CONSOLE WAR

But the main question is do you find yourself playing games on a specific system more than another?

It really doesn't matter. If I find myself playing more games on a certain system at the current time, it's because that system has recently released games that I wanted to play.

I have been playing my Xbox mostly for the past few months because I got it less than a year ago. But, I have more games for my Wii.

Mainly what Shinan said: there is no current console war because there isn't a domineering flame war going on. The sensible people have shut the fuck up and just gone back to playing their games.

My wife doesn't agree with me, but the future of games is portable systems.

I have both a psp and a ds (one of the old brick ones) and I must say I enjoy them immensely - actually even though I didn't get a psp until they were old old news (like, last year) I probably enjoy it more than my ds. However, I can tell you right now why the DS has sold way more than the PSP - portability. The PSP fails at being easily portable.

The first, and most important of these reasons is because the DS design allows it to shield the screen from everything in your pocket - the PSP looks delicate, and will become sratched up to hell in there. Also, the PSP attracts your finger oils like a motherfucker.

Second, the ds games are small and easy to store (also easy to lose - I'm sorry TWEWY, I'm sure those hotel maids will appreciate you ( ; _ ;) while the UMD games are thrice the size, and definately are not for pockets.

Thirdly, the power consumption of a psp is very high because of the greater 3d capabilities, and so it doesn't last as long out in the wild whereas a ds can chug along for quite a while (depending on the game.

Fourthly, a DS is silent, while a psp makes lots of whirring noises, to the point where sometimes I wonder if it's not going to break itself sometime (this doesn't bother me when I'm playing, but my wife can get annoyed if she's reading or something).

and lastly, Downtime battery consumption: Not once, out of the many times I've left my DS sitting there (not sleep'd) has the battery ever run out. I;ve left it alone for over a month sometimes, and never lost all battery. The PSP however, if left turned off WILL run out of battery, and you WILL have to put in the date and time... AGAIN.

as an aside, the ds has a little blinky light to tell you it's on sleep. The PSP just looks turned off.

I love you PSP, but you're not portable.
the best thing about portable gaming systems is that you can play them while you poop

My body has learned to try to poop whenever I pick up a portable gaming system
Yeah DS is pretty cool. I got a new DS lite for Christmas (even though my gray brick DS still works just fine, but I figured why not? and DSi would've been cool but the loss of the GBA slot was just too great) and the battery life is just insane, like 14-19 hours on lowest brightness setting? And after playing the original DS for 7 years and switching to this one? I can clearly see a difference in how the games look. Colors look way better.

This. That's where most of my play time for Final Fantasy 4 has come from. =D

I plan on getting a 3DS, as well. Not because I like teh new epic 3d-ness and stuff, but because the line-up of games is oustanding. I remember wanting, like, 10 games when I first looked at the list of games.
Nintendo will always win. They breed gamers like McDonnalds breeds customers. People will always buy toys for their kids.

Microsoft and Sony will never fail, because they can get money from other divisions until they do OK. Adults will always struggle with money or pirate video games.
My favorite handheld console:
The Pandora is a handheld game console designed to take advantage of existing open source software and to be a target for home-brew development.
I've only heard of it but if its true and I can actually make games work on this console as well as play anything older than the dream-cast ( inclusive ) It runs the other main stream consoles out.

What do you guys think about the up-coming PSP2 and Nintendo's 3ds?

>3ds has some sweet features including the famous 3d screen without the need for 3d glasses.

>PSP2 is rumored to be as powerful as the PS3.

IMO I'm not at all exited about either ( maybe a little for the 3ds ) for the simple reasons that,

The battery life to power such powerful devices will probably be maybe at best 2 hours or 1.

The price is going to be too high for me anyway. By the time I get it they will make PSP3 on Nintendo Virtual Reality XD9 lol. ( I got my PSP just 1 years ago and I'm pissed off its almost a thing of the past soon ).

I would just prefer something that plays all the old-school games on the go as well as my own home-brew and friends games ( like the Pandora ) when I can play modern games with great graphics and cinematic on a plasma H.D on my Xbox and have some fun than on any small screen hand-held anyway.

Otherwise I love PSP but might swap since PSP2 looks disappointing. I really don't care much for power and high specs over fun.

My Favorite Console is Xbox 360 and PS2, since this is relevant to the consoles that are currently used I'll talk about why I love Xbox 360:
PS3 is great, It has great specs, a variety of games and is generally more powerful than Xbox, Xbox IMO has my kind of games, the best action shooters on the market. I don't know about you guys but recently I'm an action game junkie ( as well as horror like Dead Space ) as well as action RPG's ( Mass Effect, need I say more? ) and PS3 again IMO lacks on this. I know someones gonna say you can just buy Xbox games on P.C but not PS3 games, let me set things out. Never in my entire life have I ever had "fun" playing a game with a keyboard and a smaller monitor, There's always some issue with all the P.C games I get and In that case I'll always prefer a huge plasma HD with a controller and a nice couch.

Hope we can respect each others opinions ^_^

not too excited about the 3DS's 300$ price tag
150$ i would gladly pay, but 300? that's a bit excessive for a gimmick handheld that nintento themselves is recommending you don't use the 3D feature on for more than 30 minutes at a time. apparently that shit will literally destroy your eyes.
Exactly why I'm only a little exited, I admit it would be interesting to play it and stuff and if it was cheaper or when it gets cheaper I might buy it to toy around with and be like "oh cool" for a while and destroy my eyes
^_^

Really who the hell plays a game for 30 minutes, that time flies by so fast you'd go cross-eyed before you realize its 45.
I agree Nintendo's 3ds is gimmicky, I'm not surprised but at least its better than a over-powered mini PS3 that most likely wont last as a hand-held since you'd need to play of charge almost every hour. I guess for a casual gamer its all good unless the price doesn't melt ( like PSP2's battery lol )

it has a 2d mode, but for a console that's selling itself on being 3 fucking Dee!!! dudeeee!!! that's still pretty lame.

that said, i don't give a flying crap about said 3D, so 2D mode is fine by me.
In that case why bother, just get a DS
STARWARS CONSOLE WARS!!!!

GOD DAMN! I almost creamed my pants, thats a sexy Wii. Playing a star-wars game on Wii or Move!!!
KILL ME!
Nintendo is over-cautious. They recommended you don't play the SNES for more than an hour at a time.

Also, no one said it was $300. Conversions from yen are a silly way to deduct things.

I only play games in short chunks. I do part of a mission, go off and do laundry or sweep or sort some stuff or whatever, go back in, etc. Games take me a long time to play; I play an hour in a single session, max. Usually more like fifteen-thirty minutes, even for computer games!

One long weekend I was hanging out with a friend while he played Persona 4 for seven hours straight. I have no idea how he did it. I guess I am just bad at being sedentary!

kentona: pooping while doing anything but pooping is gross :< I don't want FECAL JUICE on my stuff

read it on some site somewhere and was using said questionable information to be edgy and dickish B)

seriously though, it looks like a quality handheld and i will be getting one. there'd better be a decent rayman game for it.
I'm sorry for calling you silly.

I won't be getting one anymore because it's region locked, and I like to play English and Japanese games. It will be hard to resist Pilotwings Resort.
Actually, I thought Sony would be doing the 3D portable. I was surprised I heard Nintendo was trying to do it

Although TRYING is the key word here. Nothing like having a portable system you can't play for 30 minutes without destroying your eyes.

Another thing is that the 3DS Still uses DS looking graphic in 3D. I'd much rather have 360, or PS3 graphics on a portable then blocky 3D graphics on probably another square/rectangle shaped device. An Xbox portable is what we really need.
Frankly I'm more interested in the games than the 3D. I'll probably just turn it off, since I doubt anything is going to use it right anyways.

Portable Ocarina Of Time and the next Professor Layton sign the deal for me.
