INTERNATIONAL CONTEST?

Can't be any worse than the rest of them

I actually had some ideas 'n shit thrown together for a game without text (but for different reasons). I might pull it out of mothball for this but it does use a music track with some English words in it (two, or eight, depending on the cut). Does that count or would I need to find another track?

@Great: I don't think that's a problem but let's wait what YDS has to say about this.
Honestly, I really think what we need right now is to form the core team behind the contest who will take care of making decisions otherwise everything will always remain at the state of a draft.
Once we have a team, members can suggest ideas and the core members behind the contest can decide what to implement in the contest. We basically need some sort of methodology now.
Who wants to be involved? As I've said, we're only two so far.
EDIT2: On second thought, I think it would be better without words in music as well, just to stick to the theme of the contest to the very end.

Wait - can this contest not have any dialogue in it?
I don't think I can do it then because mines was going to be very story-heavy. D:

I'll follow this contest from the shadow of the net °-° ....hidden in the dark, my eyes will look at it, look at you. Let's see what will happen.
*disappears in a whirpool of bits*
Whooosh!

What about things like item descriptions or names, or skill descriptions, or battles ("Bob attacks slime!") etc...?

I was about to say "don't make an RPG", but... what about saving?

@YDS:
Aw come on now, why not try to adapt your idea in a different way? You approach each game with such creativity, I don't see why this challenge would be any different. Anyway, it's your choice but I for one certainly would have liked to see what you would have come up with.
It's impossible to have text if you do something with other cultures. Not everyone speaks English (or is interested in speaking English). There's really no reason why a language should be chosen over another one. Besides, people who have bad English would find their project depreciated because their writing would suffer.
Yeah, among other things. Sounds and music can also be used to convey meaning (sad music...)
I mean, it wouldn't be fun if we brainstormed all the ways to do this before the contest. Part of the challenge is to convey meaning without text. There are loads of short films without a single word who still manage to convey meanings.
It doesn't have to be a typical RPG either. An adventure game would be fine in my book.
If YDS is leaving though, we're back to square one.
No. I didn't read that we can't have text in it. I can't participate. D:

Maybe if you could use single words. Like SWORD, RUN or CHOCOBO.
Make a list of about thirty English or game related words and allow people to choose words from that list.

I can always be a judge! I don't have to be a participant. If all else fails, I can just release an honorary entry. I've had a real, real habit of getting disqualified in every single contest I've enrolled in. T_T I can never follow directions.

no.
this is lame. that defeats the purpose of the contest! the games are supposed to be language-neutral, so that means no text at all

How about onomatopoeias? Those are rather self-explanatory regardless of the language.
Like POW! for the attack command, KAZAM! for the magic command, BOOM! for a fire spell, KABOOM! for a more powerful fire spell, you get my drift.
