"RUN UP TO SOMETHING, PRESS SPACE AND ATTACK" BATTLE SYSTEM

So in RMXP, I want to try making a battle system where the player can control the character on the map and attack enemies there.

For this, do I need to do coding myself, or can I manage with conditional statements for the basic system? If I need to do coding myself, can anyone direct me to any resources where I can go study up on RGSS language or see what a pre-made battle system looks like?

I've taken coding classes before in Java, so I'm not a complete stranger, but I'm not entirely sure how to get started with this. Thank you for your help. =)

You can look at my (vague, meandering, poorly-written) blogs to see how I have been coding things by chopping up similar script blocks that work. Basically entirely self-teaching over here so probably not that helpful :B

Blizz ABS script works well, theres alot of scripts you can use actaully..

Argh, I'd love to try it, but as a rule I don't download anything unless I paid for it/it's from a huge cooperation. Doesn't anyone have a text file or something similar? ._.

That seems like a weird rule. I mean, I can understand not really wanting to accidentally pirate software or download some kind of virus, but:
a) these scripts are freely made and distributed for people exactly like you
b) that script is so popular there's no way you'll get a virus if you are DLing it from a legit RM* site
c) you generally don't have to download the game's demo to get the script, usually it's listed in txt elsewhere, but if it's not, I'll try and extract it for you later.

Please forgive me, I have so many issues with computers that it's become absurd how much repair work I've had to do in the last few months...

Of course, if things get bad, I can just download it on a public library computer and extract the file from there. So criminal, I know.
