I'm curious to know how many people own them. I don't have one myself, being a poor college student who already has a Netbook. I actually don't think I know anyone my age who does. However, I just finished developing a game for the iPad (it's in the process of getting approved - once it does I will be compelled to plug it).

So I was curious if anyone in the mid-teens to early-twenties owns one!

The second part of this all is that I just finished developing a game for the iPad along with a programmer. We made it in basically a week, it's inspired by Tetris but way more... quirky. And I am totally psyched that my name will be on a game that people might actually pay money for and I could GET some of that money! Dreams are becoming reality here, folks!

(I am spazzing a little bit at the moment about this :D )
I've touched an iPad, but that's about as far as I've gotten.

I hear that a slew of tablets are about to hit the market, now, with many of them running Android.

Congrats, though!
I'd own one if I didn't have to do real work on my laptops.
The i-pad is just an oversized i-pod touch and is a complete waste of money.
i definitely would get one just as a touchscreen gaming console, but it's hard for me to justify a purchase until it drops in price considerably (since that's the only thing i'd really use it for).

like the most inexpensive SKU is still $450. no way jonatan
*I'm not terribly impressed with netbooks, either.

I don't know, I've done all the work on WeaponBirth and 20XX on this tiny red netbook, all my schoolwork on here, and all the grading I do for regular work. I'm surprised this thing does HLSL. And the battery life remains strong which is more than I can say for Apple's L-Ion packs.

But then again it seems like I'm the only one who can type normally on the keyboard, everyone else who uses my netbook for something trips over the tiny keys often. There is something awesome about being in the middle of an effen desert and being able to work on my stuff, or on the train, or whatever. I got tired of lugging around my old HP. It starts at 1GB of RAM and 148GB of hard drive space along with a video card designed for video playback (the video driver in Linux doesn't seem to accelerate videos properly).

If you can get around the keyboard and have a fresh copy of Windows 7, a netbook wouldn't be a bad idea for you.

I would actually want an I-Pad if it was a standard computer, but it's totally not. I hope Microsoft steals the idea and makes a Windows 7 pad because then I could actually get work done with it and it would make drawing things easier (even though I do mostly pixel art).
bought a 32 gig itouch yesterday, pretty impressed by it

ipad doesn't fit in my pocket :(
Had one. Returned it a week later.

They're pretty and neat and cool, but honestly they aren't that functional when you have lots of computers around or you spend a lot of your time at/near a computer anyway.

It was nice to be able to watch Netflix or videos I converted on it, but I can do that on my laptops or TV - the apps and games might have been cool, but after forking over like $800 for the second tier, I didn't feel like spitting out more for the few interesting looking games.

Was a really pretty, sleek, and interesting toy, but that's all it was. I'd love to get another someday, but the price is just a bit too steep!

I agree that iPads are much too expensive for the functionality they provide. If I have 600$, I'm only 200 or 300$ away from a completely new desktop, which will give me much more for the dollar.

However, Netbooks are amazing. For 300-350$, you get a laptop that does everything but play intense games ( I can play WoW on my netbook with 25 fps in the laggiest areas, but it would be weak for raiding/PvP). You can take notes, write code, watch videos, etc. Granted, if you're like most people our age, it won't be enough for you - you would need a desktop to go along with it for higher-end programs (or just for comfortability). But if you're in college, it's so much nicer than dragging a huge heavy laptop everywhere.\

Congrats, though!

Thanks!

presently, the only real use i can see for the iPad is as a musical instrument. a lot of the app development going on where music's concerned is pretty damn great as far as i can see. keyboard legend Jordan Rudess has developed several different apps, all of which look totally awesome.
outside of that, i do not ever foresee myself having a need for a 600$ fancy designer tablet with no flash video support among numerous other problems. we won't even go into my thoughts on the (pure evil) company that makes it.

a lot of ipad music apps are shown off in this video. it's a song, so you really get to see them in action.

Now if only Rudess could invent the app that tells us who the new drummer is.
I'm posting this from my iPad right now. I bought the 3G version when it came out and I've been more than pleased with my purchase.
There's actually a few college kids around campus who use the iPad as a medium for their books. So, if you used it just for that, that could actually save you a ton of money (provided you do this method for more than 3 or more semesters), plus it's lightweight compared to like 6 books, PLUS it's an ipad, not just used for books.
I'll have an iPad as soon as you can use flash and Skype on it.

Actually no, I'll have a Kindle as soon as Japanese publishers get on board. I'll probably never have an iPad.
