One question, I find it really difficult to remember Kanji, is their an easy method to this or do I have to learn a bit of Chinese maybe. Its like always thrown in with hiragana and and katakana sometimes, is it possible to leave it out or is it a must to learn it?
Also when do I use godan verbs and Ichidan verbs or is each verb specifically ichidan or godan.

I'm doing just that, hiragana was easy, katakana a bit harder to remember, シ(shi) ツ(tsu) ン(n/m) ソ(so) where a bit tricky to set apart at first ( have to keep an eye out for the ascent " )
I'm still learning it though but was hoping that their was a way to use hiragana and katakana alone only it seems like its inevitable to learn Kanji.

Japanese isn't as hard as I imagined but its like an entire different language from English so it gets confusing trying to make sense of it being an English speaker. I've learned to approach as it is but it takes more patience than e.g learning a similar language like French or German ( Latin based languages ) I might try Chinese it looks very complex but I'm sure it will help learn Kanji fluently as well as might not be as hard as I imagine also >_<

I used to study japanese at high school and college, but I couldn't keep up with class in speaking and listening cause that was what I lacked most training in. Damn, I should have done more than just be sitting with the text books. Still try to keep my knowledge fresh at times with the books and media, but it has somewhat fallen the 2 years since I dropped off.

That's probably because you're a native, friend. I think there are some good ways to learn Kanji besides those mentioned above such as breaking kanji in radicals and the Heisig method.

Oh, just so you don't get confused, I'm a native Chinese, not a native Japanese :). While almost all Kanji are similar in character to Chinese, the pronunciations are completely different. There are also several Kanji that don't relate to Chinese at all. Though yeah, my native in Chinese definitely helps in learning Japanese :)
