Here is a WIP for the desert town I am working on. What do you think a real desert town might have in it that I can add? Does anyone have any clock towers or wind mills?

author=Neverm0re
Top hat and gas mask now available for all my sprites!
Considered giving his gas mask a monocle...still considering it :D
Gas mask? Miasma setting? Delicious.
@Demicrusaius
Those weird globe things on the roof should be more colored like the sandstone buildings.
If your game has at least flintlock firearms, I think the town would look nice with guards that have jezail rifles (some weird ornamental muskets that afghans used)

I agree with nightowl, the houses either need to be recolored to fit the domes or the domes should be recolored to fit the houses. Other than that, it looks really nice and well done. Do you have any camel sprites, because I think a camel merchant/stall would fit very nicely.

I don't think the different colored domes are a problem at all...most buildings with gold domes aren't colored gold...they're usually white.
Does anyone have any clock towers or wind mills?Umm I don't think those would fit in very nicely. Also the northernmost pond is missing a tile in the top-left corner. In speaking of the ponds, I like the details you've added, like the rocks at the bottom. Gives it some nice depth.
I was a little curious to see how the dome would look re-colored. I think that the gold sticks out a little too much, but it's a little bland when it's colored the same as the roof :0

@Kyrsty
The inn's roof is pretty obviously tiled (the side-view, I mean) but I like all of the foliage you've added :) Also, it's a little obvious you made Layer 1 entirely cobblestone and used an eraser on the higher layers to make the pathway. This might help; no stone should be cut in half. it looks better if a stone is entirely filled in with grass, or whole :D That'll make it look nice and mosaic-y
Thanks for doing that, Miracle. I didn't think it should be uniform, but I can see how it makes an improvement. I will replace them and mourn the loss of color. It's from a totally different game so I'd rather it blend in than stand out.
I still want some windmills, though. :-p
Also, camels are a great idea, but I only have teeny camel character sets. Does anyone have a somewhat realistically proportioned camel character set that spans two squares?
@Kyrsty - I like the colors of the town a lot. Very fairy tale. I love the odd pile of boxes in the left corner. Really adds depth.
As for the art, it's a great sketch. Nice shapes, just needs some detail. (like a face for Mr. Right)

@Miracle - I don't think it looks bland at all, I think it actually looks rather nice! If it stuck out any more, it might draw the eye a bit too much.
@Kyrsty - Like Miracle said, the path looks a bit too weirdly cut at the edges. Other than that, I feel the rocks in the middle of the road are a little strange. Because there's only two of them, it's really noticeable that they are exactly the same. Maybe you need some different details like missing cobbles or bits of grass growing through the path to make it seem more natural or down-trodden.

Ok guys, thanks! I see what you mean about the path. I might fix it up, but there are also other roads I'd have to edit if I did and doing so is a slippery slope! ;A;)b
I've recently gotten more into parallax mapping, so I revamped a sort of old map.
Whatcha guys think? :)

That's beautiful, Sana! :)
I would do parallax mapping, and I probably will on inner maps, but the fog script I'm using doesn't allow for parallax, so I'm SOL. Nice map though, I really like the sunbeams.
Those two trees look odd. They look flat compared to the other trees that you are using. Those sparkle orb things also look un-needed maybe? Maybe because the map is too bright. Otherwise, nice nice nice map!
author=Adon237I thought so as well on those smaller trees, although finding the right size for 'em is a little difficult..though I have plenty at my disposal~ B3

And, the floating orbs emanate off of the glowing flowers, lol sort of a mystical addition to the forest. :)
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

@Demi: A real desert town might have less sand and more stone platforms. Since sand is not very solid and tracks easily into buildings, many desert towns pave or cobble large portions of the ground, whereas a grasslands town would leave the grass. There would definitely be a stone path to the well. Some sort of temple, maybe? It would of course have most of the same buildings as any non-desert town; a city hall, some houses or apartments, an aqueduct, a police station or town guard office, a jail... but those things aren't normally included in RPG towns unless they are relevant to the plot. So, I dunno. You could add some cliffs inside the town, I guess.
@Kyrsty: The road is big and empty. I know being empty is kind of the whole point of roads, but still. Put a parked cart in the middle of the road, maybe? Instead of the stone pebbles, try making a few random stones be missing so you can see the grass underneath.

You're probably right about the sand and the platforms, I was just so dissatisfied with all (even the one in place) stone floors I found. I should darken it and try to pave more of the town.
I changed a lot though and here is the updated version. Still a WIP. Always love feedback and appreciate camels. ;-)

Looks much fuller now. Saloon was a good choice for a random building. The stone tile you're using on top of the wall is nice. If you make a recolored version of it you could use it as a ground tile.
I would change that fountain. It's graphical style is just too radically different from the rest of the tileset, and it also doesn't make sense to have a fountain in a ditch like that.
