SO ABOUT THIS WIKILEAKS THING...WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Posts
Kevin Rudd's response was good to the whole situation. Something along the lines of American (and Australian) action in Iraq and Afghanistan directly causes tens of thousands of deaths, and Wikileaks actions potentially maybe possibly could cause someone to die makes it the worst thing in the world.
The New York Times had a fun article about how the world is laughing at America for thinking it's the pinnacle of democracy and free speech after scrambling. Putin had a few choice words. Hillary Clinton made a speech about the whole Google and China scandal last year that's really fun to read in the context of Wikileaks.
You know something is fucked up when you agree with Ron Paul, but this is one of those situations I guess.

author=KingArthurRobin hood was a theiving basturd.Thieving bastard he may be (and for the Sheriff of Nottingham, he is a bastard), he had the unanimous and unwavering support of the common people. He was one smashing bastard of a hero, I say.
The miss-spell was on purpose. Its a combo between bastard and turd.
author=tardisauthor=ldida1totally solid logic and supporting statement
And wiki leaks is good. Cause the guy is aussie.
Yep.
author=Radnenauthor=Feldschlacht IVIf it were real why is it not on wiki leaks? Or is it that it's impossible to find? WikiLeaks can prove things y'know, not harm them. If Wikileaks proved Obama's nation of birth, then it'd just increase his support and convert many people (including some republicans who ain't so stubborn). Likewise it could harm his reputation if otherwise.Barack's birth certificate, for example.we have a comedian, guys
Why believe in a falseness? What if there was a truth? This is the goal of WikiLeaks. Support it.
If it were real...why is it not on...wikileaks? Lol.
So wikileaks is the only trustworthy place to get information...because the media and wikileaks, itself, says so...right? Geezus.
This...is the failure that I was talking about earlier. The planet really is doomed. People sit around and *wait* for others to tell them what to know and what to be concerned about, instead of seeking the information themselves and trying to be educated. I thought Lemmings was a game for kids but I guess I was wrong...
wait wait wait wait, what the fuck??
are there people really arguing whether or not obama was born in the states? Really? holy fuck

It's better than saying "I can't deal emotionally with a black man in the white house."
Let's throw out our brains and forget the fact that the man attended school in the United States, which you can't do unless you have a BIRTH CERTIFICATE. He graduated from Columbia U and had a slew of jobs before he attended Harvard Law School and became the first black president of the Harvard Law Review...which was national news at the time to people that read. He graduated magna cum laude and did a shitload of good work before ever entering politics. To people that like to breathe paint fumes and have never stepped foot in any institution of higher learning, he somehow did ALL of that without being a U.S. citizen. Ha.
did you ever consider that he may have had some help from the reverse-racists? yeah. didn't think so. maybe it's YOU who should "check your facts" as they say.

At the risk of appearing racist by not jumping on the finger-wagging bandwagon, I would argue that those who are discontent with Obama as a president would be just as discontent with him even if "a black guy wasn't in the white house" as you stated. It is kind of disheartening to me that people still use this argument to maintain our President's infallibility. While it is racist to think negatively of someone because of their race, it is also racist to blindly defend them and give them kid gloves treatment because of their race. My girlfriend, who is a native of Peru, has more often been offended at the latter than the former, as she expects to be held to the same standard as anyone else, and not given special treatment because she is hispanic.
Disclaimers:
-No, I don't watch fox news (or any TV news really)
-No, I don't believe Obama's birth certificate is false or whatever
-No, I don't align myself with any specific political party
-No, I don't believe everything Obama does is bad, or any president for that matter
-No I wasn't paid off by Karl Rove or George Soros or any other conspiracy theorist favorite
-Yes, I am aware there are people who are actually real racists
-I'm sure there's more but you can never cover all the bases...
As a side note, I would like to point out that two tuxedo cats (though mine is more handsome) are debating politics and that is amusing to me. :)
I have people straight up tell me (and I'm a minority, mind you. Ballsy.), that a prime reason they dislike Obama is because he's black. Like, nothing more, nothing less. In my subjective experience, there are three (but not limited to three) things especially that make racist white Americans cringe with fear or disapproval; an intelligent black man, a black man with a white woman, and a black man in a position of power. Obama has two out of three, so some people are kinda pissed.
Am I saying that all white people are like this, that its innate, or even that all Obama detractors are doing so on account of race? Absolutely not! But fact is, there are still plenty of racist fucks out there walking around. A shitload of them who are wary of a president based on the color of his skin. I've even had people tell me 'Yeah, what he believes in and his political stances aren't bad, but he's black, so...'
It's easy to regard these people are irrelevant dumbfucks, until you realize they have exactly as much voting power as you and me. I'd dare to say that people who think like this are even still stastically relevant. It's pretty fucked up!

JerichoWe went through a Civil War that was more destructive for the United States than WW2 was, underwent massive social reforms to eliminate segregation and racism, re-evaluated the words that were written on the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal, and we are still going "ew there's a <race> guy"? I understand racism will never truly die, but the level of utter idiocy and retardation that you imply is completely beyond words.

narcodisWe still have people who cry out that we never went to the Moon. We still have people who doubt Darwin's Theory of Evolution. We still have people that believe the Earth is not round. People who do not believe President Obama was born in the US is just another page in the huge Book of Human Idiocy.

I am sorry you have experienced these things, Mog. I am the opposite of racist when it comes to black people. Some of my best friends, particularly some very talented musicians and performers I've worked with, have been black. I live in KCMO, which has a huge black population that people say "you should avoid" which is bullshit, because all the best BBQ and jazz clubs are in those parts of town. I can joke around, get sloppy, and act however I want around my black friends. Also, Beyonce and Halle Berry are hot.
As a white guy in KCMO, I am often the only white guy in the room. I love it, because I get all these funny looks until people realize I don't hate them for being black. If I was black and they were white, it would be more easily construed as racist, but I don't take it that way. See? It works both ways!
We will someday learn to embrace our fellow man, just going to take time. Humanity doesn't live in election cycles, it lives in generations, or longer.

These people do exist. just go on youtube! also I have lived in the south most of my life and I can say it's not as uncommon as you might think
But I do not believe obama to be infallible???(??) I'm not sure if you're implying that I "kid-handle" black people but i didn't like him when i voted for him, nor do i like him now. he's perfectly ripe for criticism, but not for the reasons most oft brought up.
also what is the *opposite* of a racist and why would you bring this up I don't think anyone was accusing you of anything

I dont like obama, and it has nothin to do with his colour.
praytell, why is it you don't like him? i'm almost willing to bet money i can disprove whatever misconception you have about him.
I hate Obama because his policies are wrong if not plain naked evil. His race (half-white and raised by white grandmother) is completely fucking irrelevant! Stop getting distracted by shiny things. All Obama's political power base comes from the white liberal elite. He is at best Bill Clinton in Blackface.
There is a line in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that says something along the lines of "The job of the president is not to wield power but to distraction attention away from it."
I'm seriously beginning to wonder just how true that line is.

One of my disclaimers was: -Yes, I am aware there are people who are actually real racists
I based my kid gloves statement on what I had to work with. All you've said about him is that certain people hate him only because he's black. I try not to make assumptions.
Reasons oft brought up - what reasons are these, and how often are they brought up? Hypothetical questions. I can tell you that none of the "demons" on the conservative right ever bring up Obama's blackness as an inherent problem. Not even Rush, Beck, Hannity, or whoever else people take way too seriously. They criticize the hell out of him, and never "because he's a black guy."
As far as your last point, I am aware no one is making accusations. I didn't say anything about accusations. I was painting a picture of part of my life here in KCMO to illustrate the point about racism that I've already made.
i didn't like him when i voted for him, nor do i like him now.May I ask why you voted for him, then? I'm not calling you out or anything, but it seems pretty hypocritical to vote for a person you clearly don't and never will like.
I hate Obama because his policies are wrongAgreed, I particularly hate his decisions regarding NASA and the US's human space program; specifically the extension of the ISS's service life combined with retirement of the space shuttles with no solid alternative/successor.
President Obama's not-so-grand performance with the NEW START treaty after getting a Nobel Peace Prize for his trouble is not that impressive, either.
