FAVORITE MEGAMAN GAME
Posts
I recently got into the megaman series, and I was wondering: "which game is the best?"
From seeing reviews and let's play's I can tell that many people dislike the X series, love megaman 2&3, and dislike megaman 7.

Also, who is your favorite robot master?

My love for Mega Man goes back to me as a child at the age of 5(ish).
As far back as I can remember, Mega Man 1 was the first video game I ever experienced, and since then my love for Mega Man has grown and also remained stagnant at the same time. The classic series (Mega Man 1 through 10) are and will always be my favorite. Everyone seems to like Mega Man 2 the most out of that one. Personally, I like them all equally, and yes, I'm being serious. Even Mega Man's 7 and 8.
I don't know why people dislike the X series. I loved the cooler looking characters and the darker story. I love the X series, as well, with X3 and X4 being my favorites.
As for robot masters. Couldn't pick a favorite as there are too many that I like. I suppose if I had to name a handful of the ones that rank in "top" category, I'd have to Magnet Man, Napalm Man, Freeze Man, Elec Man, Quick Man, and Splash Woman rank near the top.
I never got into the Battle Network series, even though two of my friends did and that was their biggest experience with Mega Man that I am aware off and it shames me.
The ZX and Starforce series I just about never touched because I never had the money to buy them, and there were others games that I wanted before the thought of buying those ever graced my mind.
The Legends series was short-lived for me. I played and beat the first one, but never played the second. At first, I hated it because it didn't follow the classic "Pick a stage, play through it, beat the boss, acquire weapon" formula, but it warmed up to me.
And that's just about it. Mega Man is my favorite franchise of all time.
EDIT: I love Mega Man so much, I was making a crossover fangame at one point.

Not a huge Megaman fan so don't have any real favourites. Played some SNES games (including Megaman Soccer which is a blast at the time) and Megaman Battle Network 3, so addictive but the later games proved to be the same old stuff so I stopped playing them. Haven't played any "new" Megaman games though.
Megaman ZX, X1, and Rockman no Constancy are the best Megaman games. You have all kinds of crazy maneuverability in ZX which is something the NES Megaman sorely lacked and the saber for when you wanted to kick some serious ass while not getting dragged down by the crappier level design of ZX Advent. Fuck the mission system in ZX though. X1 was a huge jump in what Megaman was about with better platforming, more intense levels, upgrades, and better boss design along with bringing a new feel of being the underdog into the series. Rockman no Constancy is pure distilled fun of the NES Megaman while also bringing the nostalgia with Megaman 2 while never taking it to romhack difficult levels like Deus Ex Machina did.
As for favorite boss, the fight with Prometheus and Pandora in ZX Advent where they finally attack you as a proper team is all kinds of badass. The team fight in ZX just wasn't half as cool since they just took turns.

I love all the Mega Man games except X7-Command Mission & the Starforce series.
Though if I had to pick favourites it'd be X1, Legends & BN3.
Favourite bosses?
From Classic, Woodman, I mean, why not? Also Duo from 8, he was a coo' mo' fo'.
From X, Colonel (X4), Storm Eagle (X1) & Dynamo (X5).
From Legends, Tron Bonne <3
From Zero, Weil, because Zero's final epic speech in that fight gave me a boner. Also Omega from Z3, because 'e was as epic as the original Zero.
In Battle Network? Serenade, Bass.EXE, Colonel.EXE.
In ZX, I liked fighting Albert, he was a hard mo' fo'.
I hated Starforce, and stopped playing the series after the first one, so, nothing notable there.
But yeah, as for the original question. It depends on how much you want a game to punish you. The Classic timeline series (Classic, X, Z, ZX, Legends) tend to be far more difficult than the Battle Network timeline games (BN, SF). Also, taste in character art and music, I personally prefer the style of X series to all the other games with it's '90s rock based soundtrack. In my opinion X1 is the best game in the classic timeline & BN3 is the best in the BN timeline.

Megaman.EXE is the only game I ever beat in the Mega Man verse. Though, I enjoyed Megaman X3. I hate the old megaman games.
Megaman 2, 3 and 5
Megaman X 1 & 4
AND ROCKMAN BATTLE N CHASE!!!!
Those ones hold memories for me ;_;

Megaman 2 and 6, though I lean more towards 6 as I've actually had some luck beating it many, many times in the past. I hear the games got easier as time went on and 6 was pretty pansy, but I think what originally sparked it for me was that neither me, my brother nor my cousin could beat Wind Man while using the Mega Buster. I remember the night we tried, all three of us multiple times, huddled up around our computer in the corner of my brother's room making suggestions on how to go about beating him. I believe this was 2001, however at my prime I was able to blow through the game without losing a life, taking minimal damage, and decided to start making the game harder for myself by fighting all robot masters with just the Mega Buster, charged or otherwise.
I enjoy the X series from what I played. I only played 1-4 so far. I have been wanting to try out legends even though i hear mixed reviews on it.
Oooooo...toughie.
Probably my top 5 fav's are:
1.) Mega Man X
2.) Mega Man 2
3.) Mega Man 8
4.) Mega Man X4
5.) Mega Man 7
Yeah...believe it or not, I really love MM8 and MM7! I don't really understand why all the hate for these two games, but I love them. I probably would prefer the X series over the classic, and I have not played any other Mega Man series other than these two.

I'm more a fan of the X serie. My favorite one is the X4 which I beat at least twice a year. Such a great game.
Ha, I avoided the first Mega Man game in the video rental store because of the horrendous coverart (no joke!).
The first one I played were Megaman 2 & 3, and they are still among my favorites. I also enjoyed MM4, 5 and 6. I went back to play MM1 but I didn't have as much fun.
Megaman X 1, 2 & 3 were also excellent.
The new Mega Man 9 on the WiiWare console was also very good. For me it was a great blend of nostalgia and challenge and new game mechanics (except the slide!! Where is my mega-slide maneuver?)
These are the only megaman games I've played. Of them all, I think that Megaman X1 was my favourite, followed very closely by MM3 and MM9.
EDIT:
also, the only megaman I have ever beaten was MM9. I got to the end boss in MM3 and MMX1 but couldn't beat them. :(

I suppose I shouldn't show you a video of how to kill the final boss in MM3 with a single hit? MM3 is weird, I think everything after the DocRobots (MM2 refights) is pretty much the denouement, Wily's stages are quick and most of the bosses are pushovers. Fakeout Wily can be tough and I don't think I ever figured out all of the boss weaknesses when I first beat the game but nothing was as tough as DocRobot Quickman.
(I'd also just like to say MM2 is a terrible game. Bitch'n music, looks nice, but the level design needs work and then there's Buebeam Trap. Every MM2 romhack makes Buebeam Trap easier and fairer than his original form which violates a law of nature or three)

I was like 12 at the time. Also, I recently purchased MM3 from the Wii VC and got stuck on Quickman :)
Quickman is in MM2, and my favorite of the original series is 3, beacause protoman is beast, favrite robot master? Kinda hard but i Llike Gemini Man and Jewel Man. Though not a robot master, Bass is pretty sweet too.
By far though my favorite mega man games are the Zero series. A lot more serious toned and story oriented.
Battle Network is awesome too, (except for the 5 remake on DS...) but I think serenade and bass are great bosses, all of the final bosses were push overs though -_-
Not really into the ZX series though

Quickman is also in MM3, as are all of the MM2 bosses as the DocRobots that show up when you beat the normal eight. It's the brickwall of the game because DocRobots are motherfuckers. They're huge, two in a level, and you have no idea what their weakness are.
phhhhhhhhhht I was about that age when I beat MM3. I just didn't have any Dragon Warrior games besides 1 so I played a lot of Megaman
