MID-YEAR MISAO VOTING REMINDER
Posts
...or at least it would've been. Is there a reason the Misao system has no voting categories right now? I was hoping to encourage people to take advantage of its all-year vote availability and make a few of my own (for once). So...what's up with it?
(I put this in announcements because it could become one)

I think they deactivated this system so that at the end of the year everybody votes as they did in the old system, because last year's results sucked so hard... well I liked the new system better. But I guess they are still thinking about a totally new system to avoid cheating.
I don't know why they would. I'm not surprised the all-year system didn't work well last year because...we didn't have any reminders like this one. And really, is there any way at all to prevent "cheating" on the Misaos? This is one of those situations where the system only works if everyone uses it.
Well, what we hope to do is implement a year-long nomination system and then use those nominations to build a round of voting (like old times!)
Baw because we gave the system only one chance. We didn't even have any reminders last year to encourage its use! Is it any wonder why the results came out like they did? Was it any worse than the other Misaos we've held before? I would've liked to see it given another shot, perhaps with just a few things done differently.
But no.
So baw.

we actually used it for 2 years (though the first year was abbreviated) and I did do reminders last year. >:|
They have been getting consistently worse every year.
And they are getting another shot, but with a few things done differently! So baw humbug!

I don't count a tenth of a year as a full year of implementation. And if you did make public reminders about it, I must've missed them! But whatever. We'll see if this year works out any better.
Remember to vote when it's actually possible, everyone! If you want to counteract the 25 or so people who will vote for the same game in every category, then you'd better get it together!

As long as one game doesn't sweep pretty much every freaking category, then cool.
I wish the categories were completely overhauled to something more specific and less important like: http://rpgmaker.net/misaos/2006/ It was pretty ghetto back then because people made up and voted for their own categories. Just have one Game of the Year award and the rest ones that not every game can get.
edit: also voting all year is dumb, how are people going to make up their mind on what was the best game this year when the year hasn't even ended? i thought the idea was cool at first but having this system in place set a realization within me: most people don't know what the vote button even does unless a reminder just happens to be floating around.
Well that new system had an "edit"-button.
I think the only bad thing about it was, that there wasn't some kind of list at the end of the year about all released gams.
And in the second year the categories failed. "Antiarctica" received a vote in the category "best demo" although I had released it as the full version.

The idea was that you could save and change your votes at any time, so that games released early in the year would not be forgotten in December when the event neared closing.
It could definitely use some refinement, but I don't think it was a bad system by any stretch. Not that the entire Misao legacy is all but a joke anyway.

Too bad people forgot the vote button even existed. The subscription feature did a better job at this (seriously I used that to help me remember what games I liked). There has to be a psychological intuitiveness to it to actually work, not just some vague secondary bookmark. "Not a bad system?" bro... it failed. lol what was it like in the middle of 2009... 100 votes csst? I really don't think a blinking siren at the top of RMN is going to solve that either.
...man fuck the misaos vacant sky ep 2 will probably jack them all or something.
Just because it failed doesn't mean it's a bad system. That just means it needs refining. You're right; it could be a lot more intuitive than it is (was). If I recall correctly, you couldn't do any actual voting from the page that listed your votes. You had to visit the game page of the game you wanted to vote for to select the categories you were voting it for.
I think the core idea is good, but the implementation and lack of intuitiveness were not. It's not a simple matter of "lol u fail".
