel as though PETRIFY is a priority over poison, but the expensive general remedy will go towards the poisoned character instead. Other than that, never been an issue. I think they could have just made auto-targetting an option like auto-battle.
Other than that, I love everything about this game. The mechanics are simple, but very fun. I usually hate dungeons and battles, but I never felt like the battle system in this game was a chore. Not once. I actually prefer this game to Dragon Quest IX (which did feel like a massive chore towards the end of the game).
I also don't really like the complaints that people have on the graphics. I think it is very cute and it has a refreshing style. Maybe because I hate belt-buckle-zippers.

The autotartget does come in handy though. i especially like that Cure spells auto select the char w/ the lowest HP. i think my fav part of this game so far is how sometimes the characters will attack at the same time.
I almost had a heart attack when my wife accidentally knnocked a game over in the local HVM and when i picked it up and it turned out to be this game.
I was like ( ;_;) I have no moneeeeeey

Well, I could play this game, or I could play one of the 1000+ re-releases of FFI-VI and be treated to a time when Square actually had to put effort in their games to get people to buy them.
I think the game tries too hard to be old-school... if I wanted to play a classic JRPG, I'd just go and get one from the time period when they were released.
And the auto-target is bullshit.

things i hate in videogames:
1. here's all your party members *takes them away from you for 10 hours*
2. never having any clue what the fuck to do or where the fuck to go
yeah checking gamefaqs every 3 seconds to find out what to do is not fun
props to those who can decipher this game's "directions"
square-enix is staffed by retards, clearly

post=212502i know what a load of unreasonable shit, i can't believe the game would assume i would want to cast cure on the party member with the least hp

post=212503Sometimes you want to heal the main damage-dealer more than the wimp you made poor design choices on. Works like a charm.

Unless they take away the choices... sigh...
I only got lost once, and then I felt really stupid when I realized what I needed to do because everybody was telling me to do it.
4HoL is a game where you're supposed to talk to NPCs, the fox, and your party members! They will tell you where you need to go! It's like the games the era is based on, except with your party members conveniently hanging around to remind you of things even more directly.
Also, I don't think I'd like this game with auto-target. It'd be slower and be... different.

Yeah, it makes no sense! Along with that, I think its stupid how everyone wants to ditch Yunita all the time. Its like, right after she joins the party, she leaves like five minutes later cuz she gets ditched.
Personally I've not had much problems with Auto Target so far, maybe it's 'cause I'm used to it from playing P3 FES through, but I've only had one or two "Argh!" moments and that's from my character's speed being too slow rather than auto-target being stupid.
Speed is based on weapons. Don't put a giant axe or hammer on your healer (knives are the fastest, I think).
