AN IDEA FOR A COMMUNITY PROJECT
Posts
With all the talk of chain games going on and the Super RMN Bros 2 just ending, I was thinking about a RPG project like Super RMN Bros. Maybe this idea has already done.
The idea: We set a deadline for a month and we each make 2+ maps. The first map is a town with sub map interiors. The next map is a battle area like a tower, dungeon, cave, whatever. Maybe a region of a world map. Each person could make their own plot like save the princess, restore the sleeping X, defeat the evil Y. The maps and regions can be copied and pasted in.
Then like Super RMN Bros 2, a captain makes a world map and assembles the game. Starting with the easiest area and going up the totem pole. Whereas a chain game may have uneven levels of difficulty. Heck or give the player an airship from the start and have them roam around to the people's different areas.
RPGs are really just back to back quests with the main plot in the background. The plot could be generic party striving to save the world.
Thanks for reading.

As an overall plot? Zelda 2 had 6 crystals in 6 palaces. Dragon Quest 3 had 6 orbs. Final Fantasy had 4 elemental temples. Zelda's get the 9 fragments of triforce.
Then there's Dragon Quest. Beat the dragon lord.
Chances are, we wouldn't get 20 temples.

I've been mulling around on something like this myself. Set in a scifi future like Shadowrun where a group of mercenaries are tasked by the Regional Mining Network to enter mining complex and eventually the mines itself to find survivors and to ultimately collect this amazing find that the miners found before everything went dark.
Sounds like a good idea. I don't really like participating in these community events because of two reasons. One, I'll probably forget about it due to business. Two, I'll probably not meet the deadline even if I do remember.
And I suppose there are too many ideas for this to work. Dudesoft wants to do Zelda, while Ark wants to bump and grind... I mean make a sci-fi game.
Why not a zelda-esque sci-fi adventure?
Whoever spearheads this can do whatever. I only do RPG VX, but that doesn't mean there can't be many of these projects lead by different people.
I don't want anything, really. Just asking. I've already got the RMN Chain Game going, and one of the first things people started talking about was graphics.
I would be, in theory, up for this. Depending on what actually happens. I'm pretty much 2k3 exclusive.
I'm here if you need me :P

I tried starting something like this with Missiongarde. The biggest hurdle (and the point where it fell down) was creating a solid base from which to build the collaborative project on.
Whereas in something like Super RMN Bros, where the mechanics and rules are already set (Mario can only just X high, mushrooms make him big, goombas get squished when jumped on, etc...), with an RPG you have to have everything prebuilt before really kicking off the collaborative part of the project! You need to make classes, heroes, weapons, equipement, spells, etc etc...., so that everything is at least somewhat consistent. And then there's numberz (balancing)...
So someone has to shoulder that initial overhead and make a base/template for everyone to use.

I believe we should make an RMN Super smash bros. :D
we get characters our of games we have made...get the turned into platformers (somehow)
and have it so our charaters battle it out for number 1 :D
P.S i do know that has nothing to do on what your talking about..but i am tired so i will talk about irellivent things (URG cant spell)

No, it doesn't work.

Its only an idea, but someone might want to do this for 2k3 seemingly.
There were people who were upset the Chain Game wasn't made in XP or VX... why not use one of them? Then other people could join in too..
